I've tried genuinely everything. just about everything you listed. it hasn't worked for me, so I'm killing myself.

Well I'm actually killing myself this month. Sucks I've been pushed to this point but, it is what it is.

From 0 to Debilitating Tinnitus in 2 Months

Just curious what dose DXM were you taking? I have resorted to recreational use of it (robotripping), ~800mg is pretty much a dissociative bliss for me.

Cause of Tinnitus and Hyperacusis: Postviral Lesion

Tapering off currently, tinnitus is back, pitch perception normal, sound tolerance back to 0, distortions the same as they were pre Prednisone.
  7. N

Cause of Tinnitus and Hyperacusis: Postviral Lesion

Prednisone isn't helping anymore and neither are the various vasodilators.

Cause of Tinnitus and Hyperacusis: Postviral Lesion

Each time I take Prednisone the pitch shift madness starts again. Maybe you're right.

Cause of Tinnitus and Hyperacusis: Postviral Lesion

Dysacusis is still there. I literally don't care about the tinnitus at all. The hyperacusis, if it were moderate, I could survive. The loss of music due to dysacusis is why I'm here. I would trade it for the worst tinnitus in the world and believe me I've lived with freeway volume tinnitus for...

Cause of Tinnitus and Hyperacusis: Postviral Lesion

Tinnitus, hyperacusis, distortions etc were traded off for every single real sound being a tone lower. However, this has again corrected itself over the course of 24 hours, though my dysacusis (but weirdly not my tinnitus) is back.
  11. N

Cause of Tinnitus and Hyperacusis: Postviral Lesion

So I'm currently on a long course/taper of Prednisone at 60 mg and it has made me worse again. Bilateral diplacusis with every single sound being a full tone flatter than it should be. It has eliminated a substantial amount of tinnitus but this is just BAD. I am tapering off now and going low...

Cause of Tinnitus and Hyperacusis: Postviral Lesion

My right ear was tinnitus free today but I'm still ravaged by dysacusis/distortions. God. I would rather have excruciating tinnitus than any level of auditory distortions.
  13. N

Cause of Tinnitus and Hyperacusis: Postviral Lesion

Alright... The pitch issue corrected itself.
  14. N

Cause of Tinnitus and Hyperacusis: Postviral Lesion

I'm still on Prednisone, not yet even in the taper phase, and EVERYTHING HAS BEEN PITCHED DOWN A HALF STEP BILATERALLY. This can't be permanent, right?
  15. N

Cause of Tinnitus and Hyperacusis: Postviral Lesion

Yeah, it's a 3 week course with a long taper. Hopefully nothing to worry about.
  16. N

Cause of Tinnitus and Hyperacusis: Postviral Lesion

Yeah I'm on steroids right now. I currently have an increase in tinnitus but a reduction of sound distortions somewhat which is a trade that's totally worth it because I'm more devastated by my auditory distortions than any level of tinnitus by a long shot.
  17. N

Cause of Tinnitus and Hyperacusis: Postviral Lesion

I'm just going to hop on the Prednisone when I get it. I just simply don't care at this point. I will take antivirals too if I can convince my doctor to let me have them. But I've had enough of this suffering and I have all my affairs in order to die if I get worse.

This is the month im killing myself if i dont see improvement. I have my suicide kit ready for use and I have no regrets whatsoever.
  19. N

Cause of Tinnitus and Hyperacusis: Postviral Lesion

If I can't get on antiviral, I'll just take the Prednisone. Besides, I can't be made any more or less hopeless than I already am and I have had my suicide planned out since the very beginning, which I'll do upon worsening.
  20. N

Cause of Tinnitus and Hyperacusis: Postviral Lesion

Yeah... I'll probably compulsively jump at the steroids anyway now that I think about it.
  21. N

Cause of Tinnitus and Hyperacusis: Postviral Lesion

Well I'm going to push my GP to give me a viral / antibody test. If that comes back clear (it shouldn't, but let's say it does), then I'll just take Prednisone.

That's the gist of what I got. Also no, I don't have the report.

Cause of Tinnitus and Hyperacusis: Postviral Lesion

It was an inner ear MRI via a Tesla 3 scanner that was ordered by my neurotologist.

Cause of Tinnitus and Hyperacusis: Postviral Lesion

In early April I finally underwent an MRI of the inner ear to see what the cause of my debilitating ear problems are, because it obviously was not an acoustic trauma. And as luck would have it, the MRI showed that I have a very clearly inflamed postviral lesion. I am being put on Prednisone...

Endolymphatic Hydrops? Please Describe Your Tinnitus

Now alcohol makes me temporarily much worse off than better for a few hours, then back to baseline. Then whenever I take a hot bath, I am like 100% cured of all ear problems in sauna heat conditions, and then am much worse off with much lower frequency tinnitus and dysacusis for the next few...

Endolymphatic Hydrops? Please Describe Your Tinnitus

I think of @Jason C who had debilitating sound distortions for a year but he drank red wine a lot and I'm certainly sure it has something to do with his recovery. Same with another user on here.

Endolymphatic Hydrops? Please Describe Your Tinnitus

Damn. I tried a Pinot noir and it made me temporarily worse. But a blackberry wine? Literally an immediate cure. Why.

Endolymphatic Hydrops? Please Describe Your Tinnitus

Yeah I've been thinking this is a Stria Vascularis issue. Or viral. Still sucks that despite receiving the Cisplatin in 2003, other than the initial ototoxicity, I haven't had huge random chunks of hearing loss until December 2020 when I joined this site.

Endolymphatic Hydrops? Please Describe Your Tinnitus

Just did it again. A few glasses of red wine, also took Krill oil, Curcumin, Astaxanthin (a lot), Alpha-Lipoic Acid and L-Cartinine. Basically cured 100%. And I mean 100%, for hours. So... wtf? I listened to my favorite album of all time. First time in almost 5 months listening to it. Put on...

Endolymphatic Hydrops? Please Describe Your Tinnitus

I have noticed over extensive self experimentation that any type of red wine or blackberry wine will basically cure me 100% of my distortions, vertigo, noxacusis, even many tinnitus tones for a few hours outside the initial drunken-ness. It does not happen with any other type of alcohol...

How Can Benzo Fully Remove Tinnitus and Hyperacusis and Hearing Distortion for a Few Hours?

Well I was given 6 rounds of high dose Cisplatin (and other chemo agents like Doxorubicin) in 2003 resulting in significant hearing loss, not to mention I was 2 at the time, and seeing one of the top neuro-otologists in my area who exclusively works with long term cancer patients, he says it's...

How Can Benzo Fully Remove Tinnitus and Hyperacusis and Hearing Distortion for a Few Hours?

Yeah I realized noise exposure just doesn't do a thing to my condition. It's always drugs, pressure, or diet. Now I do have noise induced pains and such. But I never get permanent "setbacks".

How Can Benzo Fully Remove Tinnitus and Hyperacusis and Hearing Distortion for a Few Hours?

Benzos really help me but then a hot bath will reverse all my progress and my ears are back to full on sound distortions. Why do you think that is?
  41. N

How Can Benzo Fully Remove Tinnitus and Hyperacusis and Hearing Distortion for a Few Hours?

When you're on benzos, do you ever find that it reduces sound distortions for like 2 - 3 days well outside the half life of them until things slowly go back to baseline? Like I intently, extremely intently listen for my sound distortions, and they're not there until nearly a week later they're...

Hear Distortion When Masking Tinnitus? Try Chiptunes!

I can only keep my sanity by listening to blues. Or anything with 1 instrument.

How Can Benzo Fully Remove Tinnitus and Hyperacusis and Hearing Distortion for a Few Hours?

Would that even work considering it was throughout 2003 I was given Cisplatin?
  44. N

How Can Benzo Fully Remove Tinnitus and Hyperacusis and Hearing Distortion for a Few Hours?

Well his main theory is that it's literally just progressive Cisplatin damage. It NEVER leaves the cochlea and literally physically destroys the organ.
  45. N

How Can Benzo Fully Remove Tinnitus and Hyperacusis and Hearing Distortion for a Few Hours?

My neurotologist refuses to prescribe them until I get imaging done and the wait time is infinite.
  46. N

How Can Benzo Fully Remove Tinnitus and Hyperacusis and Hearing Distortion for a Few Hours?

Not really. Do you think you or I will ever be 100% cured of this distortion phenomena?

Bruuuuhhh how did we think of an almost identical drug cocktail.

No, I hear them at all times, even over a freeway extremely clearly, and it's just chaotic and atonal but again I don't care about that, of course it's torture and makes concentration fucking impossible and sleep nonexistent, but it is the hearing loss that has stolen music and general enjoyment...

Well guys. I feel like I've read everything there is to read on tinnitus and hyperacusis. It becomes quite repetitive after a while. 20+ tones, most of them reactive and low frequency and off the walls loud but I don't even care about any of that. It's the hearing loss why I'm suicidal. I'm supposed to get hydrops, viral infection, and otosclerosis ruled out, which in that case I'm actually killing myself. I don't get why...

    Suicidal

Cisplatin destroys many parts of the cochlea other than hair cell damage. It's also retained in the cochlea indefinitely, so progressive hearing loss is very commonly observed. I had a slight decline in hearing every year or so since the treatment and then a time bomb went off. A neurotologist...

    Suicidal

The neurotologist did order an MRI with contrast of the inner ear and a CT scan to check the bones to rule out possibilities of hydrops or viral infections or otosclerosis, three other things he suspected I *may* have, but he says even then they're very unlikely. Not sure what to hope for. If...

    Suicidal

My hearing problems has been determined to be the longterm effects of Cisplatin chemo I received in 2003. Progressive hearing loss as I age and will probably become cochlear implant candidate in a few years. Drugs like FX-322 will not reverse the effects of this. Yeah no thanks, I'm killing...
