    Habituation?

@Tom Cnyc I can safely say that I am 100% habituated - I haven't been active on TT for ages but drop back in every now and again to check on research news and such. In fairness, I've just today experienced a new sound in my right ear that I wanted to get some advice on but it doesn't bother me -...

Beep in Ear When Whistling or Hearing Certain Sounds

@glynis How are you? Hope you're okay after your hospitalisation! Glad to hear from you though and thanks for taking the time to reply. I was thinking reactive T but I haven't had a proper spike for ages. Think I'll protect my ears for a bit and see if it diminishes.

Beep in Ear When Whistling or Hearing Certain Sounds

Within the last hour or so I randomly found that whenever I whistle or hear some high pitched sounds, I hear a ringy beep in my right ear. I've completely habituated to my normal T and this new experience hasn't freaked me out, but I would like to get some clarity on what it is and what may be...

The Weirdest Thing Happened... Does Tinnitus Cause Beep Noises?

Hey @amymilly - T can take the form of a beeping sound and from what it sounds like you probably had a quick bout of fleeting tinnitus. It often randomly explodes with a loud beep or ring and then disappates after a few seconds. Try not to let it panic you as it is completely normal, even in...

RL648_81: Synthesis and Evaluation of Potent KCNQ2/3-specific Channel Activators

Very interesting and exciting stuff. I know it's best to exercise caution with news like this but it shows that work is being carried out and progress is slowly being made. Nevertheless, hopefully something awesome comes of this!

Anyone Have Tinnitus Lower in the Morning? Or Any Idea What Might Be Causing This Biologically?

@DebInAustralia Yes quite possibly - although it doesn't work 100% of the time in fairness...buuuut then again more often than not :)

Anyone Have Tinnitus Lower in the Morning? Or Any Idea What Might Be Causing This Biologically?

For me it's weird - sometimes I wake up with blaring tinnitus which diminishes in 10-30 minutes and remains quiet throughout the day. Other times I'll wake up and it'll be very low and non-intrusive but in the same 10-30 minute time frame it will become louder and will be intrusive for the rest...

After 7 Months I Can Honestly Tell You...

@gobolts07 I'm glad that I could be of some help! Really happy to hear that you're well on your way to habituation. Remember it can be a long road, but just keep doing what you're doing and you'll get there! Acceptance is the key :)

Hi All! I Suspect I Have Tinnitus. Little Bit Worried.

Hey @chaosgodloki What kind of gaming headset do you use? I have Turtle Beach XO Seven's and was using them when my Tinnitus was triggered. I played many hours per day with them like you also do - not massively loudly but it was enough to trigger my T I guess. As for the rest of your story...

    It's There But Who Cares?

@Raggs - one of the worst things you can do is force habituation. This only serves to increase your awareness of it! Honestly it will happen more or less without you even noticing, one day you will simply wake up and realise that you just do not care about it anymore! @Mclyra - glad to hear it...

    The Positivity Thread

Hi all, I wrote my personal success story which you can find here: https://www.tinnitustalk.com/threads/its-there-but-who-cares.12246/ It's a little long, but I think it might be helpful to anyone who needs a bit of a pick me up and some hope.

    It's There But Who Cares?

Certainly not me that's for sure. Hi everyone, it's been a while since I've posted on the site - I've mostly been loitering occasionally, keeping track of treatment research but I'm here now to give you all an update nearly a year and a half after my T began. Just a word of warning...LONG...

Can You Habituate to Reactive Tinnitus?

The short answer is yes, BUT it's not always as simple as that. It will vary person to person - I for one have a form of mild reactive tinnitus, in the sense that most days it's at a level which I have no problem with but then other days (for no apparent reason) it will be louder or more...

    Feeling Empty

@Georgia I am amazed that you have such a mature understanding of your situation and therefore I think you will be absolutely fine in the long run. We have all felt as you do at one point or another but the key really is acceptance. Once you stop worrying about T being here to stay, you can...

    Ginkgo Biloba

    Desperate for Help

Hi @Cymro41 How long have you had your T? If you are in the early stages (first few weeks/months) take comfort in the fact that everyone here felt very similar to the way you did. I certainly did, I didn't know how I would ever get back to a 'normal' life. But I have done! Some days my T is so...

@derpytia I can't really add anything that other people haven't said. I just want to say that I feel for you, you do matter and you CAN get back to a normal life. Has There Been a Day Where You Didn't Think About Tinnitus Since You Developed It?

@NiNyu I never actually said I needed to consciously think about T to hear it. I hear it every day, sometimes it's easy to mask and sometimes it's so loud there's nothing I can do to avoid it. The difference between now and a year ago is that I simply don't care about it as much and subsequently...

Has There Been a Day Where You Didn't Think About Tinnitus Since You Developed It?

I think that is the most important point to be made here. One can think about tinnitus day to day, but it becomes less and less of a problem when you do not get stressed, anxious or depressed about it. Difficult to do for sure!

Has There Been a Day Where You Didn't Think About Tinnitus Since You Developed It?

This isn't intended to be a negative post, just curiosity. Does anyone have days where they do NOT think about Tinnitus even once? Since developing it almost a year ago, I can safely say that, although I do not really care about my T anymore, there hasn't been one day where I haven't thought...

The Ups and Downs of Tinnitus. Am I Dealing With It Okay?

@Quentino I don't really know if it is reactive, but some days it is louder (for some unknown reason) and some days it is quiet and easily masked. Vibrating Sound in the Ear

@Tintintin that sucks man, but it's still very early days! Absolutely try not to worry about it as it will only raise your awareness of the sounds/feeling. Vibrating Sound in the Ear

I would take this as an early warning sign and start to protect your ears a bit more. I was the same as you, always listening to music, using headphones and headsets with the sound up loud, over time damage that you won't notice just builds up. Except you have noticed something, it may be...

Well I have general anxiety and I feel as though I have habituated somewhat. The sounds certainly don't bother me too much any more (they are of course frustrating) and there are more good days than bad days now. I know anxiety and depression are not synonymous but whenever my T is bad my...

    LOUD Tinnitus versus MILD Tinnitus

I think on the whole, comparison is pointless as it simply boils down to a person's reaction to their T, whether it's loud or mild. A person with quiet or mild T may be so distressed that they don't realise that it isn't as bad as it could be. Conversely, a person with loud T may feel very...

May Have Discovered the Reason for My Recent Increase?

I know that even if you use earplugs say at a loud bar or club, you can still come away with temporary tinnitus because of the bass vibrations going into your ears/head. Not sure if that answers your question because I don't know if it is damaging your ears, but definitely something to consider.

May Have Discovered the Reason for My Recent Increase?

Well a T spike after a plane journey would probably be normal, but I think your reaction to it probably exacerbated the T. I'm definitely the same in that, when it gets really loud some days, I start despairing and wish that I could just get rid of it. Maybe just try and stop thinking about...
