I'm Crumbling as Everything Is Suddenly SO Loud!

The thing that surprised me most about this thread were the words ‘Ed Sheeran’ and ‘Wonderful’ in the same sentence! ;) Seriously though, I’m sort of in the same boat, my T didn’t bother me for years, then I pushed my luck a bit in August and I’m having a spike or maybe a permanent increase (...

Ringing Ears After Fireworks in Japan

What beautiful fireworks! I’ve never seen any with those colours. You were very close though, I think maybe I would have put some ear defenders on too. I guess people don’t know about tinnitus and think their children will enjoy the fireworks? It’s not something you think about until you have it...

    Ringing in Ears Since Concert

That’s a positive sign that things are calming down. It probably will go down for you and fade away, I hope it does and even if it doesn’t go completely, then your brain adjusts to it after a while. Personally, I’d say stay off the headphones (at least while your ears are healing) and if you...

Ahhh okay, I honestly thought you meant you never used a vacuum cleaner...

    Ringing in Ears Since Concert

Hey, I’ve seen you and others mention this a few times, genuine question, how do you clean your house then? I have one of the quieter vacuum cleaners on the market and use foam plugs, because much as I would love any excuse not to clean up, I have to.....

    Ringing in Ears Since Concert

Hey Sorry this has happened but you need to rest your ears. It’ll take a while for them to heal up or get to a state where the tinnitus is lower. If you want to carry on going to gigs and playing music, you can but there are a fair few people here who will advise against that. At the end of...

Still Playing the Piano? Any Impact on Your Tinnitus?

Hey @Mister Muso Good for you! There are people here who would tell you to hide under the bed if the doorbell rings! Honestly, you have to balance being sensible with living and doing what you love. More often than not, the people who tell you to give up are not musicians and simply do not...

My Story: A Little Bit of Hope for Anyone New to Tinnitus

Hey @MisticRayn Thanks for replying. I wasn’t going to post again, as I find this place too unnecessarily negative for me - I’m not one for support groups / forums really but then I was notified of your reply. Please don’t be discouraged from doing what you love, carefully, if you still want...

My Story: A Little Bit of Hope for Anyone New to Tinnitus

I can’t seem to copy the link but they were from Amazon and if you search for hero ear plugs they were the Ultimate Softness series of ear plugs....

New Member with Noise Induced Hearing Loss, Tinnitus, and Diplacusis

I hope it settles for you and I’m sorry that it became severe so quickly. You seem to have a good outlook, mindfulness is something my counsellor was telling me would help with my un-tinnitus related depression, so far I’ve got as far as downloading the Smiling Mind app....so I should be more...

My Story: A Little Bit of Hope for Anyone New to Tinnitus

I got acs custom moulded ear plugs for motorbike riders, rather than musicians, as they seemed to offer a bit more protection at 27 db. If you’re in the UK, Specsavers or Boots can make them for you. I also use foam plugs of a 33db reduction for gigs. I mean, the thing is, mine has been a bit up...

My Story: A Little Bit of Hope for Anyone New to Tinnitus

Thank you not always but some days it can be heard over the TV, the shower etc...I just got used to it and carried on. Sometimes, I talk to it and say, ‘oh you’re doing that are you?’ ...and then I get on with things.

New Member with Noise Induced Hearing Loss, Tinnitus, and Diplacusis

This is nicely balanced. How long have you had tinnitus? I’m assuming not long, but I could be wrong. That’s sort of how I got back into things, I loved lots of acoustic stuff anyway and I mostly tested with those gigs...oh, apart from I went to see The National about a year later...I used foam...

I would reiterate most of this apart from you can go to the movies, gigs etc, if you choose to. It’s not a given. It’s that you have chosen not to do that, which, while understandable is a choice.

There are always exceptions but basically you need to give yourself time off to let your ears recover. There are plenty of musicians who carrying on gigging ( Look up Owen Brinley from the band Department M, read his very positive story) continuing to gig something you can think about at a later...

My Story: A Little Bit of Hope for Anyone New to Tinnitus

Hello, Firstly, there a lot of music references in here and so, if you’re someone who doesn’t advocate working with or being near music, you probably won’t like this thread much. Music is my passion and my entire personality it would seem. I become depressed without it, as I’ve suffered...
