Decided to Have a Stapedectomy and Looking for Encouragement/Experiences with the Surgery

Not planning on flying anytime soon and I may be able to wangle a 2 night stay at the hospital and my son can come and visit like he did when I had my daughter and would understand that better than coming to see me at my sister in laws and wondering why I left! My poor little Sweet Pea.

Decided to Have a Stapedectomy and Looking for Encouragement/Experiences with the Surgery

My loss has increased in just 2 months so not so keen on waiting any longer and I am very thankful for the help I have. It will be under general anaesthesia. my son loves for me to pick him up and will probably be upset that I won’t but I will explain to him as best I can. I definitely...

Decided to Have a Stapedectomy and Looking for Encouragement/Experiences with the Surgery

Yes your hearing loss was worst and when it becomes so bad it’s difficult to live with it. mine is not bad but it is starting to be noticeable to me. I never heard that it was best to do let the otosclerosis evolve before doing the operation; what’s the reasoning behind that? I would have...

Decided to Have a Stapedectomy and Looking for Encouragement/Experiences with the Surgery

I’m so sorry it went so terribly wrong for you it’s awful to be on the remoter side of the statistics. My ENT said that it is important to take into consideration this possibility no matter how small and to go into it knowing and accepting the risks. All this is so hard. How bad was your...

Decided to Have a Stapedectomy and Looking for Encouragement/Experiences with the Surgery

I still have not been scheduled but hoping for it to be soon. I had a CT scan but nothing showed up and I had an MRI too to rule out other issues. I read that this does not mean it’s not Otosclerosis but would something not show up if there was sensorineural hearing loss? I’m afraid my...

Decided to Have a Stapedectomy and Looking for Encouragement/Experiences with the Surgery

Hi Greg thanks so much for your feedback. I remember you saying in response to my first post intruding myself that your surgery did not get rid of tinnitus, but did it at least make it better? You mention there is a fairly high chance of getting some minor high frequency sensorineural losses...

Decided to Have a Stapedectomy and Looking for Encouragement/Experiences with the Surgery

I was diagnosed with Otosclerosis and after my second audiogram my hearing loss has gotten worse after just two months in both ears (though I only have tinnitus in one) and so I have decided to go for the stapedectomy in the most affected ear. Has anyone has one and could you give me some...

My Tinnitus Started a Week Ago — ENT Suspects Otosclerosis

Yes that’s why time is of the essence if I do have it. The wait is killing me but I need to stay positive for my two year old and four month old. I really know nothing on the subject but was reading up on cochlear implants but I guess that would only make hearing better, not get rid of T. I...

My Tinnitus Started a Week Ago — ENT Suspects Otosclerosis

Thanks for taking a look and for your advice and encouragement I am really hoping that it is Oto (can’t believe I’m wishing I have something a disease; this tinnitus is evil) and at least I can have a chance for it it to maybe go away. You and others on here are so brave, I only hope I can be...

Yes I definitely see what you mean and you are indeed right so I take on the approach of taking all the hits of information I can from doctors, google, holistic therapies, people in forums such as this and my own common sense to be as correctly informed as possible. it’s a tough road I seems...

My Tinnitus Started a Week Ago — ENT Suspects Otosclerosis

Why do you say that? I don’t know but from what I have researched, the audiogram and tests he performed are what is standard to come to this possible conclusion and he did say he suspected it could this but needed a scan to confirm it. I live in Switzerland and doctors are very good and...

My Tinnitus Started a Week Ago — ENT Suspects Otosclerosis

So far I am keeping the fight or flight mode at bay through meditation which is something I have done for years now and I have been going to sleep early and trying to use my noise to lull me to sleep all the while pushing the negative thoughts consciously away. I fear though that this is only...

My Tinnitus Started a Week Ago — ENT Suspects Otosclerosis

My tinnitus started a week ago today and I started to get some serious anxiety over it but have managed to calm myself for now. I am totally new to this but have read up a lot in the past week and am trying to be positive. I am 43 and have a 2 year old boy and a 4 month old girl and it’s for...
