Tinnitus Spikes from Opening Soda Cans?

Two years. I didn't think it could. I have hyperacusis however. Different intensities in both ears. So I just figured because I have hyperacusis it could cause damage. I much rather not protect for things like a bottle pop but I'm very cautious.

Tinnitus Spikes from Opening Soda Cans?

Yea that's what I thought as well. This is probably the first soda can pop I was around in 2 years where I was uncovered. I wonder if 90 to 95 decibels is enough to cause damage however, I've been measuring a lot of "sounds" in the last two years with my dB meter (it's fun) and almost everything...

Tinnitus Spikes from Opening Soda Cans?

Something that I've noticed is not talked about on here (I searched the forums on here), is whether or not people are getting spikes/damage from opening soda cans or any type of carbonated drink cans for that matter. Ever since I got tinnitus and hyperacusis from Neomycin 2 years ago, I've...

Any Non-Ototoxic Athlete's Foot Treatments, Good for Tinnitus/Hyperacusis Sufferers?

Hey Guys and Gals, So it seems I've developed some minor Athlete's foot. Normally I'd run down to the local pharmacy and pick up some type of cream, spray or powder BUT seeing as my tinnitus and hyperacusis started after a course of NEOMYCIN, I have since become very very careful on what I put...

The Effects of Cigarette Smoking on Hyperacusis

So I recently started smoking again. Nothing major (2 or 3 cigarettes per week). Coincidentally, I've been noticing some elevation to my tinnitus pitch and "fullness" to one of my ears (I might have ETD or TTTS). Immediately after smoking, my fullness goes away and my tinnitus pitch reduces in...

    New Year Fireworks (Firecrackers)

Yesterday I was outside and someone set off an m80 at around 3600ft away or 1100 meters (.69 miles). I know exactly where it came from. I jumped right out of my pants to be honest. It sounded so loud... Yet my ears didn't feel assaulted, no rumble in the ears. I guess it helps to note that...

Moving and Changing Burning Ear Pain and Ears Feel Full — What's My Diagnosis?

I understand the sudden nature, but isn't a sound in the low 100 dB enough to hurt someone with moderate to severe hyperacusis? I might not be able to gauge if my tinnitus has spiked (I'll get to this in a second) but my right ear is definitely on its 5th day of being full/clogged and...

Moving and Changing Burning Ear Pain and Ears Feel Full — What's My Diagnosis?

Let’s talk about a recent exposure I had: I recently went on a trip and stayed at a hotel. The lobby of the hotel had a few arcade games, board games, a giant wooden versions of Connect 4 (Don’t ask). The only way to make it to my room was through the lobby. On my second night, as I was making...

Detrimental Effects of Road Trips on Tinnitus and Hyperacusis?

Muffs definitely makes driving worse. It does seem like they trap the sound. Assuming they are moderate strength plugs, you should be in a 50 to 60ish decibel environment while driving with them on. I don't see how this can still cause spikes.

Detrimental Effects of Road Trips on Tinnitus and Hyperacusis?

OK well this leads me to the following question. Every evening, I watch TV, play videos games, cook and converse for about 5 to 6 hours with my girlfriend, sometimes more. I've measured these activities and they are about 70 dB, sometimes 80 dB. These levels are just as high if not higher than...

Detrimental Effects of Road Trips on Tinnitus and Hyperacusis?

Understood. I guess I meant in terms of people that already have tinnitus and hyperacusis. I have pretty bad hyperacusis in one ear. I guess it is pretty severe in one ear only. No, I developed mild tinnitus and hyperacusis from Neomycin. Then slowly in the last 16 months, I've developed multiple more tones and worse hyperacusis. There was one other incident that greatly increased the hyperacusis in my right ear but other...

Possible Relation Between Hyperacusis and Eustachian Tube Dysfunction?

No issues while driving my car, I wear ear muffs everywhere else outside of my house. Not every sound bothers me, however there are plenty that do so I have to protect. It's almost as if I have selective hyperacusis.

Possible Relation Between Hyperacusis and Eustachian Tube Dysfunction?

It is worse in my right ear. The hyperacusis does not cause pain, does not have reactive tinnitus. It just sounds louder with Some sounds, not all. I'm not sure about the distortion but if it is what I think, then yes very slightly on some sounds. Other issues I forgot to mention: When I plug...

Chronic Ear Fullness from Sound Exposures Under 80 dB

The post you are referring to was measured with a phone dB meter. I purchased a professional one and it remeasured to 105 dB. ENT told me to take an antihistamine and get my jaw looked at by a dentist. I've had my hyperacusis measured at 60 dB. Hence why something in the 80s range "hurts" my ears.
