So Sleep Deprived, Are Drugs the Answer for Now?

This may not be for everyone, but I just had my first session with a cognitive behavioral therapist who specializes in sleep disorders and tinnitus. I'm going to be working with her each week on becoming less reactive to noise at night, more accepting of sleeping without my ear plugs, and also...

I Feel Like I Just Got Tinnitus All Over Again. Sounds Are Distorted to Me Now.

Ill post something over in the docs corner. It sucks that even pink noise or brown noise causes a distortion in my hearing. Very odd.

I Feel Like I Just Got Tinnitus All Over Again. Sounds Are Distorted to Me Now.

Sorry to hear that MattK. I just wish I could at least listen to white noise or a fan without hearing a distortion. One more thing to deal with. Not what I needed to say the least.

I Feel Like I Just Got Tinnitus All Over Again. Sounds Are Distorted to Me Now.

Hey guys, I just realized a couple of days ago that the sound of a fan, brown noise, even rain doesn't sound like it once did to me. I'm trying to find a noise at night that I can have in my bedroom that will help me sleep, but when I put anything on, except for maybe chanting, I hear this...

So Sleep Deprived, Are Drugs the Answer for Now?

By some miracle I actually got an appointment with a phsychiatrist today. He prescribed lexapro 5mg a day and Avitan 1mg at bedtime to get my anxiety under control so I can sleep better. The Avitan is a short term bridge to get to where the Lexapro takes effect. What do you guys think of those...

So Sleep Deprived, Are Drugs the Answer for Now?

What I meant was that white noise should e a constant sound, just like brown noise, pink noise, etc. however when I listen to it I hear the constant noise, but also a variable noise that comes and goes. Same thing with fans. It's really weird. Makes the sounds not soothing.

So Sleep Deprived, Are Drugs the Answer for Now?

Well I just tried my fan again as well as a sound pillow and whenever I put it in its not a constant noise. I thought whitenoise was a consistent noise. When I listen to it I hear a variable whirl every 5 seconds, with other sounds as well. What the hell is going on with me?

How long do you guys think I'll get use to noise in my room or aroun my house. Should I force myself to get use to te noise of a fan or rainfall, etc? All noise annoys me right now so I'm wondering if I should go ahead and just make myself get use to a sound. Don't find anything within right...

So Sleep Deprived, Are Drugs the Answer for Now?

Sure did, my dreams were pretty interesting. I don't know how long a person should be on melatonin since it does alter your sleep a bit. At least it does with me.

I did melatonin and it makes it easier to go to sleep. However I didn't find that it kept me asleep. Still woke up in the middle of the night. Maybe try the slow release ones.

Physically you definitely feel better, mentally it helps you not be so irritable and have mood swings all day. Still in the back of my head I'm pissed I have to take meds to sleep. Bugs me, never had to before in my life and wham here I am popping Xanax's. At a certain point though you can't...

Rube, sorry to hear you are in the same state im in. Its lonely as hell to wake up like that and stare at the ceiling the rest of the night. I took some valerian root and a pill of 5-htp last night. Slept from 12 to 2, woke up and popped a Xanax. Slept on and off for 6 more hours. At this...

So Sleep Deprived, Are Drugs the Answer for Now?

My sleep hygiene has gotten better. I have given up drinking caffeine past that first cup in the morning, I head up to bed at the same time each night now, no TV in bed. I have tried Tylenol pm, works but makes me groggy. I just grabbed a valerian root supplement tonight that has a lot of...

So Sleep Deprived, Are Drugs the Answer for Now?

Hey Everyone, It's been a hard month since the T hit me, the worst has been the inability to sleep. I get like 3 or 4 hours a night now. I'm at the point where I'm tired all the time and have fits of crying. Not to mention the anxiety. I find that the sounds of a fan, white noise, brown noise...

Hey guys, Well I'm happy to report that I have now slept three nights with no ear plugs. They weren't great nights of sleep, got between 4 to 6 hours each night, but its a step in the right direction. Adjusting to all the noises out there has been rough, things wake me up. I did get a pillow...

Xanax Withdrawal. What Has Been Your Experience?

My doctor prescribed Xanax when I saw him 4 days ago. I tried to talk him out of it and asked about alternatives like Rozerem or maybe a small course of Ambien. He didn't want to listen. My stress and anxiety over T is due to me not being about to sleep. I love quiet to sleep, but now I have...

    Almost 4 Months In

I'm with you on the sleep pills, I don't want sleep medication like Ambien or Lunesta. That stuff is not good for anyone. I know it will make you sleep and its technically not physically addictive, but you'll become addicted to them mentally real fast. The whole, "I can't sleep without...

Feeling Horrible. My Situation Is Pretty Unique. Please Help!

Well I thought I'd update everyone on what occurred last night. I'm happy to report that for the first time in 18 years I slept without ear plugs in. Its pretty strange to say that but it actually happened. Now I did have to take a xanax to calm down my anxiety, so I didn't do it unmedicated...

LadyDi, Thanks for the suggestions, I didn't realize anxiety would also keep me from sleeping, but it makes perfect sense. I'm way out of balance on how I feel, even depressed, which is not me at all. I did order a sound machine today in an effort to get rid of the ear plugs at night. I feel...

It definitely does, which is what I'm dealing with now. I don't relish using the plugs anymore thanks to T, but its rough breaking a 18 year sleeping habit. Still haven't been able to go a full night without the plugs. Wondering if maybe a sleep aid, plus no plugs will help me adjust.

Nick, That is especially helpful for me. I was hoping I might find someone who has gone through this. I take it my brain will eventually adjust. How did you adjust to the background noise with out coming to hate it if you don't mind me asking? I'm worried that background noise will simply...

Feeling Horrible. My Situation Is Pretty Unique. Please Help!

Thanks, I think I've reached the point where I'm angry at the ear plugs and don't relish the thought of using them. I was really upset last night about it which is of course not conducive to sleep. I did try last night but my goodness I started having trouble breathing for some odd reason...

Blair14, Thanks for the reply. I feel like such a baby complaining about my situation since I know many people have T that is intrusive to their entire day. Help! Getting Suicidal

Hey Everyone, I feel like I'm going crazy, which I take it is pretty normal for the first months of developing T. I think to some degree I've had T for a while, but it was so mild I never noticed. Then all of a sudden last month, Aug 9th to be exact, I developed a high pitch whine that only...
