Can Tinnitus Really Go Away or Is It a Myth?

Well, in my experience no. But if your permanently at a 2/3 on your scale. That's pretty solid. Usually that type of noise damage is unfortunately permanent.. I had mine blown at a show as kid, wasn't aware of ear plugs. I always keep them on to keep it a manageable level for me. It works.

Went to a Concert Last Night — My Left Ear Is Relentless Today

Metal bands are extremely loud. I wear the 33 db plugs and muffs. Also depends on the band...I wouldn't wear anything less, I go frequent enough. Even the bands not playing ridiculously loud I hear just fine. I'd say, screw the musician plugs. The best protection is a deeply inserted foam...

    Another Concert Post

I've had tinnitus for over a decade.. been to dozen of metal shows(I mean real hardcore death metal in small venues) I've personally been fine wearing the foam plugs properly inserted and when I feel it is too loud I put the muffs over, which usually dampens the bass a tad. Though to be honest I...

Tinnitus Distractions — What Do You Like to Do to Keep Distracted from Your Tinnitus?

I always find doing stuff I enjoy masks it pretty well even when I should be hearing it.. I love lifting weights, lol the gym is noisy so I wouldn't hear it anyways. But, on the quiter side, I love to draw and read and I don't notice it the unless I look for it. I play guitar and listen to a lot...

Shooting with Ear Protection, Still Possible Damage?

I suppose, but I don't see why you can't just limit yourself if you still enjoy it to maybe a round and just keep your protection on while others are shooting. I doubt your shooting around for hours on end.

Shooting with Ear Protection, Still Possible Damage?

If you didn't notice anything I say your fine. Anxiety only makes it worse. It's only a few shots and with double protection I wouldn't worry.

    Ringing Is Driving Me Crazy...

It really does take a long time, took me about a year and every time it spikes I have to get used to it again.

    Any Concert Lovers?

Yeah I noticed certain bands play extra loud. Bfmv doesn't surprise me, it is probably because their music isn't very good. I've seen 5 smaller, yet well known death metal bands last year and they sure didn't crank it, I don't even think I had inserted my plugs properly (but i wear muffs over...

    Any Concert Lovers?

I understand that! I am always too tired, only exception is for a favorite band, so one or two a year. I never tried the musician plugs, I don't mind the foamies (guess that saves me money at least)

    Any Concert Lovers?

My doctor told me foam are better. I wear the 33 db ones, and I still enjoy it, and I wear the muffs over it. I think it is so loud you really can't kill the sound. If you wear the muffs over them, you muffle the sound a lot, because I think it blocks the lows a lot more, but I don't find it...

    Any Concert Lovers?

It was super loud, but foam plugs are great and I wear muffs over them..personally though I think the foams plugs alone would have been fine.

Yes. I have to wear plugs or it will ring louder for a week or so.

    Concert Tonight... Advice?

I bet! It seems like the metalcore scene tends to be louder than the death shows I have been to. Maybe it's an age thing and the younger bands play a hell of a lot louder.. Did you wear any plugs?? Yeah, I got mine from a show I went to with a friend. I only cared for the main act, but we went...

    Concert Tonight... Advice?

Yes, I have done that with the past two shows I wanted to attend.I just have a lot of anxiety lately with my ears and I ended up not going. Metalcore did me in as well. I didn't notice anything after. My first show was pagan fest last feb. And I saw four bands, went to a smaller venue later and...

What Works for Sound Sensitivity/Acoustic Trauma from Loud Music?

7 years. I think k it got better, after a few months initially. Had flare ups when I was learning how to protect my hearing, but with rest it died back down. It never will subside, I just learned how to deal with hearing constant noise and hope it doesn't get any worse.

    Ear Plugs Help Needed

My remedy for concerts Cheap 33 db foam(I use hearos, but any other are fine) and 3m earmuffs. Yeah, it looks embarrassing but after you put them on and the show starts you forget about it. Stand in the back and not the front. \m/

In-Ear Monitors versus Musicians Ear Plugs

I love my hearos foam plugs, but i am not a musician. They are great for loud shows, which I think are to loud to start. My ent said the the molded plugs weren't any better than the foam ones. Audiologist tells you that so he can make money more than likely. I guess less overall protection for...

    Concert Tonight... Advice?

Same cause for my tinnitus.. I have been two extreme metal shows in the past year in small venues. I wore heearos extreme foam plugs and 3m ear muffs. Both whic are 33 db reduction, thought the effect is not additive. Stay in the back away from the speaker. I would personally say those are...

Guitar Players or Any Instrument :)

I agree, it is crazy. I love music, guess not many others do as well. It is a lot safer to play your own music, even imitating the styles of your favorite musicians is fun.

Guitar Players or Any Instrument :)

Electric is great loud for full distortion, but I find I can enjoy it at low volumes. Actually my acoustic being strummed is louder then when I put it on a more metal setting with a higher gain and volume, though I still use dual ear protection for anything over 70 db. I try to keep the amp...

For What Situations Do You Wear Earplugs? And How Has Your Tinnitus Progressed?

I only go about once a year, but I probably might wear them if I see an action flick. My ears aren't to bad at them.

Safe to Have Earbuds In, Low Volume?

I think so, I keep mine on a notch or two and haven't noticed a problem. Though i think investing in some noise canceling over the ear ones are best.

    Studying With Earplugs?

It's annoying, I agree. I had to study in the coffee shop area, it had some foot traffic and a little noise which was good at masking the tinnitus, but not enough to distract me. I am pretty good at tunning mine out, so I didn't have much of a problem even when I did notice it on the quite part...

    Headphones/Headsets

Not sure you can get accurate decibels like that..anyways I keep mine on the lowest volume setting as possible and can still hear it fine. Use over the ear ones, not the buds..noise canceling is best if you can afford it.

For What Situations Do You Wear Earplugs? And How Has Your Tinnitus Progressed?

Bars and loud restaurants I wear plugs Football games plugs Concerts plugs and muffs Jamming on guitar plugs, muffs, or both depending Used to wear them at the movies, but I only do that now if the volume is really loud.

    Changing Volume Every Second

My one ear always changes pitch and volume constantly, it is almost like it has two tones going at once. My other ear is pretty consistently one tone.. I think my tone changing ear was closest to amp at a show. I think it is probably normal, but it would be even more normal if you were exposed...

Anyone here still playing? I recently decided to learn to play guitar, and I have noise induced tinnitus. I have both an acoustic and electric. I personally think the noise of the acoustic is to loud and doesn't exactly sound good when you play metal on it :) I much rather play unplugged, or...

Can Tinnitus Caused by a Loud Concert Go Away After 4 Months?

My tinnitus was caused by an atreyu concert back in 2007. It hasn't gone away, but it has gotten much better over the years. Now it is just mostly a low pitched drone with a few spikes now and then. It is permanent damage to your hair cells, unfortunately I don't think it will go away if it...

Is It Safe to Attend Concerts with Ear Protection?

Just curious about this. I have noise induced tinnitus since I was 17 from attending a metal concert in the front row for 4 hrs (I didn't realize you could damage your ears at the time) As in a young adult, I really noticed how much I missed music. I have attended two metal concerts (3-4hrs in...
