Noise Exposure / Ultrasonic Scaler at the Dentist

A bit maybe. The normal constant tinnitus doesn't really bother me that much anymore tho so it is hard to say. I can live with that. I definitely have days where I barely notice it though. It's the hyperacusis, reactive tinnitus, and sound distortions that I found particularly hard to live with...

    Noise-Induced Hyperacusis and "Reactive" / Sound-Sensitive Tinnitus 80% Gone

About 6 months. I'm not completely out of the woods yet. I'm still susceptible to spikes if I'm not careful. But it's a night and day difference how I am now compared to how I was even 2 months ago.

Noise Exposure / Ultrasonic Scaler at the Dentist

I'm doing much better. I believe what has helped me most is correcting my posture, doing daily stretches to try to keep my muscles loose, and addressing my TMJ issues. Currently, (well, prior to the pandemic) I see a TMJ specialist/Dentist who gave me a splint to wear to correct my jaw position...

    Noise-Induced Hyperacusis and "Reactive" / Sound-Sensitive Tinnitus 80% Gone

My H has faded to very manageable levels. For the most part, I'd say my noise tolerance is now just a bit below normal. I do believe over-activity of the tympani muscle and H are extremely correlated and they were for me and still are. If I am exposed to a very lout sharp sound, it will cause my...

Broken Ear or Hyperacusis (Distortion)? Most External Noises Sound Distorted

In that case I would suggest doing something similar. Work on your posture, loosen up your neck, see a TMJ specialist (dentist), and also possibly an Upper Cervical Chiropractor.

Broken Ear or Hyperacusis (Distortion)? Most External Noises Sound Distorted

I'm still seeing slow but noticeable improvement. What has been helping me is working on my posture. I do lots of excersizes for this. Switching to a firmer mattress. Also keeping neck and jaw loose, which is easier said than done. I am also looking into TMJ treatment with a specialists. I...

How Do You Know If Tinnitus Is from TMJ?

It is removable. But I am to wear it 24/7 except when eating. I have to say it HAS helped me sleep better. I slept through the entire night the last two nights, which I have not done in YEARS. It attaches to my upper teeth and it forces my bottom teeth and jaw forward. It it is hard to talk with...

How Do You Know If Tinnitus Is from TMJ?

Not sure how much of mine is TMJ related, but it does fluctuate a lot. However, I've never had actual pure silence since it started a year ago. But 10 days ago, for example, it was mostly just a hiss in the center of my head. Very manageable. Today I have different pure tones in both ears. Some...

How Do You Know If Tinnitus Is from TMJ?

Hmm... Have you ever sought treatment? LVI may all be marketing mumbo jumbo, but that's what I'm trying to figure out. My current orthodontist doing my TMJ treatment seems to use more old school methods. Not sure if my tinnitus is 100% due to TMJ, but I believe at least some part of it is...

How Do You Know If Tinnitus Is from TMJ?

Yes I am. That wouldn't worry me too much about that, personally. Pretty much every MD I have seen has some form of tinnitus. It is so common, his might not be TMJ related at all. And I am much more concerned about my hyperacusis and neck/ear/head pain than my tinnitus.

Hello again. Thanks again for all of your insight. I would just like to ask if your dentist you have been seeing for TMJ is LVI certified? It wasn't till a couple of days ago I learned about LVI and neuromuscular dentistry. I didn't realize there was a difference in TMJ treatments using...

    Strange Hearing Distortion/Dysacusis?

I just wanted to say mine has improved a lot. It's still there a little bit, but nothing like it was. Sometimes it will spike and get much worse, but usually goes back down after a few days. Mine comes along with these other symptoms that usually spike around the same time: TTTS, hyperacusis...

    Strange Hearing Distortion/Dysacusis?

If it's one or the other I would say the tympanogram is the much more likely culprit. TTTS and hyperacusis go hand in hand with my sound distortions. They come and go together.

Can Everyday Sounds Cause Further Hearing Damage with Hyperacusis?

No. They can cause setbacks in your hyperacusis depending on how sensitive you are, but they won't damage your actual hearing cells. If they do cause setbacks, then wear earplugs and gradually reduce the level of protection over time. For example start at -25db, then move to -20db, then later...

They should. You'll just need to be careful around loud sounds to not reaggravate it. Rule I follow for now is anything over 75db, wear ear plugs. Anything over 85db, leave. You should not be there. Anxiety does play a role, but it's not everything. Reducing anxiety will help a lot, but you...
