I Feel Like I Just Can't Do This Anymore

T is one of the hardest things I have gone through - and I am actually lucky that I can say that. There are a lot worse things out there in this world. I would see a doctor about how you are feeling. It sounds like you feel down quite a lot of the time, and I think it would be wise to get on...

    Flying & Tinnitus

Hiya. There is a thread already about flying with T if you search in the box. I posted there myself when I flew with T - and everything was perfectly fine, no increase in T whatsoever - and a lot of people give great advice. I too had pain due to pressure because of landing. On the thread I...

Really need some help with tinnitus

You're doing the right thing. I know some people - myself included - don't like taking drugs, but at the end of the day sometimes you need them. As long as your doctor is monitoring you, you should be fine. I'm sorry you're feeling so rotten. It will get easier, I promise you. It's hard to...

Really need some help with tinnitus

Also, here is something that should help you. Found this on another thread I keep reposting it because it really cheers me up. "I have been speaking to many people and read stories of people who got rid of their ringing in the ears . I wanted to put everything together for you.First, I must...

Really need some help with tinnitus

Don't worry about it - I don't think there is one person on this forum who doesn't understand what you are going through. And yes, there are recovery stories about T. On the internet it feels like it may be forever, but when you speak to people in real life you realise that not only have they...

Really need some help with tinnitus

Hiya Caff. Sorry to hear that you are struggling. Don't worry - we have all been where you are. I remember the first week I got T (I believe from a cold) I was terrible: struggled to sleep, couldn't eat - I even made myself sick from the fear and anxiety of it all. I honestly thought that I...

Having a big relapse and feeling depressed

It's no problem - we're all in the same boat with this damn T. :) Yes, you have done it once and can do it again. I think during the day is always easier for people, especially if your T is masked when outside. I can still struggle at night - not to the extent where I can't sleep, but I...

Having a big relapse and feeling depressed

Hey @Hare Bell. Sorry to hear you are going through a hard time - hopefully you are doing better now? The thing about T is that we can all have relapses, even years later. The good news? It doesn't sound like your T has gotten any louder. It sounds more like that talking about T has...

Here I am asking for more hugs

I'm so sorry derpytia. It's super irritating: you start getting use to the noise and then get another one to add to it. Major hugs to you :huganimation: As I've said, you can still habituate to the noise whether it is one tone or ten, though it is a little harder when you get another one...

What Do Your Friends Think of Tinnitus?

That's the thing: I don't think anyone understands T until they have it. I think before, if someone had mentioned T, I would have thought, "Their ears must have had something wrong with them in the first place" and not thought that it could get very loud. I wouldn't have thought it could...

Do You Think It Will Go Away For Me?

You're very young, and your ability to heal will be much better because of that. Hopefully your T will disappear soon. I agree with the suggestions above: be careful with loud noises for now, and to be honest even if your T goes, always wear earplugs to things like this, as well as concerts...

What Do Your Friends Think of Tinnitus?

I think people who don't have it think, "that'll never happen to me", like how we see bad things happening to people on the news and we think, "that's so sad" but in the back of our heads we're thinking, "I don't need to worry about that, it would never happen to me". Unfortunately with T a lot...

    What is considered early stages

All being well it will just go - and it can go at any time. I would say after 2 years it is more likely to be permanent BUT that being said, my mother has a friend who had it leave AFTER 2 years, so obviously it can go. I read somewhere that one guy had it for 16 years and it went, so it is...

    Does It Actually "Go Away?"

Actually I was just discussing this in another thread and I believe it DOES go away for a lot of people. I have spoken to two people that I know and both had T (one said it sounded like a generator) and it disappeared for one after 6-9 months (she doesn't even remember how long she had it) and...

Anyone with tinnitus at a 8 to 10 level?

Thank you for that @Mr. Cartman, I have spoken to two people with T, and both of there's went away: one some times between 6-9 months, another after 2 years. I actually believe that T does have a great chance of going away, despite the fact we can have it a long time. After all, I think...

Anyone with tinnitus at a 8 to 10 level?

Hi Telis. I am sorry to hear what a difficult time you are having. Your T does sound very intrusive indeed, and I understand that it would be very difficult to habituate at that level. That being said it CAN happen, and actually is LIKELY to happen. It just might take longer. You can...

    New Member - Musician here

I would be careful: the fact that the ringing doesn't go until a few days later, not a few hours, suggests that your ears aren't coping well. Definitely buy custom made earplugs - they are expensive but they will protect your hearing better than normal ones. You have to decide whether you...

MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) Discussion & Experiences & Questions

I think it is best to have a MRI scan to be on the safe side. It won't do any harm, but as you have been advised above, please use earplugs as it is very loud. Hope you are okay.

Smoking cigarettes making my tinnitus worse?

Smoking cigarettes making my tinnitus worse?

I would strongly advise quitting smoking. For a start, smoking DOES cause hearing loss. Copy and paste this link: https://www.google.co.uk/?gws_rd=ssl#q=Smoking+causes+hearing+loss And since we know that T can usually be due to some form of hearing loss, it is likely that a prolonged period...

Hello to Everyone Out There! New Here!

Hey! Believe me, I understand where you are coming from: I got T when I was 21 (am 22 now) and had finished a stressful 3 year history course. My T also seemed to come out of the blue, after having a cold. I remember the week before I had a bit of ear ache (still get bits of it now, though...

How Do You Work with Tinnitus?

It's hard when you first get T to work, but it gradually gets easier. The first week with T, work was hell, because I was terrified and so tired. But for me work is a great way to ignore the T, because there is so much noise from the street (my office is right next to the front door and...

My Time to Share. Respect to You All!

Good for you! I am so pleased that your T has gotten tones better! Ideally I would like to be where you are - where I can only hear it when I plug my ears. I would be happy with that. Your T sounds like it is a lot better, and who knows? It might go altogether if it is already this low! :)...

The "Power" of the Brain Against Tinnitus?

    My friend amazed me today...

You could always try leaving and see how you feel. You can come back if you feel like you need support. And you could have a break for like, a day or a week and then come back - like building up to not coming on the site at all. I know what you mean: I don't what I would have done without TT...

Argh, not having a good month really...

You didn't always have these tones, so they could go again. I'm afraid I can't advise anything else other then mask them and try to ignore it. It does get better: I am only 5-6 months in and am just getting there. You can still have good moments with T.

The "Power" of the Brain Against Tinnitus?

I'm afraid I don't believe the theory about it being "memorised" by the brain. Surely if that was the case, wouldn't listening to a song over and over do the same thing? And even if we memorise the song, how come we don't "hear it" all the time, like we do with T? Besides, there are stories...

Hiya @LadySoubi. As @Jeff M said, you have definitely come to the right place. I am sure everyone here knows exactly what you are going through. Firstly, I agree with Jeff: I would go and see an audiologist if you feel like loud noises are amplified. Has it been that way since you first got...

The "Power" of the Brain Against Tinnitus?

I think a positive attitude can do wonders. Thinking negatively has shown to make us less healthy, so the more positive you are the better. I think that T can recover at any point, because as you said it is the brain adapting. And if you think about it, when people go out to clubs etc their...

It's okay, I'm glad I cheered you up. :) There is so much negativity when it comes to T, we need to spread some positivity. The internet is filled with horror stories, but I suppose it makes sense because when we are depressed/worried we want to rant about it on the sites. I love the quote...

Loud Tone for a Few Seconds — Fleeting / Transient Spontaneous Tinnitus

My fleeting T is really random. I remember I barely had it the first month, but when I did have it would happen like twice in an hour. I remember I had it once and then about a minute later had it again. Bizarre. But as far as I'm aware it shouldn't affect your T. It is scary because you're...

    AM-101

It would be wise to have a scan, but I am fairly confident it is not AN. As the man on the phone said, it is very rare, and if you had it I would expect you to also have headaches and be tired. If you want one for your own peace of the mind then do - it can't do any harm to have a scan - but I...

How Do You Live With This?

I know. It's so frustrating. I don't want to blame my doctor because he is a great doctor. He explained what he thought the problem was, what could be done etc. he was Beth kind and sympathetic. He had faith it would have gone by now. Unfortunately I have not been so lucky :-(

    Hard Day

Yes Nich, my anxiety is a lot better. Don't get me wrong, I still have bouts of panic now and again, but I get through them. Unlike the first week where I was obsessed with the ringing, I can now ignore it. Let me tell you, I can now read in silence and ignore it. I don't need any sounds to...

    Hard Day

Tell me about it. I try to tell myself: "it's just a sound" but we both know it's more than that. I was actually sick due to stress. I thought that it had been because of the cold I got the week before my T began, but I now know it was because of anxiety. Eating will help though. Do...

Six and a Half Weeks Now

I read somewhere that the pulsing T (PT) can happen to ordinary people without T, that they just get it sometimes when they are bending etc. But the PT I think proves that it isn't hearing loss - I am 99.9% that PT has nothing to so with hearing loss. If it just one or two bouts of it I...

How Do You Live With This?

I have not been to see an ENT yet. In my country you can't go unless a doctor refers you. Mine finally has, and my appointment is on the 1st August. A long time to wait. :-( My own doctor took the same line as yours. He doesn't want me to have the procedure unless I have to. He says that if...

Please don't apologise. TT is here to allow us to rant about out T. I have done it enough times. We all have bad days. Try to think of it this way: you've had a bad day, but now that this day is over it brings another day, and a chance to have a good day. I also like to think after a bad...

It's Impossible to Avoid All Random Loud Noises

I think it is impossible to avoid loud noises all the time, unless you want to stay in your room all day. And unfortunately for those who have severe hyperacusis, it's very difficult. Earplugs are a good solution, but you risk developing/making H worse. I would suggest that if your T proves...

Different Types of Tinnitus and Duration?

I think it's hard to predict when T will go. Usually the best thing to do is to find the cause of the T and treat it. Unfortunately I find stress a very difficult one to solve, because I feel that even when people calm down their T is still presence - though perhaps it is a lot calmer when...

    Ear Plugs and Clubbing

I would advise you getting custom made earplugs to offer the best protection if you're serious. Earplugs can protect you but I have heard of people getting spikes even though they used protection. If I am honest I would advise you not going if you don't want your T to spike.
