Thank you all for your support. I am going to see if the MRA is necessary - or if the MRI (with the proper protocol, CISS) is enough. Or if they could be done separately.

@Damocles - Unfortunately I need a 3T and those are only "tubes". I've got foam plugs and silicone putty over that. We can't bring our own ear defenders so am stuck with what they provide. And they put sand bags up against those. LOL

@DeanD - yes, it's for the neuralgia. We need a 3T FIESTA or CISS MRI to better see compressions. All the "MVD" neurosurgeons will want that. I'm sorry you're going through this too. I do now question if the MRA portion is needed. That's 15 minutes of scan. Ugh. I'm sorry you are going...

@Strawberryblonde I may not be able to provide my own ear muffs -any they provide will be useless- and I may not be able to wear muffs anyway due to space/face cage. I’m calling MRI facilities this week. Fingers crossed. Thanks!

I have hearing aids but for hearing loss, not masking which is impossible. Tinnitus in NYC means wearing ear plugs outdoors 95% of the time and fewer subway trips. Not too bad really. I'm temporarily living in a quieter town (not because of tinnitus), and I can't wait to get back to NYC. I just...

I used crickets, but when those no longer worked, I turned to lower-pitch "babbling brook" sounds. Nothing high pitch to compete, but lower pitch to distract.

I flew recently. Used Earplanes, Peltor Optime III ear muffs, and paid extra for front-row first class seats. All good! My T is severe so I likely took more precautions than most.

I posted this when I realized I cannot see my favorite artist, who is playing two shows near me. I've never missed a show. Recalling his past concerts (and yes, the bass that resounds and transports me...sigh!) brought out anger and frustration.

Hard to say for sure, but I would say it did not. There were other issues later on that I believe did have a lasting impact. That said, I hope I don't need anesthesia anytime soon.

I agree with @Taw that you should ask about a CT scan. They may need the dye (not sure if it's the same as for an MRI), but at least it's not five sledgehammers firing in your ears. Best of luck to you.

Oh man... When was your last one? When this happens to me (and it will b/c of my medical history), I will push back. Hypothetically, what if I had a metal implant and could not have an MRI? There has to be an alternative for those individuals.

After a year of Covid quarantine, etc., I'm having difficulty getting used to "normal" noise and activity levels. It all seems so loud and overwhelming now. Perhaps you are experiencing that, too?
