Participant Experience: Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS) Paired With Tones for Tinnitus

The reason I knew for the first 2 weeks we(30 of us)were either given either the sham therapy or the real one. After 2 weeks we were told if we got the sham treatment or not(I was given the sham therapy for only the first 2 weeks)then we all received the real therapy. I started my therapy in Feb...

Participant Experience: Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS) Paired With Tones for Tinnitus

I was not given the sham therapy. I was given the choice to leave the implants in so that maybe later something might change with the settings of the therapy that might be beneficial. I decided to leave the implants in for now.

Four Hours of Sleep in Last 48 Hours, I Need Some Reassurance

When my tinnitus first started as like most everyone else getting sleep was a big problem. Did some reading about what might help and read where the drug Amitriptyline might help. That did it. Small dose and it worked wonders.

Alcohol Is Not an Approved Treatment

When my tinnitus first started dr's did not want to give me anything to help my sleep. To this day I can't figure that one out. Turned to alcohol and it worked for a few weeks but your body keeps wanting more. Finally came across an article about the drug Amitriptyline and how it might help with...

    Need Some Advice on Sleep

A cheap mp3($25)player,$12 Sony earbuds(using these you will not even realize you are wearing them)and a masking sound that works for you at a low volume will do wonders. Sound pillow is a good idea also. Very good advice on this thread.

Antidepressants (SSRIs, SNRIs, MAOs, TCAs, TeCAs)

I tried Wellbutrin at first and it did not help me in any way. When I finally tried Amitriptyline it helped a great deal with my sleep.

Antidepressants (SSRIs, SNRIs, MAOs, TCAs, TeCAs)

I would have to say that people should avoid every drug there is because none of them are 100% safe.

Antidepressants (SSRIs, SNRIs, MAOs, TCAs, TeCAs)

When I was on Amitriptyline the dose I was on was 50mg. It worked at that dose so in my case there was no reason to increase it. It also did away with my daily headaches.
  20. L

Antidepressants (SSRIs, SNRIs, MAOs, TCAs, TeCAs)

I have tried both and Amitriptyline is what worked for me. When sleep was issue at first(Huge problem as we all know)it corrected it in a very short time. Always just needed a low dose with no side effects.

    Tinnitus and Insurance

Mine covered CT scans and MRI's. Those are the most costly by far. As far as maskers and hearing aids for me it would have been out of pocket. I think hearing aids for the majority are out of pocket but really don't know for sure.

I know 2 people that went the Neuromonics route and both it did not work. I did consider it many years ago but everything I read about it the results were very fuzzy. I would have done it if it would have had some positive reviews. I stuck with a $25 Mp3 player and the Moses/Lang masking CD...

    Best Non-Ototoxic Anxiety Meds?

It's funny but when my tinnitus first hit I was searching for answers and the first drug that said it might help tinnitus was Xanax. Never heard of it before. So I took the Xanax study to my doctor and he said he would never prescribe it. Much too dangerous he told me. Several months later I...

    Best Non-Ototoxic Anxiety Meds?

Just about every drug on the market is ototoxic. Have taken Xanax,Valium and Clonazepam for sleep. No side effects. What worked the best for sleep was Amitriptyline. You only need a low dose. Worked the first night I took the pill. Best advice is to take it 2 hours before bedtime.

Christian78, Yes the noise therapy(2.5 hours daily)contains tones that will stimulate your vagus nerve. Also I don't think guineapig gave up. Just had concerns over the surgery. This is what the daily therapy session looks like.

    I'm Losing My Battle...

Geo, My tinnitus got much worse in 2009. My tinnitus started in 2000. Up until 2009 I could mask my tinnitus with track #3 off the Moses/Lang Masking CD. A Good Night's Sleep Causes My Tinnitus to Rage

Has anyone tried a sound pillow at night? I have never tried one. What I use is an MP3 player with a soothing masking track. Volume is low and it helps with your sleep. Geo, Have you tried any type of masking? It's not a cure but by masking it just might help you to at least distract you from the daily noise torture that you are going through. Rather boring. The tones you listen to just sound like your typical hearing test tone. I'm lucky cause i'm retired so i'm pretty much free all day. I just sat and watched tv with the close captioning on.

No i'm not on any brain meds. Even if a person was on them I think the time frame they are looking back is what you have been on in the last 2 months. I will try to find the answer for you.
