Tinnitus is considered chronic after 6 months. You should protect your ears from loud noises to increase the chances of your tinnitus fading or going away completely. Avoid noisy spaces and wear earplugs in potentially noisy places such as school.

I forgot about motorcycles. They are always so loud. I also hate it when people remove the muffler from their cars.

City traffic can be very noisy, especially in some cities. I wear earplugs while walking in the city to protect myself from a sudden loud noise like a siren or a car honking.

I never hear tinnitus in my dreams but that may be because I do not look for it. The few dreams I remember all always negative and crazy, so tinnitus is the last thing on my mind in my dreams.

Treatment for any disease usually begins with something that reduces it. Finding something that reduces tinnitus is a big deal because there has never been a treatment aimed at reducing/eliminating tinnitus before. It has all just been coping strategies.

I am glad you were able to experience silence, even for a short time. I miss laying my head down at night and hearing nothing. I am sure all of us here do.

I would recommend trying ear plugs. I use 16 decibel ear plugs and I have little to no problem understanding people, even in moderately noisy places. Maybe you could look into treatments for hyperacusis? Have you tried that? I hope they have something for it.

Have you tried clonidine? It is a prescription blood pressure pill that I take an extremely low dose of, it knocks me out for the night. It can make me really exhausted early in the day though.

You are really in the minority if you would not take a magic pill to cure their tinnitus. Almost everyone would.

Because avoiding loud noises means you have to make some lifestyle changes and people are very reluctant to change their lifestyles.

Do you have fluid behind your eardrum because that can cause ear pain and tinnitus. Steroids (like prednisone) help clear that up.

Yes, it is possible but I am not a doctor so I do not know for sure. I have known people with brain tumors that had it removed and survived, it is not a death sentence. Stay strong and do not lose hope.

The only way to know for sure if the brain tumor is causing the tinnitus would be to remove it/deal with it. I am very sorry you are going through this and I wish you the best. I hope you are able to cure your brain tumor and tinnitus.

If you really need to use headphones, you should keep the volume low. I listen to music with earbuds at 20-40 percent volume and I never notice a spike. My tinnitus is TMJ induced though.
