@billie48 I've been looking into possibly making a career change that could accommodate my circumstances better. Not sure if there are any jobs outside the home that won't have some risk involved though. But maybe I could try to find a job that I could do remotely from home in a quieter environment.

@billie48 Also, were you working a job while dealing with the severe reactive T and H? Right now, I'm not working. I miss doing it but I worry about possibly making the T and H worse by going back to work.

@billie48 I'm glad to hear you are doing fine and enjoying life. Do you think it's better to expose to normal sounds or isolate in a quiet room while wearing ear muffs/plugs as much as possible for recovery/healing?

@billie48 Hi, how are you currently doing? Was your tinnitus ever reactive and if so, did the reactivity go away over time? Did the tinnitus also reduce in severity at the same time your hyperacusis improved? Did you ever have ear aches with your hyperacusis? Thanks

    Going Insane from Tinnitus?

I have some questions for you. After your acoustic traumas, were you working a job during your recovery/healing periods? Were you exposing yourself to normal sounds still? Or did you decide to overprotect and isolate in a quiet room with earmuffs/earplugs most of the time? Was your tinnitus ever...

@Moni97 Watching TV with no sound, reading, etc. Making adjustments and trying to keep myself busy/distracted. I think this is the best method. Allowing the ears to heal and then at some point trying to slowly re introduce normal sounds again.

@Moni97 I am still early into my healing/recovery period but I have also decided to go the overprotection route for now. I've been wearing either ear muffs or plugs as much as possible and staying in my house most of the day.

@Moni97 I read that you decided to wear 24/7 ear protection and stay in quiet room as much as possible. Are you still doing that now? Now that you are longer into your recovery period, is that something you would still recommend doing?

@Moni97 Specifically about the very reactive T and H. Mine also seemed to react to almost every sound, including internal sounds like chewing, swallowing, etc. It was so sensitive even something like putting clothes on and walking seemed to spike it too.

@Jerad But I've also noticed that if I wear ear protection for a long time and then take them off, everything seems to be louder and more sensitive than it usually is, so maybe that's also what's contributing to the oversensitivity I'm experiencing?

@Jerad If I understand the terms correctly, it sounds like I probably have both. The ear ache suggests pain H and the oversensitivity to sounds would suggest loudness H too? Certain sounds like cutlery clinking plates or mugs, etc are uncomfortable for me.

Hearing Loss and Severe Tinnitus — From Loving Life to Suicidal in 2 Months

What would you recommend for extreme cases of reactive tinnitus and hyperacusis? It sounds like you would advise to avoid normal sound exposure, correct?
