    That's not always the case. I was totally completely fully habituated to my 40 dB hearing loss for 25 years until I got tinnitus and it got me suicidal for a very long time. I didn't even wear hearing aids for 25 years.

    I experience the same for sure. Yesterday I was for business in a loud house. I'm worried but my tinnitus was MUCH lower that evening. This summer I went to a loud party and drink a lot of beer, the day after was the quietest in 14 months of tinnitus.

    I can hear my tinnitus always. But it fluctuates a lot. Sometimes it's a bit softer than usually but I can still hear it always. But to me it's comforting then. So I think what's intrusive to others can be at times comforting for others.
