    Can Coughing Cause Barotrauma/Tinnitus?

I'm sorry. Hoping for the best for you (and all of us).

Does Anyone Feel Like They Are Frozen in Time?

Many of us are dealing with uncertainty about the noise and our futures. I guess one way of thinking about it is, assuming you choose to keep living, in 20 years, you may or may not still have as much bother by tinnitus. That's an unknown. However, in April 2040, you can have similar/less...

    Can Coughing Cause Barotrauma/Tinnitus?

Had some forceful coughing last few days (not COVD-19, just some reflux). After some particularly forceful coughing, my less affected ear now has fullness, pressure, itching, pain, and a little tinnitus. A bit terrified that I gave myself barotrauma to my good ear. Anybody ever experience...

I as well, before I found it. Anyone know why more research isn't being done into this area?

Ear "Resets" with a Microsecond of NO Tinnitus... What Is It? Avenue for Research?

Correct. It's the absence of the tinnitus for that microsecond. I wonder if whatever physiological phenomenon causes that second of absence can be replicated... perhaps some sort of electrical impulse in the inner ear? Has there been any current research in this area?
  6. Q

PILOT: Vote on Your Favourite Research Paper!

None of them. The papers talking about inner ear implants that seem to (successfully, if I recall) suppress tinnitus via electrical stimulation of deafferentated neurons (for which there is, inexplicably, no follow up or current research that I have noticed) is where all energy should be aimed...

Ear "Resets" with a Microsecond of NO Tinnitus... What Is It? Avenue for Research?

Does anyone else have this? Every now and then, I get a "reset". In pre-tinnitus days, it used to be a momentary sudden ring that slowly went away in seconds with a linear drop in volume. Had it once a month or two for my whole life. Now, the same sensation, except reversed. For a hundredth...

What Jobs Can People with Tinnitus & Hyperacusis Do?

That's not a bad idea. Anyone else out there... what do you work as? How has it changed since tinnitus?

What Jobs Can People with Tinnitus & Hyperacusis Do?

I myself am trying to find a career path that I can live with, or that my tinnitus can live with. I don't know when I will be able to return to my previous career. For some of you with experience in content creation, writing, web programming and such, remote and at-home jobs are plentiful...

Has Anyone Permanently Worsened Their Tinnitus by Holding in a Sneeze?

Accidentally partially held in a sneeze, so that some of the pressure went back into the ears. Couldn't help it. Now have ringing, fullness, and pain...just when things were seeming hopeful. Has anyone ever had a permanent spike from this?

Can You Cause Barotrauma by Covering Your Ears and Pushing Too Hard?

Basically... we've all been there, a truck is passing by, so you totally occlude your canals with your hand over your ears and push HARD. I did this too hard I think, and my ear seemed to feel weird. Is it possible to case barotrauma (and permanent damage) like that? A search of Tinnitus Talk...

What Jobs Can People with Tinnitus & Hyperacusis Do?

People keep repeating that, but I have searched, and searched, and searched, and searched, and can find absolutely no reputable jobs in proofreading, and no copywriting jobs except for those with many, many years of solid journalism or corporate writing experience. And I'm near a major city...

What Jobs Can You Do with Tinnitus?

Just out of curiosity, are you in the field? At least in my research, it is extremely difficult to find work as a TW without years of TW experience... everyone is trying to break into it but it seems very, very few wrangle enough "volunteer" gigs to make enough of a portfolio to ever get a...

Does Prednisone in Acoustic Trauma Help Prevent Tinnitus Later on?

I haven't seen this one addressed on Tinnitus Talk, so here goes. We know that (1) Prednisone is crucial for sensorineural hearing loss... and (2) Damage to hearing cells might predispose to tinnitus (and is possibly the cause of it)... but also (3) Prednisone may have no immediate effect on...

How Loud Is Too Loud for a Momentary Sound? Dropped a Keychain onto the Floor

So I dropped my heavy keychain onto the floor while trying to lock the door. Rechecked it with sound meter, wearing earmuffs... Clocked in at 95 dB. Don't know if it worsened my tinnitus yet. Anyone have a good rule of thumb as to how loud is too loud and likely to spike or damage...

LDL Test Spiked My Tinnitus — Is the Damage Permanent?

So I went to the "experts" and made the mistake of having the LDL (Loudness Discomfort Level) test done, with the worst kinds of beeps right into my eardrum. I should have read up here first. Now the tinnitus is spiking. Is this damage permanent?

What's the Real Difference Between Using Headphones and a Telephone?

I wonder what is the least bad option. My entire social life is basically phone calls, especially with driving. Now I have no social life. Earbuds obviously are bad. Speakerphone...totally useless while driving, if anything, it has to be cranked louder than the ambient driving noise, and my...

Did I Give Myself Bilateral Tinnitus from a Tiny Dose of Prednisone?

So I had a massive acoustic trauma, and now my tinnitus, which was in one ear, is now starting in the other as well. ENT "tinnitus specialist" has no advice. Do I keep it totally plugged to prevent further injury and allow ear to adjust, or leave it unplugged? Thanks all.

Did I Give Myself Bilateral Tinnitus from a Tiny Dose of Prednisone?

I have left sided tinnitus. Last night, I was in a store, and a fire alarm started blasting. Left ear plugged, right not so much. When I got home, accidentally dropped a toilet seat, very very loud. I was terrified so I took 10mg Prednisone (tiny dose). This AM I woke up and... Now I can't...

Does Tinnitus Ever Get Better? Mine Started from Barotrauma, Got Worse from Acoustic Trauma

I'm new here, new to tinnitus. My tinnitus was primed years ago by ear barotrauma by an unprofessional scuba diving class, and awoken by car horns and recent acoustic trauma. Possibly made worse by several tinnitus therapy YouTube videos. Did everything wrong so far, it seems.

Huge Thunder Strike within a Few Hundred Feet — What Emergency Precautions to Take for My Tinnitus?

Hey fellow sufferers, my first post. I was outside, with earplugs on, watching some rain clouds, suddenly lightning struck within a few hundred feet with a tremendously huge thunderclap. My wife nearby was terrified by how loud it was. I've gone shooting, and this was like 20 rifles going off...
