Maybe Dr. Karl Koehler would be interesting, if he could explain his research in a way that is accessible to non-experts. He does interviews/podcasts.

“Tips” for Listening to Speakers, Talking on the Phone, Watching TV, etc?

For my job, I have to talk on the phone and use my laptop for virtual meetings a lot. I noticed the high-pitched noise of the speakers triggers my hyperacusis. Does anyone have any “tips” to help with this? Are there special speakers I should use? I already stopped using a phone headset, and I...

Is There Such Thing as *Too Much* Masking / Sound Enrichment?

Slowly. Gradually. Over the course of a few days. When I noticed the white noise machine was causing my tinnitus, I stopped using it immediately and slept in a silent room. My tinnitus then went away after a few days. I starting using the machine again a few months later. Predictably, my...

Steroids: Prednisone / Dexamethasone / Others (Oral and Intratympanic Injections)

Does anyone know of a study comparing prednisone to placebo? Or comparing prednisone to supplements? My ENT doctor gave me a 7-day prescription for prednisone (specifically, "methylprednisolone" aka "Medrol"). I am trying to weigh the potential benefits of prednisone against the potential...

    Suicidal

My hearing was damaged by an MRI also. There should have been better procedures in place to prevent against hearing damage during the MRI. I plan to make a complaint to the FDA so that the clinics and MRI manufacturers will create better procedures to prevent hearing damage. See my post history.

Possible Acoustic Trauma After a "Quiet Suite" MRI Scan?

My tinnitus was caused by an MRI, too. When I get some spare time (maybe in a few months?) I plan to make a complaint to the FDA. Will you stick around this website so I can get info from you when I make the complaint? I work in the medical device industry, so I think I know how to make a...

Tinnitus After Severe Noise Injury (Woman Screaming at the Top of Her Lungs Close to My Ears)

Is it possible to get a prednisone prescription without an audiogram showing hearing loss? I am having terrible tinnitus and ear pain, but the audiologists said they don't prescribe prednisone unless there is hearing loss.

Doctor Says I Don't Qualify for Prednisone Because I Don't Have Hearing Loss Along with My Tinnitus

I had noise exposure about a week ago, and had an audiogram today. I do not have hearing loss, but my tinnitus is very bad. The tinnitus is at about the same volume as driving in a car, but it is very high pitched. I've had tinnitus before, but never at this volume, and it always went away...
