Ototoxicity (Aminoglycosides, in Particular Gentamicin) and Tinnitus

Hi all, I had a cystoscopy yesterday and it was only when I was on the operating table that the anaesthetist told me he was going to be give me an antibiotic. When I asked which one because I had tinnitus, he said Gentamicin and gave it to me anyway. Currently I don't feel like it has worsened...

    Antibiotics? Tinnitus Spikes?

No I didn’t get my tinnitus from Doxycycline, but a recent encounter with Doxycycline caused my tinnitus to spike and it took a good 3 months to calm down. Then in November I went to a loud club and my new earplugs didn’t fit properly and protect me as they should, so that spiked my tinnitus...

Are AirPods Pro Safe for NON-Noise-Induced Tinnitus?

OMG, I got the new AirPods Pro 2’s and even from the setting up process they badly spiked my tinnitus - I now have a strange ear pressure feeling in my left ear so I’m sending them back. These things are dangerous and should be avoided at all costs!

    Delayed Reaction to Noise Exposure?

Thanks for your insight Michael, my onset was probably triggered by too much going to loud nightclubs, although having said that, my uncle lives like a monk and yet also has tinnitus. I guess the question is what do I do now? My GP is sending me to an audiologist and I’m wondering if I should...

I’ve been to the club before and it’s been ok but this was the first time with filtered ear plugs and one didn’t fit properly. I usually have a hiss type tinnitus but this is now more tonal and has not settled. It’s been just over a fortnight now :-(

Why Does ETD (Eustachian Tube Dysfunction) Take So Long to Heal?

I have I'm relieved to say. I think it took me a good 3+ months, but habituation has kicked in thank goodness so now I can sleep again without listening to sounds on my phone much to my significant relief. Why Does ETD (Eustachian Tube Dysfunction) Take So Long to Heal?

Thanks, I will try that! I saw another ENT today and they insisted on giving me microsuction on my right ear. I didn't enjoy the experience, I also think it's made my tinnitus slightly worse.

Why Does ETD (Eustachian Tube Dysfunction) Take So Long to Heal?

Nothing yet I'm afraid. I'm coming to terms with the worsening but strangely a hearing test showed some mild hearing loss in the 4 - 8 kHz range, but not in the higher frequencies which are supposed to go fast, so if Doxycycline was the cause, why did it hit the mid range, I wonder?

Why Does ETD (Eustachian Tube Dysfunction) Take So Long to Heal?

Similar issue - I took antibiotics, Doxycycline, and the pressure in my ears, most specifically my left ear, changed (later found out it went negative). I have uncomfortable ear pressure, lots of popping all the time and some mild ear pain at times. Significant increase in the loudness of my...

Thiamine Pyrophosphate (TPP) Stopped My Tinnitus!

Yes very much so. I have Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and I think physically there are issues (I can change the tinnitus pitch by opening my jaw wide or moving my head far left). My tinnitus is spiked by medication; most recently Doxycycline. And so I think it's part head and part ears.

Metronidazole Has Spiked Tinnitus Like Crazy — Will It Go Away?

Hey all. I recently took Metronidazole for a water infection, 5 days, 400mg twice a day. At the time my tinnitus didn’t seem too affected but progressively it has spiked my tinnitus to the point now it’s the worst it’s ever been. It's been two weeks since finishing the course now.
