    Will Tinnitus Change My Personality?

I went from being a pretty relaxed happy person to being a pretty relaxed happy person who is struggling with a little depression, nothing serious, but I don't want it to become chronic. Happily, for me the things that make the T bearable are the same things that make life meaningful and fun...

Hyperacusis from Acoustic Trauma — Anyone?

I got T and H from an acoustic trauma, and my H got gradually better to the point where it was almost gone in 2 1/2 years. The worst of it passed within 6 months. I had quite a lot of very minor fluctuating pain and once that resolved I have been better able to ignore the whole thing.

The Benefits of Staying Away from Tinnitus Related Websites?

I am very grateful for this forum. I've found a lot of great ideas and supportive advice, found people whose struggles I identify with and who understand things about me that my closest friends and family cannot, and also discovered a lot of products and techniques not to bother trying based on...

Tinnitus Week 2018 / Day 1: What Techniques Do You Use to Manage Your Tinnitus?

My most effective technique is simply staying busy and nurturing interests in other things so that I can't dwell on it. When I have a spike due to noise exposure I use essential oils (helichrysum and juniper) to reduce swelling and pain.

Tinnitus Week 2018 / Day 2: How Do You Manage Your Sleep with Tinnitus?

Prior to the accident that caused my T + H (H now is much better) I slept only 4 hours a night. I sometimes had issues with insomnia, but generally required very little sleep. Now I sleep soundly 7 - 8 hours, and have no trouble drifting off. Life is generally more effortful now, and I think...

    Opinions on Chiropractors, Osteopaths, Acupuncture

Mine is noise induced and acupuncture never helped, but I have read and heard positive results when the T was caused by blow to the head. Good luck.

Sending you hugs, and best wishes for peace and comfort. You have been such a source of comfort and inspiration to so many of us here, and now I hope that some of that loving kindness makes it way back to you to help lift you up. Be well, dear lady.

Is This Hyperacusis or Something Else

Hi Karla, so sorry to hear you really have been struggling. I am not a doctor, but your symptoms sound very familiar to me, and I have T + H. I know it's really tough at the beginning of H, so just breathe. Since you posted awhile ago now I'm hoping you're feeling better. Your husband's on...

Essential Oils Seem to Help My Ear Pain

Hi Nonna, I googled essential oil otoxic and I didn't come up with anything. There are definitely some oils people shouldn't use, and they're highly potent so you should research before using any of them. I'm wondering what you found that your turned you off? A few times since I've started...

Did Your Tinnitus Reduce Along With Your Hyperacusis?

In a way...when the fluctuating H diminished my attention to the T reduced, as well. The T even seems a little less zingy.

    I'm Scared

I think you have had a spike, which is usually temporary and often a good way to assess how far you have come. This is all new to you and you might have a few more- it does take the ears a long time to heal and they're pretty mysterious. Make sure you talk with your doctors about your...

What Do You Hear? Can You Describe Your Tinnitus?

Two different swarms of locusts in one ear, with an intermittent tea kettle, and a higher cicada in my other ear, sometimes pulsing with exercise or extreme emotional upset. Sometimes a factory whistle, usually short lived, thank God.

Essential Oils Seem to Help My Ear Pain

One of the symptoms for me of T + H is perhaps a 20% reduction in my ability to focus. My Immortal Blend contains juniper, which helps provide focus (as does peppermint), so if you are having problems with focus I might add a drop or two of a focusing eo to my day depression blend if that's one...

    Essential Oil Therapy for Tinnitus?

I'm sorry I didn't see this thread before I started my own in the Hyperacusis Support Forum. I did a quick search before I started and still somehow missed your question, but yes, I have started using oils and I do believe they have helped me. I had a lot of minor pain which made it very hard...

I want to thank you for your questions, too, because because it helped me think some more things through, too. For example, your question about which brand? I'm less sure than ever now what to recommend, it's complicated, isn't it? There are many competitors and lots of marketing types...

Essential Oils Seem to Help My Ear Pain

Absolutely, jross. I should tell you that I am not an aromatherapist. just a new user who has done a little research. A quick google will give you tons of recipes. It is very easy to make substitutions by the way, because there are many essential oils that promote wellbeing. Here is what I'm...

Describe Your Hyperacusis / Noxacusis Symptoms

I had an accident aboard a tallship. The crewman yelled "fire in the hole" and I covered my ears, but when they were eventually able to get the cannon to light the explosion deafened me for an instant. My right ear cleared up right away, but I felt fullness and pressure in my left ear, the ear...

Essential Oils Seem to Help My Ear Pain

In my original post the section about the actual recipe and application, beginning with the words "To a ounce bottle add..." is the recipe that was given me by my friend, and those are not my words. I wish I had tried to make that more clear by using a different font, sorry. I read it to mean...

    CBT Pre-Meeting... WTF

Hi Scott, the director of training sounds like she needs a lot more training! I sorry you had to listen to her distorted and uninformed view of T. She's an ass. Hope you get back to baseline, or even better, soon. Your ENT is right, it certainly can happen and there is no reason to believe...

Has Going to the Doctor Ever Helped with Tinnitus?

I live a stone's throw away from an Eye and Ear Infirmary where people come from all over the world to receive the latest and greatest medical care, and I am sorry to tell you that no, I don't think that they helped me at all. I went within a few days of my trauma, perhaps it was too late to...

Essential Oils Seem to Help My Ear Pain

Some people are purist but I have a hodge podge: doTerra, Young Living, Simplers, Rocky Mountain oils, a few others, and make sure I read the label carefully to be sure it is 100% pure essential oil and preferably organic. I have a few cheaper Now brand oils and I use them more for fragrance...

Essential Oils Seem to Help My Ear Pain

I'm writing because I found something that seems to be helping my chronic ear pain, and has subsequently had a positive impact on my T + H. I had an acoustic trauma 8/30/14 and lost most of the hearing in my left ear, and developed T and H. My T is variable and in both ears, and my H was much...

    Chapter 4: Emotion and Reaction

Resist the urge to be compulsive about checking to see if it is there, or louder, or different...and try not to read constantly about it, if possible, because the goal (other than the possibility of spontaneous recovery, which is possible, the ear is very mysterious!) is to learn to ignore it...

    Do Noise-Cancelling Headphones Help?

The noise cancelling headphones are great for mowing the lawn or otherwise very noisy conditions, but not necessary for reading in the house. My guess is the reason someone might think they make things worse is because if you baby your ears too much it might intensify symptoms of hyperacusis...

Nervous About Having a Drink Again!

My T is noticeably louder while I'm drinking but always goes back to baseline. I believe it is the worry and the headache that has you're reacting to right now, not the alcohol. Hope you're feeling better.

A Question to the Community: Could My Tinnitus Have Been Avoidable?

You might be familiar with "stages of grief" theory, which always includes a stage of anger on the path toward acceptance. Since we are all grieving - silence, if nothing else, I think it's only natural that we feel some anger. In the first few months I was angry at myself for not getting to...

New Here, With This Tinnitus & Hyperacusis!

Hi Blake, I'm so sorry for what's happened. I can relate to your symptoms, though my ears seemed fine until a cannon shot near me, and maybe an ear problem in my family tree so my condition progressed very differently than yours. I see your tinnitus started in June 2015, was that when you...

It Took 18 Months — Now I'm Mad.

Hi there. On Labor Day at the end of the summer in 2014 my husband and I were ticketed guests in a Schooner Race aboard a reproduction tall ship. It was a gorgeous day. We're avid sailors, and experienced racers, but it hardly mattered that the crew aboard this family-run business didn't seem...
