Me and Everyday Noise — A Daily Challenge (Car Enthusiasts Here?)

@Telis There is an increase in my level of T if that is indication of damage. I have been trying to find db values for an engine with open hood but I cannot find anything. Do you happen to know if what I describe is in the damaging ranges of 90+db? @Luman I sure hope so!

Me and Everyday Noise — A Daily Challenge (Car Enthusiasts Here?)

@Telis I am concerned because I bent over the bare engine with my head (and ears) with the hood open. I did not stand next to the car with closed hood at idle (I do not worry about that). Is this a problem or is there potential for damage?

Me and Everyday Noise — A Daily Challenge (Car Enthusiasts Here?)

Hi there, I have been fighting the last weeks to stay calm around everyday noises but I still have my weak moments. Especially so with unusual sounds and situations. And this is my latest: The battery of my car died and someone had to give me a jump start. I did not wear plugs or muffs. We...

Just Learned the Hard Way That My Phone Beeps When the Battery Is Low

Bill, I had a very similar incident and was devastated and scared. I wanted to lower the volume of a cordless phone and the beep on confirming the lower volume I perceived to be extremely loud (and I still think it was in fact extremely loud) and the phone was in my hand so rather close to my...

Reactive Tinnitus? Hyperacusis? Anxiety? Frequent Spikes

Hi @Ed209 first of all thank you so much for your post! I really take this as my guideline. I am determined to stop overthinking and started after reading your post... ...but it is hard because the thought of potential damage lurking everywhere is not easy to get rid off. Can I ask you about...

Reactive Tinnitus? Hyperacusis? Anxiety? Frequent Spikes

@Ed209 Is there anything that I can do on my own to improve this situation? How can I get to a point where I can know whether or not something is objectively harmful for my hearing or not? What do you think about the assumptions that also lower sounds than 100db can cause damage and worsen T...

Reactive Tinnitus? Hyperacusis? Anxiety? Frequent Spikes

No pain. But this is what happens: loudish sound happens. Me: "hm that was loud, oh my god was is too loud, how loud was it, it can cause damage, can it cause damage," then the urge to know how loud it was by measuring (but I didn't know that sounds below 90db/100db at very short durations were...

Reactive Tinnitus? Hyperacusis? Anxiety? Frequent Spikes

@Contrast so no pain, no hyperacusis, correct? An extra ringing or louder ringing in reaction to a sound below 100db etc. would not qualify.

Reactive Tinnitus? Hyperacusis? Anxiety? Frequent Spikes

Oh ok, didn't know that frequency also plays a role. So there is no sense in measuring the db of the ring and beeps, yes? So @another sean you do not talk or think about hyperacusis in these cases, correct? because it is a matter of the frequency of damage.

Reactive Tinnitus? Hyperacusis? Anxiety? Frequent Spikes

Thank you @another sean! So a phone ring at 100db with you with plugs and muffs would probably leave 70 db, and this range has caused a permanent change? So in your opinion even if I would measure the beep, it would not tell me if damage has been done? Was this incident shortly after your...

Reactive Tinnitus? Hyperacusis? Anxiety? Frequent Spikes

Thanks for your advice! So just to understand this: Beeps from electronic devices (and I dont talk about alarms, sirens, etc.) can cause damage in close proximity (1 or 2 feet) for people with T? The reaction I have is an indication of damage? Do you have hyperacusis?

Reactive Tinnitus? Hyperacusis? Anxiety? Frequent Spikes

First of all I want to say that I would not know what to do without Tinnitus Talk. It's beginning to dawn on me that my problem is more complex than I thought. My problem is that I am extremely afraid for my tinnitus to change by further damage to the ear. Maybe you can tell me what's going on...

Traffic and Motorbike on Highway — Need Help with dB Estimates

This is all so difficult. I dont know if this was a real threat in terms of sound levels for damage or if Im just too scared of sound. So I know now that the explosive sounds were backfiring, which would be at 140 db :( I remember hearing a few of them. I dont have anyone to talk right now and...

Traffic and Motorbike on Highway — Need Help with dB Estimates

I'm so focused on damage and anxious that it is definitely louder now :(

Traffic and Motorbike on Highway — Need Help with dB Estimates

Sorry, I cant edit my post but this is the example I found from an actual scientific study and maybe someone who understand these things can then tell me: Suzuki GSF 1200 at 10 000 rpm (what is that in mph?) is 95 db(A) at 33 feet, which would equal to 125db at 1 foot Is this a loud one?

Traffic and Motorbike on Highway — Need Help with dB Estimates

I didnt have my plugs with me, my fault. I try to find a balance between using protection and not becoming hypersensitive to sounds that are not damaging.

Traffic and Motorbike on Highway — Need Help with dB Estimates

Another day, another mishap. I know it’s crazy. I am visiting a friend and she wanted to walk me to and show me her new garden in an open area. What I did not was that it was about 250 feet next to a highly frequented highway. First question: Regular traffic sound from cars at the limit of 75...

    Nightmares About Loud Sound

This is really embarassing but I have nightmares about and with loud sound. Latest example out of many: I was forced into a club and the DJ explained to me that their equipment goes up to 140 dB. Then he turned on the volume, I putmy hands into my ears and ran, but I was exposed to the loud...

Firecracker While Inside but Window Open — Will I Be OK?

The links are great. Thank you. So, worst case scenario I was exposed to 110db for 1 second. Damage is out of the question for 99% then? Struggling with a spike unfortunately but I worry a lot.

Firecracker While Inside but Window Open — Will I Be OK?

Hi, I need some advice on the following: Some damn kids randomly used a single firecracker on my street just about 10 feet from the house I live in, so more or less in front of it :-(. I was inside my flat on the second floor of said house sitting in my living room, a room which has a windows...

    Stomping Sounds — Possible Damage?

Hi, since my onset I am very anxious about sounds. And today was terrible. I was put into a temporary office which was in another part of our building. The temporary office had very thin walls (still a closed office) and the floor outside the office is not made of concrete. To cut a long story...
