    The Positives of Tinnitus

I have started taking better care of myself, my body and mind, and everything becomes almost too easy with my new improved perspective. "Lifting this 200 lbs weight? Pssht, that's easy I have dealt with tinnitus!" Washing the dishes, which previously caused me headaches, I now do with a smile...

    Disappointed

Yeah, people working in the medical community are not only there to mend your body but also help ease your pain, which also correlates to you getting better physically. Sadly, this sentiment is lost on many people working there. There are the good few though. Now with the habituation part. If...

It took 3 months. Now I only hear it in absolute silence and when I want to.

    Disappointed

I began by putting a set of speakers in my room where I could not locate them visually, as to not perceptually locate the source of the noise, and had them on with pink noise through out most the day. This trick I discovered was really interesting, because instead of having a pair of headphones...

    Disappointed

Had the same experience when I had my first hearing test. After the test I told the guy that was administrating it “I may have a bit of a problem hearing the lowest frequencies because they are masked by my tinnitus” His response? “Yeah, tinnitus is incurable and it may lead to depression and...

    Tinnitus Started Randomly

Hi Jack! In regards to tinnitus, sometimes it is not necessarily noise induced. There are plenty of other causes for it, which I think are far too many to mention here(you can always look it up). What I can tell you however is that the ears work like muscles. You are used to using your...

Does Anyone Know Why It Appears or Not After Sleep?

I have the opposite of everyone here, my tinnitus actually decreases after a good night sleep(to the point where I think it's gone). Weird huh.

I Decided to Start Going Out Again

Hey Redthinker! Good for you, go out there, explore the world damnit! :) I have been through a lot of earplugs, the ones I like the absolutely most, and that I am wearing today, are these babies(size small): They are really practically invisible. Nobody in my circle of friends has even...

    Dr. Jastreboff and Loudness ...

@Dr. Nagler First and foremost I want to thank you for your participation in such an important field. I do have an inquiry though. I would like to understand the deeper meaning, which perhaps is a semantic one, of the word “habituation”. As I understand it, the word means to decrease or cease...

Am I Crazy for Preferring a Louder Environment??? Wait......

@JTP Well, my hyperacusis has in fact gotten better and will hopefully disappear in the near future! No, I encourage everyone to talk about the "it will get better"-part as well, not just the "I am forever sad"-part. Even if it's a personal experience. It helps people to see a light in the midst...

Am I Crazy for Preferring a Louder Environment??? Wait......

It totally depends on the your source of tinnitus. For me, I do not have spikes in loud environments at all. The problem I have is Hyperacusis which a lot of Tinnitus sufferers also have. You can understand the hell that is. You want to be in a quite environment? The T will kill you You want...

    The Positivity Thread

As I climb my insurmountable mountain yearning for greater heights and fresher air, as a lot of you are, I can not but be reminiscent of the great poet Tagore's mysterious words “In the mountain, stillness surges up to explore its own height. In the lake, movement stands still to contemplate its...

Don't You Hate It When Noisy Motorbikes Go Past!

The most valuable advice I could give to any hyperacusis sufferer is to befriend the noise! Believe it or not, those who suffer from sensitivity to sound can and will get better, sometimes even recover fully. Find your limit, stay a bit below it and push the limit up!

    Do-It-At-Home Therapy? Does It Exist?

Heya guys! I have a mild case of the hyperacusis. I was just wondering if there is any therapy that you can partake in a with just a computer and headphones that will help you. It's not going to be as good as a profesionally administered one of course, but just one that will help me improve...

    Pulsatile Tinnitus. Scared.

Hi Heidi! I need to get this through to you. We sometimes find ourselves in a predicament that can I either define our place of happiness for us or that we can define a place for it in our happiness. Will it be easy? Hell no. The point Heidi is that you are hurt now. Trust me, I have had...

    Spiritual Messages

Ignorance is bliss... The human mind has the extraordinary ability of searching for meaning in suffering. That's why we erect cathedrals, think of our dead as alive and endure suffering for outlandish purposes. It soothes. Oh, what I wouldn't pay for a purpose that soothes! I sometimes wonder...

How Old Were You When Your Tinnitus Started?

I got it at 24 years of age. Sinus infection at first then working in a loud environment and then BAM now I have H and T. Weird that no one ever mentioned that the ears can receive a beating from a sinus infection, not even the doctor I visited! The tinnitus is bearable but the hyperacusis is...

    I Can't Stop Blaming Myself

I feel your pain Demi! My H and T all began because of a series of decisions in which had I aborted even one I would have been spared. The probability of acquiring H and T the way I did is really one in a million... yet I have it. I've been through a devastating guild trip the previous weeks...

Will it ever be the same? An introduction.

Thanks James! This is exactly what I am intending to do, because what else is there?' It's just that I feel like my will to creativity has diminished greatly. Is it perhaps just a ghost lingering on from the tramautic first weeks? I hope so. Onwards and upwards as the saying goes. Where to...

Will it ever be the same? An introduction.

Precisely how I feel. The few people I have spoken to about tinnitus expressed their frustration not in the annoyance of it(which it can be), but rather in its unfathomable intrusiveness. To borrow the words of Morpheus: “You don't know what it is, but it's there, like a splinter in your...
