Best and Worst Medicines for Migraines?

Hi all, I seem to be developing vestibular migraines with pollution as a trigger. Since I've been twice screwed over by ototoxic medications, I'm now pretty thoroughly paranoid about what I put into my body--especially with things designed to affect the brain... What are some well tolerated...

A Success Story About Myself to Encourage... Err... Myself

Hi all, This one might be odd because I am writing this recovery story more to reassure myself than anyone else--but if it can be of benefit to others, all the better. I am currently suffering from a relapse of tinnitus and gearing up for the long, hard struggle of [re-]habituating to it, and...

Lost My Girlfriend and My Job and Estranged from My Family in 72 Hours

I don't normally appeal to strangers for support, but at this point I don't know where else to turn. I didn't lose the job because of T (that's just good old-fashioned layoffs), but I did lose the love of my life and my relationship with my family because of T. I'm angry and alone and my T is...

There Are Really Two Kinds of "Ototoxic" Drugs

Hi all, It seems that when we talk about ototoxic drugs, we are saying "drugs that start/worsen tinnitus"...but it seems there are at least 2 big types within that... One type is drugs that are physically changing/damaging the cochlea and its little hair cells (be it permanent or temporary)...

Is There a Correlation Between Tinnitus Cause and Type of Sound/Pitch?

I'm wondering if people with a certain causes of T tend to have a certain kinds of sound (and pitch). For example, I believe that people with T due to Meniere's disease tend to have lower-frequency pitch? (no idea what type of sound they experience, whether it's a "eeeeee" or a "sshhhh" or...

The Importance of Going to a GOOD Hospital for Hearing Test

A few weeks ago I went to a local audiologist (in the bay area), not affiliated with any hospital, because it was close to my work. I got a hearing test that showed slight loss and they also told me my otoacoustic emissions test was really concerning, with super low response across the spectrum...

Tinnitus After 1 Month... Does It Ever Resolve After This?

I know they say "80% of tinnitus goes away in the 1st year"...however I imagine that's something like "79% goes away in the first 3 weeks, 1% goes away in the 1st year"... But seriously, who are these people whose T clearly isn't a short-term affliction that resolves itself quickly, but still...

Ototoxicity-Induced Tinnitus — The Worst Kind?

I've heard stories of recovery (or at least reduced volume) from people with noise trauma, infections, stress...but I don't think I've ever heard anyone getting better from ototoxic exposure. (I mean the real deal, from antibiotics and chemo, not stuff the goes away like asprin)... Can anyone...

Otoacoustic Emissions Tests Give Clues as to Cause?

I had an otoacoustic emissions test today. It showed I had dysfunctional/damaged/dead hair cells not concentrated in any frequency but spread out over all of them. This would logically be the sort of result one would expect from something caused systematically (like stress or otoxicity) as...

Does Sex Have an Effect on Your Tinnitus?

I have noticed that during and after sex my T is reduced to almost nil (on the 10 put scale I'd give it a 0.5). It comes back a few minutes or hours later but it's nice while it lasts. I'm curious what effects it has for you (and any diff by gender)

Poll: What Effect Does Alcohol Have on Your Tinnitus?

Just curious, so I thought I'd do a poll.

My First 1/10 Day! I Can Live with This!

Fairly new onset of tinnitus here, but today has been the first good day since my ears started ringing in October... Yesterday, I tried to get on with my life. I saw a psychiatrist to talk about my issues in life and agreeing to try CBT. I tried a new supplement (something choline?) but I...

For Those of You Whose Tinnitus Was Caused (or Spiked) by Ototoxicity

Hi everyone, Like you were (or are) I am very confused and distraught about what has happened to my peace and quiet and trying to learn and take comfort in the knowledge and experiences of others who are our not exactly willing partners in this journey. So for those whose tinnitus was either...

Hello T, and My Fellow T-Partiers!

Hi all, 30 year old male. Been lurking for the last few weeks, but I decided it's time to bite the bullet and join. :beeranimation: So I've always been a high-stress, high-anxiety person. From August 2015 to the end of September 2015 it got worse and worse. I had consistent sleep-maintenance...
