Taking Benzos for Hyperacusis Until Better Treatments Are Available

I am not a doctor but my tinnitus appeared one month after I took my last dose of benzos so I see it as a possible cause in my case. There are also a lot of anecdotal reports from other people online who say they got tinnitus during benzo withdrawal (usually temporary but sometimes permanent)...

Positive Benzo Taper Outcomes: Temporary or No Tinnitus Loudness Increases etc?

Like I said in my previous posts, I didn't abruptly stop. I tapered for about two months cutting down my dose by a small amount each week. Maybe this was still too fast, I don't know. My doctor told me this was ok. I took the Lorazepam for 9 months, 1 mg per day. But I am starting to doubt...

Positive Benzo Taper Outcomes: Temporary or No Tinnitus Loudness Increases etc?

Well I just did what my doctor told me so I don't know. My tinnitus sounds like a high pitched hiss and is very reactive to sound. It is relatively easy to mask with high pitched masking sounds but I do hear it over moderately loud sound (like the TV on normal volume). I would say it is about a...

Positive Benzo Taper Outcomes: Temporary or No Tinnitus Loudness Increases etc?

Hi, Yes, I tapered the Lorazepam for about two months when I wanted to stop the Lorazepam. Unfortunately my tinnitus hasn't changed at all since it started and I am pretty sure it is permanent at this point. I am getting more used to it though and it doesn't bother me as much anymore. I am...

Prevalence of Tinnitus in People Aged 60 or Older?

My parents (71 and 67) both have mild tinnitus that doesn't bother them. I have a friend who is in his 70s and he also has mild tinnitus.

Share Your Coronavirus (COVID-19) Vaccine Experience: Any Impact on Your Tinnitus or Hyperacusis?

    Exploding Head Syndrome?

Sometimes when I wake up my tinnitus turns into a loud electrical "zapping" sound, similar to how people describe exploding head syndrome. I have no idea why.

Tinnitus Is Better in Silent Rooms

My tinnitus is exactly like that too. In quiet rooms it doesn't bother me that much, but it is very annoying when watching tv.

Is the Cause of Your Tinnitus UNRELATED to Hearing Loss or Acoustic Trauma?

I am 99.9% sure that mine was not caused by hearing loss or acoustic trauma. I just woke up with it one day 3 years ago and it hasn't stopped since. The only possible causes I can think of are benzodiazepines (lorazepam), which I took for several months during a very bad period in my life or...

Tinnitus Fades in Early Morning in Semi-Conscious State: Debunks the Damaged Hair Cells Theory

I have noticed this too. When I am still half asleep my tinnitus is very quiet, almost like a whisper. Then, as a start to wake up it starts getting louder and much more high pitched. When I am fully awake it quiets down a bit again (until I get exposed to sound, then it spikes again). So weird.

Pulsatile Tinnitus Getting Loud After Waking Up During REM Sleep

My tinnitus isn't pulsatile, but it is always very high pitched and loud when I wake up. Sometimes it turns into this weird electrical zapping sound, which never happens when I am fully awake. I have no idea why.

Does Reactive Tinnitus Usually Implicate Noise-Induced Tinnitus or an Acoustic Trauma?

My tinnitus is very reactive and I am sure it wasn't caused by noise damage.

If You Have Benzo Induced Tinnitus (Klonopin, Xanax, Valium, Ativan, etc.), What Does It Sound Like?

My tinnitus may have been caused by benzos (Lorazepam). It appeared a month after I took my last benzo. I am not sure the Lorazepam was the cause, but based on what I have read online it seems at least possible. My tinnitus constantly changes. In a quiet room it is a quiet buzz, in a moderately...

Taking Benzos for Hyperacusis Until Better Treatments Are Available

Be very careful man. I know you are desperate, but taking benzos for a long time can really mess up your brain and make tinnitus worse (or even cause it in people who didn't have it before). I strongly suspect that benzos caused my tinnitus or at least contributed to it.

No, no improvement, sadly. My tinnitus hasn't changed at all in the 2 years since it appeared.

Poll: Do You Mask Your Tinnitus When You Sleep?

I don't need masking to sleep because my tinnitus is very quiet when there isn't a lot of background noise. I only use masking when I watch tv (my tinnitus is very reactive and the sound of the tv makes it spike).

No Clue What's Going On: Could Clonazepam Have Contributed to My Tinnitus Getting Worse?

My T began about a month after I took my last dose of lorazepam. I had never had tinnitus before that in my life. It hasn't really changed, but I guess I have gotten used to it a bit more (still hate having it though).

No Clue What's Going On: Could Clonazepam Have Contributed to My Tinnitus Getting Worse?

I suspect that my tinnitus was caused by lorazepam (a benzo similar to clonazepam). It is a common benzo withdrawal symptom that usually fades with time for most people. Unfortunately I am one of the unlucky ones and my tinnitus is still there after more than 2 years.
  19. Ken77

    Unilateral Reactive Tinnitus?

Yes, I also have reactive tinnitus in one ear only (in my case my left). I am not sure what caused mine but I think it was either extreme stress or benzodiazepines (lorazepam), or maybe both.

Tinnitus Has Faded, Other Symptoms Persist (Internal Tremors, Sound Sensitivity, Eye Floaters)

I have this too and I think it is related to my tinnitus somehow because those tremors affect it (it becomes a lot more high pitched when I have them). I am glad to hear your tinnitus is fading. Mine is still exactly the same after more than 2 years.

Clonazepam for Myoclonic Jerks at Night

You are probably worrying way too much and that is causing most if not all of your symptoms. I am speaking from personal experience lol. Try to avoid focusing on worst case scenarios.

Positive Benzo Taper Outcomes: Temporary or No Tinnitus Loudness Increases etc?

My tinnitus may have been caused by taking benzos (Lorazepam) daily for about 9 months. I am not completely sure, but my tinnitus appeared about a month after I took my last dose, and I know it is a common withdrawal symptom, so I think it is at least a possible cause in my case.

If You Put In Earplugs/Headphones, and Listen to Your Tinnitus for 15-30 Minutes, What Happens?

My tinnitus always decreases when I am in a quiet environment (or when wearing earplugs). It is extremely reactive to sound. It is a 2/10 low buzz in a quiet room and a 5/10 high pitched, very annoying hiss in a moderately loud room.

Tinnitus Caused by SSRI Meds or Anxiety?

My tinnitus is still exactly the same. I am getting a bit more used to it though so I guess that is something.
  25. Ken77

My Tinnitus Is Very Quiet in the Mornings — Then Gets Louder — Why?

Mine is the same. In my case I am sure it is because sound "stimulates" my tinnitus. I notice an immediate increase whenever I am around a lot of sound. When I am in a quiet room my tinnitus calms down a lot which is why falling asleep isn't really a problem for me.

What Do You Still Enjoy in Spite of Tinnitus?

I can still do pretty much everything I did before I had tinnitus but I can only watch tv or play video games when I use a white noise masking app at the same time. Without it my tinnitus still annoys me a lot and I can't enjoy those activities. The white noise is also somewhat annoying and I...

    Star Wars

I loved the origial trilogy when I was a kid. I don't know how many times I watched those movies but it was a LOT. I was not a big fan of the prequels (they are just ok imho). I loved the Force Awakens and liked Rogue One, but I didn't really like the Last Jedi and Solo that much. I am still...

Nighttime Fan Alternative (Bluetooth Speaker + Mobile App)?

I use this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nl.appyhapps.tinnitusmassage&hl=en I don't think it really works for lowering tinnitus, but it is great for masking. My tinnitus is high pitched and it completely masks it.

What's Your Definition of Mild Tinnitus?

Mild tinnitus is when you only hear it in a very quiet place imho. Mine fluctuates between mild and moderate, it is very reactive to sound. When I am in a quiet room it is mild (like a 2 /10) but when I am in a room with moderate noise it becomes a 5/10. It bothers me most when I am trying to...

    My Tinnitus Seems Unique?

Your tinnitus seems similar to mine. I also got it for no apparent reason (possibly anxiety) and it is extremely reactive to sounds. I have to use masking sounds when watching TV or I can't focus.

With What Kind of Tinnitus Would You Be Satisfied or Able to Live with?

I would be ok with mild tinnitus that you can only hear in a very quiet room. My current tinnitus is moderate, like a 5-6/10 (I can hear it in moderately loud environments). It is also extremely reactive. I have to use masking when I want to watch tv or work because I can't focus without it...

Tinnitus Caused by SSRI Meds or Anxiety?

My case is somewhat similar to yours (although I don't have any significant hearling loss). I developed tinnitus out of nowhere after a very stressful period. Head Tinnitus from Stress

I have tinnitus for unknown reasons but stress also seems to be one of the possible causes in my case. It appeared out of nowhere during a very stressful time in my life :(. I wouldn't describe my tinnitus as "head tinnitus" though. I definitely hear it ONLY in my left ear.

Does Anyone Else Have Tinnitus in Head, Not Ears?

I have the exact same thing. My tinnitus is very low when I am in total silence but when I am exposed to moderate sound it becomes much louder. So strange. I wouldn't describe my tinnitus as coming from my brain though. I only hear it in my left ear.
  42. Ken77

If Tinnitus Is in the Head, Is It Only Anxiety? Do You Perceive Your Tinnitus in Ears or Head?

I have tinnitus for unknown reasons but stress/anxiety is a likely cause in my case. I only hear it in my left ear.
