2 Months In, the Worst Seems to Be Over

Ok. I regret not stopping sooner, but I had to make sure that it was in fact the drug causing the spike. I don’t want to give up too hastily on something that could’ve really helped me.

2 Months In, the Worst Seems to Be Over

I have tinnitus from acoustic trauma (musician) which I’ve had for at least two years. Recently my doctor prescribed me Wellbutrin to help manage my ADHD (which I’ve had since always, but never got on treatment until I became concerned it was inhibiting my ability to drive safely). I did 150...

Inner Ear Hair Cell Regeneration — Maybe We Can Know More

I’ve done that too, can hear all the way up to 16kHz, which is within normal range for my age (25). Also, my more bothersome tone is 500Hz, which is pretty low. My OAE definitely went to at least 12k but I don’t have the graph in front of me.

Inner Ear Hair Cell Regeneration — Maybe We Can Know More

My hearing is perfectly normal according to an OAE. The only real indications of damage are T and decrease in LDLs. So either I damaged hair cells that weren’t tested, or I damaged something else, such as synapses. I think the latter is more likely since I’m pretty sure I have an abnormal...

New University of Michigan Tinnitus Discovery — Signal Timing

It’s been in development for over 20 years from what I understand. These things take time. But the more time they spend getting it right, the more likely it is to provide results. I would think think that if it really didn’t show substantial promise, they wouldn’t have wasted all that time...

It seems this guy was only using magnetic stimulation without the audio component, which as I understand isn’t any better than audio without physical stimulation. Also, Shore’s device uses electric pulses rather than magnetism. I wouldn’t be too worried yet.

If it’s what the device is worth, it’s what it’s worth. There is high demand for this device and if it works as advertised, no real substitute. I think it’s important that people have access to it, but I also think that the creators should get royalties for their hard work. GoFundMe is just...

New University of Michigan Tinnitus Discovery — Signal Timing

This device has been 20 years in the making and provides relief for a condition which previously had next to none. I think that price would be fair for the hypothetical gain. If you’re truly suffering and the device really provides significant relief, I think you’d find a way to get the cash.

Doesn’t have any noticeable effect for me. But it seems like having the ability to modulate manually at all implies that the device could work for me. Clearly, my T is not caused by something in my auditory system that’s “dead” or I wouldn’t be able to manipulate it.

Noise-induced T here. The only thing that I’ve found that significantly reduces my volume is the “Reddit trick” (put hands over ears and flick the base of your skull with your fingers). That actually has made it go away almost completely for a few seconds in the recent past. Not sure if...

Inner Ear Hair Cell Regeneration — Maybe We Can Know More

http://www.aro.org/page/KujawaLiberman “... the cell bodies and central axons of cochlear neurons, survive for years to decades despite their loss of functional connection to the hair cells.” I believe the “degenerative state” occurs when the cell bodies die; at that point, the synapses have...

The Neurocognitive Mechanisms Underpinning Chronic Tinnitus

I also have had problems with fluid in my middle ear since I was 10. Since then, they’ve made crackly noises whenever I swallow or stretch my jaw certain ways. I’ve long “habituated” to that. Maybe this has compromised my ears somewhat. I have kind of bad neck posture too.

The Neurocognitive Mechanisms Underpinning Chronic Tinnitus

I think there’s a genetic component. I got mine from cumulative exposure to loud music, but I know many people who have been exposed to more than I have and they don’t have it (at least not to the extent I do). I saw an audiologist that specializes in T and H a few days ago. She says that some...

I've Got Tinnitus from One of the Happiest Events I've Had in My Life

Hey I know this is an old thread but I just wanted to connect because it feels very relevant to me as a musician (drummer). How have you been lately? Seen any improvement in your T? You’re lucky that you sought help right away. I first noticed mine somewhere around mid 2016 (probably started...

Obviously you’ve never experienced true passion in that manner. Being passionate about cake is not the same thing as being passionate about music. You can’t just flip a switch and decide “oh well, time to find a new passion” when this is what you’ve dedicated your life to. I think this kind...

    The Power of Accepting

That’s the thing, though. It’s hard for me to feel like life is worth living since I’m a musician and music is the thing that seems to be destroying me. I can’t listen to earbuds or headphones, can’t go to any shows that I’m not playing unless I use heavy duty protection... there aren’t a lot...

Low Pitch Tinnitus Due to Conductive Hearing Loss?

I had an audiogram last month and it came back normal, although it was hard to hear some of the tones over my tinnitus. Having another one on Tuesday. I think my high pitch tones are probably sensorineural due to cumulative noise damage, but I increasingly think the low pitch is not. I don’t...

Low Pitch Tinnitus Due to Conductive Hearing Loss?

Hi everyone, I’m 25 years old and have been experiencing “chronic” tinnitus for about 2 and a half years. I have at least one very high pitch (hard to tell if it’s one or multiple) and one low, 490 Hz pitch. Both ears for all the above. While I’ve been concerned about my tinnitus ever since...

Inner Ear Hair Cell Regeneration — Maybe We Can Know More

It means that hearing loss is the target of their research as opposed to tinnitus. If the tinnitus is linked to hearing loss, however, it stands to reason that tinnitus will also be significantly alleviated or possibly cured. Many people whose hearing improves due to hearing aids or stem cell...

Musician / Music Enthusiast with Tinnitus

I’m feeling absolutely crushed. I was in denial and I thought I could keep doing everything the same as long as I wore earplugs. I’ve never felt more hopeless or close to the edge than I do at this moment. Wow. It’s apparent there’s no true recovery from this.

Thanks again, Greg. I'm a bit of a noise addict, you might say, so "taking it easy" won't be *easy* but I'm willing to do it. At first I thought that if I just cut back a bit, I'd improve, but clearly that is not the case. Thank you for the help. I'm going to put in the effort to try and...

Musician / Music Enthusiast with Tinnitus

Hi Greg, thank you for the fast reply. Do you still think it will get better on its own even if I've been struggling for about a year? Most people say that if it's not gone in a few months is permanent. Granted, I have had mine in *some* form for years, but it was not as bothersome as it is...

Musician / Music Enthusiast with Tinnitus

Hi everyone. I am 25 and have been a professional musician (drummer) for about 7 years and a (loud) music lover for basically my whole life. I am currently suffering from moderate noise-induced tinnitus and sound sensitivity. I want to please ask before I continue that anyone responding to...
