Loudness Hyperacusis, Followed by Pain Hyperacusis (Noxacusis)

I just oiled two creaky doors that had been annoying me for weeks. It took one minute—I wish I’d done it earlier. I didn’t have any other oil, so I used extra virgin olive oil. (Yes, really!) I’ve been thinking about how you approach DNSR after exposure. For example, when you hear the sound of...

Loudness Hyperacusis, Followed by Pain Hyperacusis (Noxacusis)

Hi @Lorna46, Thanks for your response. I love your post. Despite your difficulties, you remain so positive. I try my best to stay positive too, but I often have sad thoughts throughout the day and forget to do the “stop stop stop” or retrain myself. It is a shame we cannot connect directly to...

Loudness Hyperacusis, Followed by Pain Hyperacusis (Noxacusis)

@Lorna46, I’m so sorry no one has responded to you. I’m in the same boat. I have a 6-year-old, and I won’t be able to attend things like family meals outside, her nativity play, or a visit to Santa. However, I’ve made a list of activities we can do together at home. Currently, after school, we...

Still Alive and Doing Better! Hyperacusis and Pain Have Reduced by About 75%!

That’s great—I’m dealing with the same issue. Does this mean you can now start TRT treatment? For example, do you listen to low-level music or other background sounds, and has it helped?

NeuroMed Tinnitus Program — Founded by Dr. Hamid Djalilian

I’m sorry you haven’t seen any improvement; it can take some time. May I ask what your symptoms are? I’m tempted to try Topiramate, as it is an actual migraine medication, and the theory behind it makes sense to me. Do you know why they haven’t suggested that one yet?

Tinnitus After Hitting Head in Attic

Hi @MindOverMatter, I wanted to get your opinion on something. I know everyone's experiences are different, but I am asking out of concern. I developed hyperacusis and reactive tinnitus after a DJ party, and then had a second setback when my house alarm went off. That was two months ago. Since...

Can Overprotection Have Caused My Musical Tinnitus?

Yes, I have musical tinnitus, but it is not due to social isolation or hearing loss. It has been proven that musical tinnitus can be caused by living alone, as your ears receive no stimulation. So, if you have been wearing earplugs indoors and living in complete silence, then yes, there is a...
