Standing at the gates of tinnitus

Hi Guys, hope you all had a good Christmas. I don't post as often as I used to, because T can fluctuate so much from one day to the next. I'm trying to keep my posts 2-4 weeks apart to make sure that what I'm saying is correct. I've had T for 5 months now, with the 1st 3 months being...

Standing at the gates of tinnitus

Thanks mate, It's been hard at times, but you and the forum have been a great comfort. The more you learn the more you know how to cope. I always try and stay busy, plus I do a lot of what I enjoy. Having said said that, I got up a 1am to watch the meteor shower, but with the moon over 80%...

Standing at the gates of tinnitus

The early days were the worst for me, but it has become a lot better as time has passed. The volume level was around a 10 for the 1st 2 months, down to a 2 or 3 after 5 months. The spikes started getting longer apart as well. I do drink a lot of camomile tea, try and keep on a low salt diet...

Standing at the gates of tinnitus

Hi Guys, It's been a while since my last post, so I thought I would give you an update. My ENT has diagnosed me with cochlear hydrops, which is a form of Meniere's disease. My hearing fluctuates from almost completely deaf (for a few hours) to perfect hearing. My other Doctor, the amazing Dr...

Standing at the gates of tinnitus

Hi guys, Just thought I would share this with the group. I had my NHS hearing aid fitted today and my T has gone. Early days I know, so I'm not getting carried away, but it's so nice to hear silence again. My T was low today anyway and so I will monitor it over the next month and give you...

Standing at the gates of tinnitus

Hi Di, Had a real bad spike last weekend followed by 5 days of heaven. Today I was sitting in a quite room and it literally disappeared. Unfortunately as soon as it did, it started to get louder and louder and I'm now having a spike. What a crazy condition this is. It's not bothering me much...

    Tinnitus and Mobile Phone Use

Not sure. I'm not saying they help, but Tinnitus has been around a lot longer than mobile phones. Also deaf people have T as well, so as I say I'm really not sure.

Standing at the gates of tinnitus

Just thought I would share this with the group. After a weekend of record highs with the T, I've woke up with almost record lows. Hope that gives other people confidence of when they are having a rough time. I know I have learnt a lot from it and will carry that with me, the next time I have a...

Standing at the gates of tinnitus

Hi Guys, Just to let you know the spike has lowered again. My ears feel really sensitive at the moment, but a least the T is back to a reasonable level. I must admit that spike really knocked my confidence as it was a bad one and I thought I was coping really well. Clear skies tonight so I'm...

Standing at the gates of tinnitus

Hi Simon, Yes the spike has started to lower in volume, but keeps on fluctuating. I purchased the Peltor ear defenders, but they only arrived on Friday and so I have not used them at work yet. I worked on Thursday in a noisy in environment (chop saws, Kangos and hammers going) and the spike...

Hi guys hope you are all well. I realise I already have an "Introduce yourself post" going, but I felt the need to start a fresh one. As some of you may know, I've had T for 3 months and have dealt with it fairly well. I have got used to the patterns and my anxiety levels have dropped down a...

New Sufferer and I Am a Physician!

Hi and welcome to the forum. I'm fairly new as well (3 months). You will find some amazing people on here and some great advice. The first month was the hardest for me, because of the spikes and the unknown, but when you get used to the pattern, it becomes easier. The fear of T reduces and you...

What a brilliant reply. I've had T for three months and perhaps I'm lucky, but i don't let it get me down. We are currently on holiday in Wales and have just purchased a motorhome. I'm so looking forward to touring in it next year. Live life as you did before. You may make a few changes, but...

Standing at the gates of tinnitus

Hi, good to know another Astro nut. Yeah, I've been battling with the ear defender scenario myself. It's not necessarily that my T feels louder (although it does a bit) but my ears feel full after removing them. It's early days for me (8 weeks in) and so I'm just monitoring it on a daily...

Yes mate of course. well I never discovered this site until about 4 weeks ago and so at the time I felt completely alone and scared. I was running backwards and forwards to the doctors and was basically panic stricken. My T was very loud, hearing super sensitive, a fullness in my ears and I...

Hi Guys, a few weeks ago, a couple of people asked if I could share some Astro pictures. Well, I've been working on this one for a few weeks. It's the Veil Nebula In Cygnus. It's the remnants of a super Nova (a star that exploded thousands of years ago) and is now just a large ionised dust...

Steve's bang on. I had that conversation with my wife and the mother-in-law (although the mother-in-law still thinks my ears are sensitive. Hello, I'm Andrew

It's called a spike Andrew. My first 3-4 weeks of T, the spikes were the worst. For me they lasted anything from 12 to 24 hours, sometimes slightly longer. My ear felt blocked and I had super sensitivity to sound. The volume you are going through now won't last for the rest of your life, it will...

Andrew I know it's a long post, but read my post "Standing at the gates of T" and go back over my timeline. You will see I went through the same thing. No probs mate, the book is called "Living with Tinnitus" by DR Lawrence McKenna & Dr David Baguley. It's about £6 on Amazon and around £7 on I-tunes. Same with me, but only in the early days. Use some cotton wool or ear plugs. I know exactly what you are going through as our conditions are identical. It will get better mate. Standing at the gates of tinnitus

My ears felt blocked around 9 weeks ago, but the T only arrived around 7 weeks ago. The 1st fortnight was the worst. Then its got slightly easier as time has gone on. Don't get me wrong I still have some crappy days, but on the whole its a lot better and so is my understanding and dealing with it.

Standing at the gates of tinnitus

In the book I'm reading, someone carried out an experiment with non T sufferers. The were put in a sound proof isolation booth and something like 94% of them heard T. We as humans are meant to hear noise. As long as your volume is set to just slightly below your T, you will be fine. Last week at...

Yes mate, the blocked ears is a funny one. When I 1st got T I was trying to eliminate all sorts of stuff. Like certain foods, drinks, tabbaco, dairy etc... Hello, I'm Andrew

Hi Andrew and welcome to the fourm. I've had louder T for 7 weeks now. Blocked ears and sensitive hearing is a common combination, however, the sensitively in my hearing has reduced along with the blocked feeling over the past fortnight. My T has also stabilised and the distance between spikes...

Hi Guys, well It's been a busy week. As I posted a few days ago, on Wednesday I went to see Dr David Baguley who's a clinical scientist and head of Audiology at Addenbrookes hospital in Cambridge. I was hoping to get a lot out of this guy, as I'd heard good things and boy did he deliver. As...

My ENT Dr has made me an appointment to see Dr Baguley. According to him, no one in the UK understands T as well as DR B. My appointment is on Wednesday at 5pm, so I will keep you all posted. Hi LadyDi, Thanks for that. I know a musician and will text him today. My T was quite good, until around 4am this morning. I had to wake up then anyway to pack the scope and equipment away. But as I type this it's very loud. Hopefully it will settle down soon. Caught myself recently clenching...
