Did the doctors actually confirm you have ETD?
An ear nose and throat doctor can do that camera down the nose thing to look at your eustachian tubes. It’s quick and painless.
Because I have the opposite to ETD where mine are stuck open and it’s easily to be misdiagnosed but the camera thing...
I got my tinnitus in 2001.
Had my wisdom teeth out in 2005.
Strangely the days after the operation were the most quiet my tinnitus has ever been. Like 0.5/10 but it didn’t last and went back to normal.
Clonazepam is bad.
This thread gave me the idea to try it back in 2017.
I took it every day for a month which was too long and tapered off over another two months which was too long and still had bad withdrawals.
It didn’t help my tinnitus and when I see this thread pop up and see Erik’s face...
I haven't been to the dentist in ages but back in the day I used to wear earplugs and when they did that ultrasonic scaler thing it would sound so loud and intense because of the earplugs and the muffled effect inside my head.
Is it as bad with earmuffs?
Just always keep a pair of earplugs with you at all times.
And don’t feel shy about asking people to quiet down. Better to look silly maybe then suffer later.
Look for low profile ear muffs.
I have this one https://www.d2donline.com.au/gerber-passive-ear-muffs-black
I’ve been asked before if I’m listening to music not realising they are actually earmuffs so it’s a success.
I’ve had this humming problem.
Turned out it was because of my Eustachian tubes.
I have patulous Eustachian tube where it’s stuck open and gaining some weight helped and made it go away.
Get an ENT to do that camera down the nose thing to check your Eustachian tubes if there is a problem or...
Why don’t you find an example of a loud high pitched noise like on YouTube and play it your phone while waving it in front of your parents faces and refuse to turn it off so they know what it’s like.
Maybe you have patulous eustachian tube where it’s stuck open and now that you have this cold you're all clogged up in your head and that’s closed the tube?

@JohnAdams
This might be a strange question but how loud was the whole experience?
I have tinnitus and I don’t like loud noises (I don’t really have hyperacusis)
I wear earplugs when going out as I can’t stand noisy road and shopping malls etc..
So how noisy was the hotel you stayed at? The...
I read that Hitler had tinnitus during WW2 and that his doctor put leeches on his ear which helped his tinnitus.
I also found a study on leeches and tinnitus:
Is there like any condensed information on this that I can show my parents?
Usually they think any treatment for tinnitus is rubbish. They probably wouldn’t sit through a long video on this or read pages of info.
I have this bad habit of picking bits of skin off my lips. I usually do it with my fingers.
But sometimes when I use my mouth and teeth and not my fingers to bite or pick my lips.
I’m not sure what muscles are getting pulled in my neck or face when I’m doing that, but sometimes I get this...
