What Does Your Tinnitus Sound Like?

Yep, I have a tone in my left and right ears with it being way more pronounced in my left. The right has a more pronounced fuzz/hiss that sort of staggers like a morse code at times to go along with a tone. I find that if I press with my thumbs on my temples the hiss/fuzz dies down for a split...

Need Help for My Low Humming Sound

I get a weird bass like hum/vibration sound in my left ear when I get a bad cold. It sounds like someone in a car playing music with the bass turned up too much, rattling the windows. It goes away (or at least I don't notice it anymore) after my cold goes away. It drove me batty for a bit but...

Earplug Question: What Kind Would You Suggest?

Foam plugs are actually great for protection (assuming you get them in deep enough), and typically have NRR ratings of 30+. But, you can still have good protection (NRR 15) and less obvious plugs with Westone custom concert plugs. I got the clear version and they are barely noticeable at all.

    Is This Tinnitus?? Freaking Out!

I hope you take can find some relief in that we all have some sort of suffering too. Not that your is nothing, I certainly don't mean that, believe me. And i don't mean to say that any of us are happy that others are suffering. But, I think we all find comfort knowing others are out there...

    Is This Tinnitus?? Freaking Out!

You may shock yourself and find that you have it all the time, just to a lesser degree most of the time. I noticed mine in bed in a quiet room when lying in a certain position. I thought the noise was a light wind outside but I could stop it by pressing on my neck. Mine is loudest about 30...

Anyone Else with the Static Steam Hissing?

Lately the static type hissing in my right ear has been annoying me. I have a classic tonal tinnitus in both ears (more loud in the left), a "wind" noise in my left, and a static hiss that can sort of wind itself around and sometimes sounds chopped up like a morse code in my right ear. Just...

    Is This Tinnitus?? Freaking Out!

The wind in the ear is a type of pulsatile tinnitus, although it isn't always pulsing with your heartbeat. I have that in my left ear and can stop it by pressing on my neck. I only really notice it when I stand up after lying down or after running etc. For some reason, "the wind" never bothered...

Disco Club Invitation — Should I Go?

One of the benefits of getting older is that invites to disco clubs go way down. Seriously though, if you decide to go wear ear plugs. I suggest custom concert plugs by Westone. But no plugs? Nah, not worth it IMO.

    Sound Absorbing Cubicles Are Torture

I work in an office all alone but it doesn't bother me that much. I can always "tune in" to it if I want but I don't do that. My right ear sounds like a squealing fluorescent light with some baseline static thrown in. It's not LOUD but it's there and noticeable at all times (used to write it off as computers, lights, and water pipes before I realized it was in my head). My left is just a straight T tone with some...

    My Tinnitus Constantly Fluctuates/Changes Noises?

T is strange and I think most (if not all) sufferers would say that their T fluctuates and changes due to certain stimuli. If I come from outside and sit down in front of a computer my T is crazy (static/tone) but it calms down after a few minutes. Peaks and valleys, the key is not to be too...

Hunting, Shotgun and Rifle Noise, Is Dual Hearing Protection Enough?

No guarantees that's for sure but IMO good strong plugs (custom or foam inserted properly and deep) AND muffs with an NRR of at least 30 will protect you fine. But, the rub is that for hunting you need to hear stuff around you so most people use digital hearing protection which has an NRR of low...

If Hair Cells Were Damaged, Does That Mean Tinnitus Is Permanent?

Not if they can regrow hair cells, which is one of the main areas of research right now. Did you know that Chickens have hearing that heals itself? Yep. Chickens can go deaf and then naturally repair themselves (like a bruise or scrape) and hear again. It's all about the regeneration of hair...
