White / Pink Noise Increases My Tinnitus When It Should Decrease It — Why?

Treatment with broadband noise requires you to listen to it at a barely audible level. This is what I was doing however, it still exacerbated my tinnitus symptoms.

White / Pink Noise Increases My Tinnitus When It Should Decrease It — Why?

I have been told by my audiologist. Quite honestly, my prior approach to healing did not use any form of broadband noise. I have had these symptoms before but it's only now I decided to try using white/pink noise as I also present with hyperacusis (which appears to have simultaneously flared...

White / Pink Noise Increases My Tinnitus When It Should Decrease It — Why?

If it is reactive, I don't know but mine appears to whistle in response to specific noises but disappears once the noise has faded. I am 6 weeks into a recent spike (foolish loud noise exposure) and really annoyed with myself as it could have been avoided but there we go... I have read about...

Hello! I have heard (and read) that white / pink noise are supposed to decrease tinnitus symptoms. However, it appears to increase my symptoms. Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks!

I think it is beginning to. Thank you for asking! I visited my audiologist and thankfully my hearing hasn't changed (no loss) but my hyperacusis has increased. I just have to give it time to sort itself out! :)

    Hissing Reactive Tinnitus

Thanks for all the responses! I believe this is hyperacusis as this has also ramped up since the onset of these symptoms. Specific noises hurt! On a positive note I have had this before (identical symptoms) which did reduce when my sound sensitivity faded. This did take appropriately three...

    Hissing Reactive Tinnitus

Hello everyone, Has anyone experienced a hissing noise which increases in volume in response to fans, AC, crowds...? This is my latest devil (following a spike due to recent noise exposure). It turns down when it's quiet. A Morse code beeping noise seems to also accompany it (which is also...

Tips for Habituating to Tinnitus? Do People with Mild-to-Moderate Tinnitus Have Good Lives?

Hello! Ok, so I have had tinnitus for 16 years without a known cause. No apparent hearing loss. I was diagnosed with severe bilateral tinnitus at initial diagnosis and have since then experienced multiple spikes however, I understand this is only a sound and have coped fairly well. I can sleep...

    Can Hyperacusis Make Tinnitus Worse?

Yes, hyperacusis can make tinnitus seem louder. It has happened to me several times - I have flare ups of T which occur concurrently with increased hyperacusis. Hyperacusis is elevated sound sensitivity and thus you become more sensitive to the tinnitus. It does exist. It is a true condition and...

What Would You Like to Ask a Long-Term Sufferer of Severe Tinnitus?

Hello! I have severe tinnitus in both ears with several different sounds. Annoyingly, I have a recent spike from noise exposure so it's louder than loud. However, I know habituation will happen and eventually (like before) it won't bother me. It'll be background noise...

    Here We Go Again...

I have had bilateral tinnitus for 16 years - no known cause and no, I don't have hearing loss. I have been told I have brilliant hearing following multiple hearing tests. I do have hyperacusis though. Anyhow, I have habituated many, many times following spikes over the last 16 years and will...

    Here We Go Again...

Hello everyone, Well, here I am again complaining of ANOTHER spike in tinnitus. Thank you West End musical! Anyhow, my tinnitus is having a 'hissy fit' again and quite literally - it's hissing! This is my third spike in 4 years (two of which were idiopathic) but the fun of habituating again...

Pain in and Around Ear Since Spike

Hello everyone, I've recently developed a spike in my 'noise' and am experiencing considerable muscular pain around my ear and pain within my ear. I am dealing with sound intolerance at the moment, particularly from sudden noises, e. g. slamming doors, plates etc, as well as reactive T (hissing...

    Here We Go Again...

Argh! It's crazy - I had been to SO many loud places after this first hit and I never once had a flare up. Nothing changed until roughly two years ago and believe me I can't think of anything that could have caused the spike. I hadn't been exposed to anything loud at all but out of the blue -...

    Here We Go Again...

Hello everyone, I'm not new to this tinnitus crap that we're all having to deal with. Mine started when I was 18 (i'm 32 now) and for no apparent reason - started in one ear and then the other joined in about a week later. I've had four hearing tests in four independent places and all within...
