Hearing Aids with Notch Therapy — Post Your Experience!

Hi Stanley, I’ve read your posts, and it seems you’ve been dealing with tinnitus for longer than most people on this forum. Artillery is no joke! 2003 was a long time ago, and your hearing may have worsened since then. When was the last time you had an audiogram or had your hearing aids...

Your inner ear issues are real, and it's true there's no cure for them. But based on your post history, they have led to a severe deterioration in mental health, and that can and will get better with time, if you accept treatment for it.

@2049v You are in a spiral of anxiety and depression right now and you need help to get out of it. Please believe me, I have thought my life was over several times because of tinnitus and hearing issues, but both times I got my life back. I'm currently back in a dark place, but it's not as scary...

BTW @2049v I saw that you are hesitant to try an antidepressant because it would be like admitting that this is a psychological issue. Please consider if the way you are feeling right now is worth proving a point. The tinnitus won't go away, but it could help with the anxiety that comes with it.

My hyperacusis got better but the tinnitus has just slowly gotten worse over time. I don't know how severe it is compared to others, but if I listen for it I can hear it in most situations, not just in quiet. I had ear pressure and fluttering three years ago with the loudness H, but it got...

I have not yet had new audiogram to see if that is because my high frequencies have deteriorated. Subjectively, I feel I have trouble understanding high pitched voices, especially with background noise. Considering going to get another audiogram soon.

I was in the normal range, 20 dB from 500-1k, 10 dB at 2k, 5-10 dB at 4k-8k. I think I have a steep drop after 12.5 kHz, but has not been professionally tested. Since I got hyperacusis three years ago, I've started to get some distortions on S sounds and have trouble hearing S sounds spoken by...

High Frequency (>4 kHz) Gaps in Hearing

Don't try this at home. Let the professionals play pure tones, or at least don't increase the volume at all when you can't hear. I didn't set it to max but I guess it was too loud anyway since my hearing above ~13 kHz is already toast. I've been in denial about this, but since using this tone...

My Tinnitus Is Getting Worse — Becoming Anxious and Sleep Deprived

Hi Rosa. I thought I would offer some perspective on headphones. Before I got tinnitus, I used earbuds every single day. They were always in my pocket, and I listened to something, be it podcasts or music, whenever I had the opportunity. Maybe I did it to forget about the world and to avoid...

I'm not an expert, but based on what I've read here on Tinnitus Talk, it seems like tinnitus is more commonly associated with sudden, dramatic changes in hearing function. Maybe because brain plasticity can't keep up? It also seems likely to me that very loud noise damages the cochlea in other...

I've been to two ENTs in my life, and now that I think about it, the first one commented on their teeny-tiny size as well. Now I know why using regular foam earplugs gave me impacted earwax.

    Will My Tinnitus Get Worse?

I think perhaps you misunderstood my comment. I don’t disagree that cycling could potentially cause an increase in tinnitus. I merely suggested that using earplugs might be worth trying if you experience worsening tinnitus after cycling, as wind noise could be the culprit. Best wishes to you.

    Will My Tinnitus Get Worse?

I respectfully disagree about bicycle riding and earplugs. Riding a bicycle is considered low-impact exercise and is recommended for people with hip, knee and ankle issues, unlike running. I ride a bicycle every day, and I fail to see how pedaling could possibly create more “vibrations” than...

    Now Visual Snow. Really?

Old thread, but I relate a lot. I realized I have visual snow in a similar way. Read a post about it on this forum, thought to myself: "Well, at least I only have problems with my ears." The next day I realized that the static I see over everything is not normal. I have no idea how long I've...

I don't know if it's useful advice for everyone on here, especially people with very severe tinnitus, but it definitely is for me. Thanks for the reminder. I'm also dealing with a spike that seems to be permanent, but maybe it's just because I'm back to monitoring my tinnitus after years of...

High Frequency (>4 kHz) Gaps in Hearing

My problems are with understanding speech, in noise especially but also in quiet conditions. I hope hearing aids will help me when I become completely unable to understand speech at 40 (y). I'm a bit doubtful about regenerative medicine, but of course it's nice to have hope. I don't think it's...

High Frequency (>4 kHz) Gaps in Hearing

Thanks for the reply. I read some of your posts, you seem to be in a lot of pain and I hope your situation improves. You have only two dips? I have more than I can count, so my ears must be pretty effed up. My audiogram from back then was also all in the 10-20 dB range, ouch. Somehow with all...

High Frequency (>4 kHz) Gaps in Hearing

I've been playing around with an online tone generator and realized some things about my hearing. Pretty sure I can't hear above 15.4 kHz (using high quality speakers at a safe volume), which seems pretty bad at 25 years old. When doing a frequency sweep from 1-8 kHz using speakers instead...

Feels Like Everything Is Falling Apart — How Can I Forgive Myself for Being So Stupid?

@Kingdawson Earplugs just make it more noticeable unfortunately, and it's there when I take them off too. But I realize that it is very mild compared to most people on here, so that gives me hope that I might learn to ignore it most of the time. @MikeB1996 While I wouldn't wish tinnitus upon...

@Kingdawson I really hope you're right, since I have a bit of experience with health anxiety, and I know that it can create and amplify symptoms to an unbelieveable degree. Hi everyone. I've been reading (mostly success stories) on this forum every day for the past month or so. I think I know what kind of answers to expect, but maybe it will have another effect knowing that it is directed at me personally. I'm currently 21 years old and was diagnosed with...
