Can anyone offer me hope about reactive tinnitus? I've had it almost 10 months now and I’m exhausted. If it weren’t for my daughter I’d be dead now.

Even on Ativan I have severe panic attacks. When did your panic attacks subside? Having a huge set back. At 5 months in was finally off the Ativan. Huge setback with grommets. Now I am sick all day long with worry. Fear. Depression. Concerns. Afraid the tinnitus will kill me.

I’m worried I will never get used to this reactive high pitched tinnitus. I only get a break from it in the shower. I feel sick. I wake up and I could vomit from all the anxiety. When will the anxiety go?

I think my problem is that I have incredibly terrible anxiety and depression and can’t relax ever to get used to my tinnitus. Please keep this post positive and a safe space for those of us in a fragile state of mind right now.

@Kazue this is a great story! I’m really struggling with high pitched reactive tinnitus which I can hear everywhere. I’m worried I’ll never habituate. When did you notice your tinnitus getting better? I’m 9 months in but after an ear surgery my mild tinnitus is now severe tinnitus.

@MidnightOilAudio how long did it take you to get to this point. Mine fills my whole head to and is loud in silence, and loud around other noises. But I’m determined to make peace with my tinnitus.

Thank you @Jason37! This is so encouraging. I just get so scared when I see so many people talk about suicide from tinnitus and they have been struggling for a long time. Why do some people habituate and others not at all?

Can people who have habituated or gotten better at managing their tinnitus offer advice? Struggling at 9 months in.

I cast my vote as 3-6 months after onset my tinnitus was bearable in a silent room. Since my grommet surgery I have high pitched ringing from Satan himself. It’s been six weeks and it hasn’t changed.

@JohnAdams do you mean you had a high pitches sound that lessened or is this your current tinnitus?

@robHing my spike from flying has settles thankfully but my spike from my ear surgery 5 weeks ago has not. I am making a plan for habituation hopefully I can achieve in the next year. This new T is ten times worse than my old t. I miss my old t so much. I’m just trying to do my best for my family.

@Deamon22 whenever I work out it spikes my T pretty much the whole time. It settles after. Since my T spike I haven’t worked out much because I can’t handle anymore than what is going on already. I’m sorry you had to stop working out. But that’s such good news your T is lower at only 3 months...

@Red I am so sorry you have chronic pain AND tinnitus! I am trying so hard not to let myself sink into the cycle of despair and catastrophic thinking. I keep telling myself it will all be okay. One day I’ll wake up and it will be. How are you coping?

Before my spike I would make an effort to keep my house silent because noises just made my tinnitus louder. Now it doesn't matter, I hear it with noise on or off so what the hell. In anxiety mode so I have been masking but again I still hear tinnitus so seems dumb to me.
