Ears Tense Up in Reaction to Certain Sounds: Is This Hyperacusis?

That's how my hyperacusis and tinnitus started, and I still do not know what exactly happened to me or my ears. It all started with muscle contractions in my middle ear to some sounds—coins, keys, dishes, etc. In the beginning, there was no tinnitus or hyperacusis. In the following weeks...

Extreme Hyperacusis and Tinnitus — Noises Trigger Dizziness and Panic

I'm in a MUCH better place right now. My right ear feels completely normal on some days. On bad days it still has LDLs around 90-100 dB. My left ear is a little worse, hard to say, but I think the biggest problem here is TTTS. The muscles in my ear are responding to nearly everything. So the...

Hyperacusis Is Not Always Permanent: After 6 Months of CBT and TRT, I'm Back to My Noisy Job

Hey @sjtinguy, are you still okay? Working on your noisy job?

Hey @sjtinguy, in one of your posts you wrote about TTTS Symptoms. Did you also had those echo-like thumping after clicky sounds or after talking? I press on a lightswitch, and immediately after that, my eardrum makes a click, too. Are those symptoms better?

Hyperacusis Opinion: We Should Be Focusing Less on Regenerative Medicine and More on the Brain

We cannot prove that it's a brain-thing, but I think so, too. I know so many people with severe hearing loss from abusing ears over decades, but none of them has hyperacusis. Not even slightly. My father is a hunter, and he has many friends in his hunting community. Many of them have severe...

You know what caused your setback? I dont think that its sound for me. And i dont think it’s damaged ears. I get better and worse for absolutely no reason. My first bigger setback was in/after a traumatic/emotional moment..

Things have changed. The Dizziness is gone. I can tolerate louder sounds pretty good most of the time, but when im in silence, even minor clicky sounds aggravate TTTS symptoms. Thats so bad.

Extreme Hyperacusis and Tinnitus — Noises Trigger Dizziness and Panic

Yes, definitely. When my hyperacusis got better and I started showering and using the hair dryer again, the tinnitus always spiked for a few minutes after that. That reactivity got way better, too.

Extreme Hyperacusis and Tinnitus — Noises Trigger Dizziness and Panic

Yeah, it's definitely a psychological thing. My hyperacusis started at a very stressful time with lots of anxiety. Maybe it's „just“ a muscle thing caused by stress and anxiety. I don't know. I have an appointment with a TMJ guy today.

Extreme Hyperacusis and Tinnitus — Noises Trigger Dizziness and Panic

Update and Question: Hello everyone, a lot has happened since I last posted here. In the weeks and months leading up to the beginning of May, my ears improved dramatically. Day by day I was able to tolerate more and especially louder noises until I finally felt totally normal again. Loud music...

I’m Getting Bad Hyperacusis After Using Earbuds

It may be that studies have not yet been able to prove this, but my experience definitely says otherwise. My hyperacusis and tinnitus both developed during the most stressful time of my life and the hyperacusis really exploded after a heated argument. A friend of mine (60+) never had tinnitus...

Extreme Hyperacusis and Tinnitus — Noises Trigger Dizziness and Panic

Another update: Guys, I don't know what to say... It happened again last night. Within a second, all the tinnitus sounds had disappeared from the face of the earth, then reappeared over the next few minutes. Again quieter than before. This morning I was able to watch a whole hour of TV, at a...

Extreme Hyperacusis and Tinnitus — Noises Trigger Dizziness and Panic

Update: Tinnitus is a strange thing. Last night I walked a few kilometres through the snow (oh God did that feel good. No traffic noise in the night, the snow also absorbs a lot of sound). I did it with earplugs, removed one for a few minutes in my good ear. Then, on the way back home...

Hyperacusis Has Improved Significantly in a Span of Almost 2 Years

Thank you @ZFire for this great success story! Stories like this are the only thing that gives me hope at the moment, provides motivation and strengthens me mentally! I have a few questions: How did your hyperacusis start? Was it "only" a loud event or something like this? Or were there...

Extreme Hyperacusis and Tinnitus — Noises Trigger Dizziness and Panic

Hello @Lane, thank you so much for your reply. What they did was an IGM/IGG antibody test and now I have the results: both are negative. I don't know what that means...

Extreme Hyperacusis and Tinnitus — Noises Trigger Dizziness and Panic

A real discussion has developed here, very nice! I wanted to give a quick update: my "good" right ear is 5-10% better today than yesterday. I was able to watch 30 minutes of TV at the lowest volume. Left ear still terrible. Tinnitus screams very loudly. Bad news: it could be Lyme disease, I...

Extreme Hyperacusis and Tinnitus — Noises Trigger Dizziness and Panic

Thank you @Michael Leigh and @SashaG for the quick response. I think the next months will be the hardest time of my life, with LDLs arround > 30. I am happy about every success story that is still posted here. Especially if it also started with such low LDLs :)

Extreme Hyperacusis and Tinnitus — Noises Trigger Dizziness and Panic

Hello everyone, I am still quite new here, I have already read a lot, but have not yet spoken up myself. I have been suffering from tinnitus and extreme hyperacusis for a few weeks. I can't really identify a specific trigger, but I have been listening to podcasts and music through headphones...
