    Cold and Tinnitus?

The ringing should go away after the congestion is cleared and any inflammation that you have is gone. Hang in there and make sure that you get the treatment you need.

Alright Guys, Not Sure What to Do, Need Some Advice (Ear Irrigation vs Suction and Questions)

If your ear wax is hardened on the eardrum, you have to be very careful. See an ENT and ask them what they would prescribe to soften it first. A lot of people on the forum recommend olive oil drops to soften their ear wax; haven't used it personally but I would if I need to do so. Best to get...

New to This. Can an External Ear Infection Cause Tinnitus?

@glynis My tinnitus started with an external ear infection that caused eardrum and ear canal inflammation. It's been more than a month maybe 4-5 weeks since it's fully healed, but the tinnitus remains. What are the chances of the ringing going away?

    Tinnitus and Tooth Abscess

Thanks, @Foncky. The fact that the implant process is so tediously long and painful makes me nervous. I know it will all be good at the end. The tinnitus is probably something I am worried about the most. Glad to know you had no problems after the implant.

    Tinnitus and Tooth Abscess

Hi, everyone. Just wanted to see if anyone had thoughts on this. My tinnitus started with an external ear infection causing eardrum inflammation. Per ENT, ears are fully healed but the tinnitus remains. Now I learnt that I have a bad abscessed tooth on the upper jaw close to the ear with the...

Is Tinnitus the Last Symptom to Leave After an Ear Infection?

Thanks for sharing. My tinnitus was horribly loud at first. Thankfully, it never went back to that level. Either that or my tolerance level was better. Keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for a recovery. Have unavoidable dental surgery coming up and praying that it doesn't get worse.

Is Tinnitus the Last Symptom to Leave After an Ear Infection?

Thanks @hopeforme. I have been in this a little over two months myself. It has not been a steady decrease for me, but it appears to be getting better. A few weeks back, it was made worse by two separate incidents of loud noises. During these two months, I also suffered from cold two times...

    Neomycin Drop Induced Tinnitus?

My ENT told me that ears looked fully healed from the infection about a month ago. However, I continued to have sensitivity to loud sounds and fullness in the ear. Those symptoms have reduced after Medrol about a week ago; hoping it stays that way. Only the ringing remains. :-(

Is Tinnitus the Last Symptom to Leave After an Ear Infection?

Hi, everyone. Is tinnitus generally the last symptom to subside after an ear infection or eardrum inflammation? I was wondering if you know anyone whose tinnitus went away after the physical eardrum had healed. If yes, how much time did it take for their tinnitus to go away? Thank you.

Will Be Going on Multiple Flights for Med School Interviews

One of my friends had to retake her MCAT and send her apps at the last minute. The admissions process can add its own stress. She did well and has now completed med school. I personally haven't traveled by plane since I got tinnitus about 2 months back, and I am just as scared about it. I...

    Neomycin Drop Induced Tinnitus?

@Samantha R My eardrum was inflammed due to an external ear infection, and it has completely healed. Been several weeks now. Do you know if your sister's tinnitus was the last symptom to go after the eardrum healed completely? If yes, do you know after how much time after the eardrum...

Any insights anyone? Has anyone had a tooth implant while they had tinnitus?

    Tinnitus and Tooth Abscess

I know. I am going to get the tooth extracted. Since there is significant bone loss, there will be a bone graft. I figured the health risks far outweigh the worry regarding worsening of tinnitus. Plan to do an implant a few months later.

    Tinnitus and Tooth Abscess

Has anyone experienced a relationship between tinnitus and a tooth abscess. Turns out I have a pretty bad infection in a tooth close to my ear, and doctor has suggested an extraction as it cannot be saved. Do you all think removing the infected tooth will help?

Tinnitus Due to External Fungal Ear Infection

Hi, everyone. My ear infection is long gone. It was an external ear infection that left my ear canal and ear drum inflammed. That's long healed now for 3-4 weeks, but the ringing and sensitivity to sound continues. It's been almost 2 months now. Never listened to loud music or took...

Steroids: Prednisone / Dexamethasone / Others (Oral and Intratympanic Injections)

Hi, everyone. I was wondering if anyone has any luck with Medrol almost 2 months after onset of tinnitus. I had severe inflammation due to a fungal ear infection impacting my ear drum (hate Q-tips!). It's been healed since a couple of weeks; overall ear looks fine. ENT has prescribed a 4mg...

Tinnitus Due to External Fungal Ear Infection

Went to another ENT to get a second opinion. ENT confirmed that my ear looked good; saw no signs of inflammation. That was reassuring. Did say that ear infections can take time to fully heal and there may be inflammation that cannot be seen. Prescribed 4mg Medrol dose pack over with a...

Perhaps, a good idea would be to see another ENT. Please don't use q-tips. That's how I ended up in this situation.

Source of Tinnitus — Ear Inflammation or Brain — Is It Possible to Know?

Thanks for your responses. Tinnitus has been one of the most difficult things to experience. Made me realize that I need to be more careful with my ears. Ears are delicate and complex, and take too long to heal or recover. Hoping that the tinnitus goes away. I've had it for almost 2 months now.

Tinnitus Due to External Fungal Ear Infection

Just to clarify, the ENT said infection was resolved and my eardrum looked normal. Per them, there was no physical reason why this could be happening and that the tinnitus likely originated from the auditory cortex. I am just guessing that since ears can take time to heal, there may be still...

Tinnitus Due to External Fungal Ear Infection

Thank you. Appreciate you sharing your experience. I am hoping that this will resolve. The ENT said infection was resolved and my eardrum looked normal, but there may be still some healing left to do. My tympanometry for middle ear pressure etc. was normal. Am taking B-complex vitamins.

Tinnitus Due to External Fungal Ear Infection

Hello everyone. I developed tinnitus due to an external ear infection. The primary care physician initially mistook this for a bacterial infection. When the infection did not clear after a 10 day course of antibiotics, I went to an ENT, who immediately said it was a fungal ear infection...
