Thank you! I have had two Pfizer jabs, and this type of information is exactly why I am not getting a booster shot. Its just not worth the risk of making my tinnitus worse. I am far from an anti-vaxxer.
People at the company where I work that did not want to take the vaccine are now being laid...
I think you want to get the earwax removed somehow, either manually by an ENT or use one of the over the counter liquids to soften it up and do it that way gradually.
It is still very early days for you and it will very likely get better.
I've had many temporary spikes along the way caused by...
13% of the placebo group gained a benefit by healing naturally. Definitely showing some promise.
Only 31 patients though, so it's really hard to draw any definitive conclusions...
Your standard laptop microphones suck. Get a conference microphone. You can get one on Amazon for < $30. Since my tinnitus started that's all I've been using with no complaints. Better safe than sorry in the beginning.
5 weeks in and my hyperacusis somehow improved significantly in the last few days. The volume of my tinnitus has also reduced. Its still there constantly though. I felt some sharp pain in my ears occasionally last week, not sure what that was about.
Maybe this is just temporary, or I'm on the...
I am in a high-pressure technical position for a Fortune 50 company. I am running again, I meditate - something I have never done before. The key to me seems to be to get a good nights sleep. So yeah I in some ways tinnitus is forcing me to make healthier choices. I still have days where I where...
I can also relate. I am 3 weeks into this so I do not have answers for you. But I think you'll find that the people for whom it got significantly better, or who habituated, are probably not still hanging out on these forums.
You could try one of these, be very careful of course:

In my experience it can be lot more gentle than if you go to an ENT. The camera is pretty good.
I'm thinking about testing out a hearing aid as well after reading a thread here. I have some hearing loss around 4000 Hz, not enough to warrant a hearing aid by itself. But if it somehow helps/masks my tinnitus, I'll gladly pay whatever it costs.
My tinnitus is around 6400 Hz, its a steady...
That's kind of vague. What pleasure mechanisms? Maybe Tinnitus Mix is not so crazy, isn't this the same thing? Who's to say they have the magic formula.
Out of 74 subjects, not bad.
Yeah it would. I probably would do it if it was near me though.
Wife wants me to go see an ENT who specializes in tinnitus an hour away recommended by someone, but I'm not sure if there's any point in seeing another one. There's nothing he'll be able to do anyway. But maybe I'll go just to appease her.
I feel a lot more tired than before, I think my brain...
Thanks for the suggestions! Looks like the real deal, not what I was finding. There are Westone and Sensaphonics dealers near me. I'm scheduling an appointment tomorrow, thanks again!
I'm not going to try the Tinnitus Mix, I got sucked into reading the thread with a few beverages in me, and the thought of some magical sound that could fix my tinnitus started to sound appealing :) But yeah that whole thing is kind of nutty.
@star-affinity, there's something about that stupid...
I know it's hard right now but you are very very young, you''ll figure out what the cause is or your brain will adjust and you'll learn to cope and move on eventually. And you're young enough that some cure or medical way to improve the condition is very likely to arrive and make a difference.
Man I hope so! It could be a that Apex just pushed me over the edge. I've worked in noisy environments in the past, I think longevity of noise exposure is a factor also.
Do you go back to an ENT to get it tested all the time, or can you do it online yourself somewhere?
My tinnitus is a steady...
Just to follow up.
Met with an ENT, he had an audiologist do a test and I have some hearing loss starting around 4000 Hz, which is consistent with being exposed to loud noises apparently. Not terrible hearing loss, but the hearing level (? not sure what was on the Y axis) just dipped below...
Another fascinating thread on Tinnitus Talk. This forum is interesting to say the least... not sure what to think of this one. Who knew getting tinnitus would expose me to all of this :)
What are the Sony noise-cancelling headphones that have worked with Tinnitus Mix, David? I have the MX3. I...
Thanks for the warning about the test guys! I would not have thought to ask the ENT not to run any tests, very much appreciated!!!
Yep Apex was fun, but not worth it if this is the price I have to pay :)
Unfortunately I think it's the Prednisone that is toning down the tinnitus, when I wake up...
I am much newer to this than you are. But from what I can gather, you're still in the early phases. A lot of the people for whom it passes, do not stick around on the forums I bet. Best of luck to you!
Updating this because I find it helpful to read the progression of others.
I went to the urgent care, and one of my ears had a decent amount of wax buildup. They tried to clear it, but wasn't able to.
I did it myself a day later using one of these...
Thanks!
Apex, lots of high pitch sounds.
I'm trying to get someone to prescribe me Prednisone, I think it has to be done at the early onset (?), and I'm running out of time. I found this study:
Differences between acoustic trauma and other types of acute noise-induced hearing loss in terms of...
I am done with headphones, I will be babying these ears as much as I can from now on. I know you guys are probably tired of getting the same questions again and again, but it's hard to not freak out!
Thank you so much Michael, a lot of great information there!
Still working my way through this forum, lots of information here. A lot of scary stories here... depression etc.
Should I try to get prescribed some steroids (Prednisone) now somehow? Or is that only for unexplained tinnitus?
My first ENT appointment is in 9 days. Will it be too late then?
I have worn my noise-cancelling Sony headphones this past year pretty much constantly. I am in my 40's, work from home (IT) since the beginning of COVID-19, lots of meetings etc. during the day. This past Wednesday I noticed a sharp pain followed by a high pitched ringing in both my ears after...
