45 mg of Mirtazapine Doesn't Help Me Sleep — Need Advice for My Disabling Tinnitus

I don’t want to get into a competition for “who has the worst case,” but trust me, you definitely do not have the worst case. Mirtazapine is really effective for a while, but then tolerance kicks in. Having constant, quiet background sound is essential. I’m actually on five medications plus...

Tinnitus from Being in Artillery in the Army!

Fifteen years ago, I was in really bad shape. I went on the ATA website and called every contact support person I could find. Twenty years ago, I went weeks with no sleep, eventually becoming psychotic with hallucinations—the full ordeal. My life has been pretty rough, balancing a full-time job...

Chronic Prostatitis: How to Treat It When You Have Tinnitus?

This might sound unorthodox, but my doctor prescribed Prometrium, 200 mg. It works by feeding back on the pituitary gland, which helps reduce prostate size. At least now, I can pee normally. My serum testosterone is at the lower end of normal, which I’m okay with. The urologist did say it’s not...

Am I More Susceptible to Further Hearing Damage Compared to Someone without Hearing Loss?

Yes, sleeping with hearing protection can be tempting. I discussed this with an audiologist in Holland, Michigan, who’s consistently voted the best in his field. Here’s my experience: years ago, my hearing was deteriorating, and I thought protecting it was the right thing to do. When I asked an...

How to Stop the Progression of Mild Hyperacusis?

There are different dB scales: dBA is commonly used in industry, but dBC is what you really need to pay attention to, along with dBZ. Lower frequencies carry high energy, so even though they don’t sound loud, they can be very damaging to your hearing. If you can feel the low frequency, it’s...

Am I More Susceptible to Further Hearing Damage Compared to Someone without Hearing Loss?

From my experience, tinnitus spikes become more frequent, debilitating, and prolonged over time. Many well-meaning people, probably correct in their own situations, advise me to use ear protection only when necessary. There’s a top audiologist in Holland, Michigan, who agrees with me: the level...

    Marijuana / Cannabis and Tinnitus

I’m taking CBG, CBD, and CBDV with good results. If you’re in the USA, you can look these up to check their legality and availability. Three weeks ago, I had a severe spike and took Clonazepam to help suppress it. I also started using isolate dissolved in propylene glycol. To use it, dilute...

    Clonazepam (Klonopin, Rivotril)

I’m currently on Clonazepam 0.5 mg, and my plan is to taper it slowly: first to 0.375 mg, then 0.25 mg, and finally to 0.125 mg. I hope to do this over about two weeks. Ten days ago, I had a spike and temporarily increased the dose to 2.0 mg, so getting back down to 0.5 mg feels like progress...

Doctors are correct to be cautious with Clonazepam; the problem is, no one fully understands tinnitus or is eager to treat it. 45 mg of Mirtazapine Doesn't Help Me Sleep — Need Advice for My Disabling Tinnitus

I’m just reading this thread because I take 60 mg of Mirtazapine. Seroquel works better at a low dose, such as 50-75 mg. Once, when I was very desperate, I took around 800 mg, which gave me a terrifying movement disorder where my tongue was pulling back into my throat. I know a retired psych...

    Clonazepam (Klonopin, Rivotril)

Hi all, Clonazepam is basically a sedative, which is why I was told to take it in the evening. My job requires a very high degree of mental acuity, and as I get older, age takes its toll. Back in 1992, I was literally getting zero sleep. It was ridiculous—you can’t function without sleep. I...

Here is the revised version without hyphens: @Nick47 and anyone else reading, I take all my meds around 7:30 PM. The purpose is mainly to suppress my symptoms and help initiate sleep. I wasn't aware that Carbamazepine induces liver enzymes that metabolize Mirtazapine. This might explain why...

How to Stay Positive with Severe Reactive Tinnitus?

About 35 years ago, I started noticing tinnitus, and it really freaked me out since I already knew there was no cure except for white noise. To “prevent it from getting worse,” I began wearing hearing protection, eventually all the time—24/7. This led to disastrous hyperacusis and worsening...
