The Effects of Cigarette Smoking on Hyperacusis

I smoke tobacco rarely through a pipe and I do inhale. When I do, I notice my ear problems do increase but slightly and for not long. The tinnitus is louder but easier to ignore, the hyperacusis is much harder to ignore, and the fullness increases. Pain can sometimes get worse but sometimes be...

    Pain Hyperacusis Recovery Rate?

I’ve read multiple accounts of people having their hyperacusis “cured” in the ear affected. Again, the surgery is a destruction of what causes you to detect noise. As far as I know hyperacusis involves noise being louder than normal, distorted, and cause pain. If the noise can’t be detected then...

    Pain Hyperacusis Recovery Rate?

Again I think this has to be looked at different from normal deafness. This is a complete destruction of everything that allows you to comprehend sound. If the tinnitus is in the ear itself and doesn’t have to do with the brain then this should cure it theoretically. I’ve read things that for...

Neck/Face/Jaw Aching Real Bad Since Onset of Tinnitus

Possibly nerve damage or pain hyperacusis spreading throughout your neck and jaw. The jaw popping is alarming however. Go see an ENT and make sure they examine your jaw. Maybe have an MRI or X-ray done.

Bad Dysacusis / Distortions — Manageable Tinnitus: A 19-Year-Old Guy Suffering for Two Months

Time for another update as things have once again changed. So recently I’ve noticed my bad ear’s tinnitus is almost as low in volume as the other good ear. This is huge for the tinnitus in the other ear Is so low volume I never even noticed it before my incident. The bad ears ring is although...

    Pain Hyperacusis Recovery Rate?

As far as I am aware it completely gets rid of hyperacusis. Tinnitus is a 50/50 shot. If the tinnitus is 100% in the brain or nerve then it won’t help. If it’s specifically due to the hair cells then it will. The surgery is a total destruction of your inner ear. If there is no sound being...

    Pain Hyperacusis Recovery Rate?

Well in extremely severe cases I’ve seen reports of people undergoing labyrinthectomy surgery for hyperacusis. The surgery is normally done for very bad Ménière’s cases. It’s not exactly a cure but it does eliminate all symptoms. Just at a great cost for it completely deafens whatever ear they...

    Overprotection Recovery with Pain Hyperacusis

I’m pretty fresh in this. I have had my tinnitus for 2 1/4 months, pain hyperacusis started about 2 weeks into the tinnitus. After about a month of only using hearing protection when I noticed distortion, I started having my symptoms get severely worse to the point where the pain was...

Could My Tinnitus Be Caused by Earwax Blockage? How About Stress and Bad Sleep? Or Multiple Factors?

I have a buddy who began suffering tinnitus half a year ago. Nothing too bad and his tinnitus was first in 1 ear. Eventually it got to the point where is was stressing him out a ton. I told him that an ear infection he had earlier this year could be the cause. I also asked him to analyze both...

Bad Dysacusis / Distortions — Manageable Tinnitus: A 19-Year-Old Guy Suffering for Two Months

Recently I’ve actually taken up some vaping. I find the nicotine “high” somewhat similar to a THC high although it doesn’t last nearly as long (comparing seconds to hours). So while they both spike my symptoms, the nicotine high goes away so quickly that I do not mind it nearly as much. I have...

Bad Dysacusis / Distortions — Manageable Tinnitus: A 19-Year-Old Guy Suffering for Two Months

Yes I get all kinds of strange noise when I burp or yawn. It basically is my tinnitus spiking for a second. When I stop burping or yawning, the noises stop as well. Flexing my jaw a certain way has the same effect. When I’m drunk I notice a significant decrease in my symptoms. I would assume...

Bad Dysacusis / Distortions — Manageable Tinnitus: A 19-Year-Old Guy Suffering for Two Months

I think you may be on to something. Both SEH and Ménière’s sound very similar and the treatments seem to be the same. I will try to avoid salty and sugary foods. Recently I’ve had many more attacks (multiple a day) and they are increasingly violent I even vomited during one.

Unravelling the Mystery of Hyperacusis with Pain

This makes me think that destructive surgeries that induce deafness might actually destroy hyperacusis symptoms entirely. Obviously not a good idea for anyone with hyperacusis in both ears. But for those with it in just one ear, like me, I feel that it should be on the table.

I’d take the full online one. But I’d also not try to stay indoors all the time especially in your bedroom. Spending way too much time inside ain’t good for your sanity, I know how tempting it is with hyperacusis though. When you go out, use hearing protection.

Then it's simply just another symptom. Like for real, comments like yours do more harm than good. When you hear noise and the tinnitus competes with it, that’s reactive tinnitus... It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to understand that. I get what you are trying to say but man you come off like...

Well I’m a drummer and since getting dysacusis, tinnitus and hyperacusis in just 1 ear I’ve had to double protect that ear to even play my once beloved instrument. Before the incident that caused my problems I could play without any protection. But as far as listening to music, I can handle...

Describe the twang better... If I flex my jaw a certain way i hear my tinnitus loud as shit for a brief period. When I yawn I could see this flexing happening. Yawning kinda isolates it because I think when you yawn you partially open your eustachian tubes.

Can Drugs or Supplements Help Sound Distortions/Dysacusis?

Alcohol. Not the best solution and a shit one long term. But when I’m 1 shot in, I notice it less. 3 or more shots in, and I don’t notice it nearly as much. This has led me to drink multiple shots everyday for weeks at a time. Yeah, not a good thing. I don’t do that anymore. Now like every...

I have really noticeable distortion. I used to listen to lots of metal and some rock and jazz. At this point I can’t stand anything with high tones. Does Reactive Tinnitus Only Appear with Hyperacusis?

I have tinnitus and hyperacusis in only right ear from high pitched explosion. The pain is normally more bothersome than the ring for the ring is easy enough to mask with a fan, music, or a TV. It is reactive however, if I go play my drum kit with no hearing protection, the ring will be all I...
