Does Tinnitus Affect Mental / Cognitive Functions?

Like, apart from depression, will this condition make anyone dumber? I'm just curious.

Will Foam Earplugs Damage My Hearing?

I've seen bad things about manual removal too, honestly. Though funnily enough she used a curette on me as well. :p

Will Foam Earplugs Damage My Hearing?

Yes. The ENT gave me the usual round of hearing tests , micro-sucked out some wax, and it went away for a few hours? Then came back lol. I haven't watched any videos but I did read the back of the box a few times.

Will Foam Earplugs Damage My Hearing?

Bit of an odd question but I have noticed a teeny bit of pain upon insertion of the things -- just wondering if that's a sign I should stop. Note the pain doesn't exist when they're in. I wear them for about 2 hours a day, four days a week while on the bus -- one hour to my school, when I get...

Poll: After Getting Tinnitus, Do You Still Use Headphones/Headsets?

I'm sort of dorming right now, can't have my music bothering my roommate. Plus I just prefer headphones for music.

Poll: After Getting Tinnitus, Do You Still Use Headphones/Headsets?

I still use them; without music I'd be too miserable. And my T is not affected by headphones anyway, it decreases and increases as it wishes to. My volume never exceeds 50% ( if it ever goes up that high even ) and I take 30 minute breaks between each hour. Also I no longer listen to music in...

Earplugs on Public Transport, Yes or No?

So I have to commute about 2 or so hours each day (1 hour to, 1 hour from) and I'm wondering if wearing ear plugs is a good idea. I've been using Silicone plugs from Walgreens for the past couple of days. But today my ears feel a bit full, wondering if the plugs are to blame. Should I keep...

Things Sound Sharp, Can Anyone Relate?

No, just slightly irritating. The metallic sound is unnatural to me so it's a bit worrying. That's all. And if not 'metallic', I feel I'm taking notice of sounds I used to ignore. Take me typing, for example. I'm hyper aware of my fingers hitting the keys, never felt that before.

Things Sound Sharp, Can Anyone Relate?

@Contrast The sharpness? It's not really bothersome unless I really, *really* focus on it ( which I tend to do ). Even then the things producing the sharpness have to get done & they aren't wildly loud like vacuuming or concerts so I just tell my ears to deal with it lol. @billie48 God bless...

Things Sound Sharp, Can Anyone Relate?

There's this metallic edge, a certain sharpness to some sounds now. Voices, water hitting the kitchen sink, the tap of my keys while I type -- what's up with that? It's not so prominent that it ruins me, but I notice it & it's slightly upsetting. Could that sharpness have always been there, &...

Safest Hearing Test for People with Tinnitus?

If not micro-suction, how else could the doctor remove impacted earwax? I've seen people here say manual cleaning is dangerous too because there's a chance of slicing open the ear canal or something. Thanks for the reply.

Safest Hearing Test for People with Tinnitus?

Only asking so I can know what to refuse and what to accept once I ask my ENT to test my hearing. I know a Tympanometry is a big no.

So, Is Everyone from My Generation Going to Get Tinnitus Eventually?

Folks born in 99-afterwards. Only asking because everyone I know (or see rather, I don't really 'know' people my age lol) use some type of headphone/earbud/iem/whatever you call it. Hello! New Here, and I Have a Few Questions.

To keep this short, I've bolded the important bits. My tinnitus came on just a few days ago, I'm 19 years of age. It happened after I used ear drops for wax ( brand name Major, it's got a yellow label with green lettering ). My experience can't speak for all but in the future, these may want...
