Poll: Better and Worse Tinnitus Days, Do You Know the Phenomenon?

My most intense days are right after I've had a loud noise exposure. Very tough to get through and I'm always anxious that the sound won't return to baseline.

Music and Singing — Musicians Please Help!

I would say that you do need to be careful with loud sounds from here onwards, but don't let it completely stop you from doing what you love. I got tinnitus from clubbing at uni last year and it felt like my life was over because I didn't go clubbing any more. But I still went (and go) to...

The Best Advice I Ever Had re: Tinnitus...

They're definitely not a cure - agreed! But just thought I'd make aware for people that are in despair with their T that they aren't completely helpless and alone. They can seek treatment even if it's not the cure that we really want.

Music and Singing — Musicians Please Help!

Bill, your comment hardly qualifies as advice - it just simply would cause someone to have a lot of despair thinking that they now have to give up completely their hobbies and interests that mean a lot to them. I understand where you're coming from, but in my humble opinion you really need to...

The Best Advice I Ever Had re: Tinnitus...

Don't agree with this fully to be honest. The way you put it seems as if there's absolutely nothing that can be done for your T. Which isn't true. There's maskers, TRT, tinnitus-specific CBT, and a lot more treatment out there.

Noise-Induced Tinnitus: Nightclubs Are Too Loud!

Yeah I got them done! My ears feel much better now and the ringing has reduced a bit. In the end I went with water irrigation, which was done in a safe way by someone who had tinnitus herself. She knew what she was doing!

A List of Places Where You Could Be Exposed to Loud Noises. Places to Watch Out for.

Bill I believe you are too paranoid about your T! Some tinnitus-specific CBT might help as it seems as if you have a ton of anxiety around a potential spike. These sounds are likely to do no permanent damage to your ears, but instead the anxiety will no doubt be damaging your mental health!

A List of Places Where You Could Be Exposed to Loud Noises. Places to Watch Out for.

In my opinion the advice on this thread should not be listened to. You're setting yourself up to get severe hyperacusis where every single type of noise results in a spike in T.

I completely agree with you. This forum, while helpful at times, can be a serious breeding ground for anxiety and despair. Noise-Induced Tinnitus: Nightclubs Are Too Loud!

Will do! I’m actually going to go for manual removal. I had it done before and it was a bit painful, but I don’t trust microsuction or water irrigation due to their associated risks. Microsuction can damage hearing, and irrigation has been known to cause tinnitus

Noise-Induced Tinnitus: Nightclubs Are Too Loud!

Not great, to be quite honest. My T keeps getting louder! When I posted this almost a year ago, I had no idea what loud tinnitus really meant because right now my sound is far, far louder. Because the T has reached levels that are close to debilitating at times, I'm now taking proper steps to...

How I Cured My Tinnitus After Years of Constant Ringing in My Ears

Hi Bill, sorry for the late reply, my T has been manageable recently so haven’t returned to the site. When things are better, I feel like this website is too much of a reminder. How Loud Is 'It'? (Movie Theatre)

Hi all, I really want to go and see the new It movie this weekend at the movie theatre, but worried about the sound levels. I'm planning to wear 15 dB in-ear plugs to cut out some of the sound, but not too much so I can still hear the dialogue. Considering it's a horror film and not action I...

Is It Possible to Avoid Loud Places for a Lifetime?

Wow - that's pretty dark(!) You're definitely in the extreme minority when it comes to socialising. I'm an introvert through and through, yet I still enjoy my social interaction and social events, albeit not for extended periods of time as I get tired out. Though you definitely seem to be...

Is It Possible to Avoid Loud Places for a Lifetime?

You don't understand my point. Avoiding social events completely can leave you feeling alienated and lonely, regardless of the affect of loud places on the volume of your tinnitus.

Is It Possible to Avoid Loud Places for a Lifetime?

Hm, that's a difficult one. I think the sacrifice would be massive if you were to avoid all loud noise places for the rest of your life. Sometimes loud places are super difficult to avoid due to social demands - a wedding, a friend/family member's birthday, etc. And not going at all might weaken...

    Spike After Pub

Bill, your sort of posts here are so negative to the point that it'll scare people that are new to T to their wits' end. Should I Cancel My Trip Abroad?

Don't worry about flying. I've had a total of 11 flights this summer and for all the flights I've worn in-ear plugs for most of the flight. My T didn't spike at all, as the plugs did a good enough job of blocking out the engine sounds. With some protection the noise levels will be absolutely...

I just came across this article and it's really worried me. Poll: Did the Severity of Your Tinnitus Change Over Time?

Not true at all. For most people it does improve - there are so many people on here who have come and gone, simply because the noise has reduced/they've habituated so they don't feel the need to come back. There is always a chance it'll improve, no matter how bad it seems at the moment.

Uncertainty about the future. I'm only 20 years old and have my whole life to live, yet I have severe and intrusive T. I've had to change my lifestyle - no headphones, keep times spent in loud places to a minimum - alongside the fear that it'll keep getting even worse. My friends do...

How Would You Describe "Mild" Tinnitus?

Mine is what I'd call pretty severe (quite piercing, can hear it over pretty much everything), however I've managed to habituate to an extent as I can go hours without noticing it when I'm really engrossed in a task. Is This Reactive Tinnitus?

That's definitely reactive tinnitus - I have it too. Reactive tinnitus is a strange one because the T can spike from specific sounds at lower volumes, even if the volume isn't at all damaging your ears. This seems to be the case with you. It sounds like you're not subjecting yourself to very...

In a similar situation. I have loud noise-induced tinnitus yet I don't want to avoid concerts and cinemas for the rest of my life. The sound will be muffled for sure, but I want to reduce the risk of my T getting worse as much as I can. I think it varies depending on the person. As your T is quite new it's definitely good that you aren't listening via headphones. I think I will give it a go in a couple of months and pay extra close attention to any changes in my T to make sure there isn't an increase :)
