Cause of Tinnitus
Ototoxicity and probably cumulative noise exposure
I know 9 weeks is a short time and many people have been struggling with this for so much longer, I feel bad for being so weak but I really can't take this anymore ;(

My tinnitus is so loud I hear it no matter what I do... nothing seems to help. Even my own voice hurts my ears. Tinnitus hurts so much.. my ears feel so full all the time, the pressure hurts so much it makes me nauseous and dizzy... having regular and pulsatile tinnitus and hyperacusis at the same time is a living hell. And ear myoclonus... I wish I was deaf.. I know losing my hearing would probably make my tinnitus even louder but...

Went to the ER yesterday because of worsening T and vertigo but they didn't seem concerned, they did nothing... I keep getting vertigo attacks out of nowhere and keep throwing up... The doctors don't know what causes this they just sent me home... Why doesn't anyone help I can't take this :(

And now I have a new annoying sound in my left ear, on top of the loud tinnitus... sounds like some kind of morse code, ugh... What is this :cry:

You are not weak...what you are describing cannot be ignored by most and any amount of intrusive noise inside your head is unacceptable.

Unfortunatelly most so called medical "professionals" are useless at best, or cause more damage in the worse case.
Finding a good one is equivalent to finding a needle in a hay stack.

There is some good info on this board including supplement advice etc.
You are in the right place here.

Don't panic just yet...9 weeks is really not that long for this.

Hi... Welcome...

Please be patient with your T.
Nine weeks are early stage of tinnitus.
I am so sorry that it gets worse so rapidly.
You need to get used to T (habituation process).
Also, please protect your ears well.
Stay away from loud environments.

@Jemina,
See your doctor as sounds like you have a inner ear problem like Labyrinthitus etc.
Medication like Betahistine can help the vertigo or Proclorperazine or Buccastem.

People can't get there lifes back with these horrible conditions without real therapeutics that target the inner ear damage directly. Were living in the dark ages knowing theres nothing that can be done that targets the problem.

@Jemina

You have an acoustic trauma and you possibly have hurt your vestibular system using an ototoxic drug. Your window of opportunity for recovery is 3-6 months, after that it will become much harder for Tinnitus to reduce. You also have severe hyperacusis like I do. Mine own voice hurts my ears, when I urinate, objects clanking, and when other people speak. I used to have mild Tinnitus from Sep-Jan 15, from Jan 16-now my tinnitus increased to severe and I got bad hyperacusis, this was caused by 110db vemp test which was administered for 3 minutes. I lost 25db of my hearing in 3 minute time span. I am still hoping that I recover but I am already in 8 months and that is bad as the window of opportunity wanes away then.

Thanks for the support everyone

Tinnitus is such a horrible condition to have :(

Gonna see another ENT on Thursday...

You also have severe hyperacusis like I do

Yep :(

For the last 3 weeks my ears have been so sensitive... Eating, cooking, showering, everything hurts.. One of the worst things is when people near me chew crunchy food.. Everything sounds so unbearably loud... there's definitely something wrong with my inner ears. ENT doctor are so useless when it comes to tinnitus and hyperacusis...

I have tried protecting my ears, wearing ear plugs and avoiding loud environments. The problem with ear plugs is they make tinnitus so much louder...

@Jemina,
It could be Labyrinthitus, Hydrops, menieres etc, you need a few tests like a MRI ,Balnce tests etc.
Keep to a low salt diet and watch your sugar in take.
Don't suffer as meds can reduce vertigo and motion sickness...

Haven't really avoided salt or sugar, I'll give it a try, thanks for the advice :huganimation:

I have suffered from T for 4 years but got a nasty spike last year. My spike also got louder and louder the first weeks. As I was depressed and stressed out already before my T spiked I didn't think I would be able to stand it either. But my spike began to calm down after 4 months. And now, a year after, it's almost back to my baseline T which is almost unnoticeable unless I sit in very quiet places. I know it's hard, but hang in. There's still hope that it will get better!

Hello Jemina
I too am new to tinnitus, just over a month in. I am glad you found this forum as it gave me the hope and the support I needed from a lot of different people who are united by one element, tinnitus. From what I have read and experienced, the first couple of months are very stressful. You find yourself asking what is this, why me, what is next. As I am new to the world of T. I can only give you insight into the stuff I had to learn right at the start. There are others on this forum who can, and already have such as Glynis or DPDX and others who have shared their knowledge about hearing and tinnitus. Mine can get so loud I hear it over a car engine on the highway, I hear it when I wake up. What gets me through it is the support and wisdom I have received on this forum telling me, after patiently listening to me, as to what was happening to me and what to expect. For me it was that I had some hopeful signs. So far, their advice has been pretty good, and what I needed.

My ENT had faint interest in my case, tinnitus, nothing to do here, goodbye. It was the first time I have ever felt like a piece of meat with a number and my name was next. However, for me and others, I found that my audiologist came through big time. She was the first to check my hearing. I have since purchased moulded ear plugs from her operation, and she is always open to answering some questions. Have you seen one yet?

I also would like you to realize something that I think is very important. YOU ARE NOT WEAK. You are human, and this is a huge and tramatic change to one's life. It comes out of nowhere and leaves you breathless. It is hard to catch your breadth let alone your bearings. You are allowed to be this upset, and it is better that you share how you feel with people who can understand what you are going through. No one should have to, and no one wants to be living in the World of T., as I call it. But here we find each other, and here is where we support each other if not with medical advice, with support, understanding and compassion. We do this because this is what humans need, and you are human. You are not weak, you are human, and everyone on this site is here to support you.

One thing that I have found that has helped me, as I sit here with a very angry right ear (I went past a store and the alarm went off directly into my ear by a customer who just happened to put something near the front, she wasn't even leaving, and yup 10 sec. later up goes my ear - fortuantely it went down in volume, and then back up) is the thought of hope that down the line it will heal. My T. fluctuates, so there is hope. I have read, and if you haven't I would strongly recommend it, the success stories section and thought 'that can be me'. It does give you hope, and you can start to see that it takes time to heal, and that other people were like you, and it got better for them, so to for you. Hope is a good thing, especially as we start down this road. We are both still in early days, so as hard as it is, try not to see all the darkness, but a light down the road.

It is important, and much easier to say than do, learn to focus your attention from the screeming in your ear. Have you tried meditation? I know that seems like an oxymoron, do something that is quiet when this is so loud. But start with small steps, work with someone who knows how to meditate. Meditation is a way to control the focus of your mind, something that is very important right now. It is just something to think about. From what I have learned in a number of cases it does get better, but that is where others can share their greater wisdon on this. As I said I am new myself so I focus on the importance of support and hope at this important entry time to the world of T. as I call it. Coffee Girl, Bill B., Fishbone, Micheal L., Glnyis, Greg among others who have a lot of good ideas, and more experience than I do.

Best of luck, my support and compassion for you is always there for you. I hope this helps.

Got a few hours of sleep, now my T has changed from loud ringing to a very loud hissing.. is fluctuating T good or bad? Still getting the "morse code" sound in my left ear...

Every time I wake up my ears feel full, kinda like if I was underwater. Inner ear problems..?

Still getting the "morse code" sound in my left ear...

I had the "morose code" sound for about a month, then it went a way. I guess the little person in my ear who was SOSing for help finally got rescued. So there is a good chance yours will go away as it's not one of the more common sounds that stay.

ENT was totally useless.

"We can't help you, just learn to live with it, try meditation or something don't focus on your t"..

Easy for them to say they don't have tinnitus and hyperacusis...

I just want my life back :cry::cry:

Way too early 9 weeks is nothing. You need to wait 8 more months.

now my T has changed from loud ringing to a very loud hissing.. is fluctuating T good or bad?
Your news is very encouraging. First of all, a change from a ring to a hiss is Huge, as hissing is easier to bear. Second of all, of course fluctuation is preferable to T being relentlessly at the same level.

Your T ought to continue fading and changing its pitch and intensity in such a way so as to be easier to ignore. You might even get to hear silence again. Note, ears take forever to heal, so this process might take 3-24 months.

Every time I wake up my ears feel full, kinda like if I was underwater. Inner ear problems..?
It is a sign that your ears have been hurt. For the vast majority of people this ear fullness goes away 6-12 months after onset.

You can try taking Meclizine for your vertigo attacks, I was taking Meclizine 25 mg because I was feeling dizzy. You are not weak, your feelings are valid. I also feel weak myself, I have about 5 weeks with tinnitus and I am depressed and I have bad anxiety. Do not give up, keep on striving foward. As time goes by, your mind will soon be accustomed to the sound and it will almost be as if it not there. I am obviously not there yet :( but there are therapy counseling for tinnitus. Also, you can try a neurological examination to see if they can see what is damaged to find a fix perhaps? Or you can ask the doctor to exam you by telling you to clench your jaw, move your neck, arms, etc to hopefully alleviate or lower some symptoms you are having. I am depressed, but let's help give each other hopes ♥️.

Guys, I just realized I made a huge mistake... :cry:

Been trying to figure out why my T is so loud... ototoxicity is what triggered it 9 weeks ago, but... my ears had been ringing constantly for only like, 5-6- days, and I went to the dentist 6 days after the onset of my T.. had a dental filling and it didn't even fit at first.. I was there for at least half an hour! All that drilling... and I have patulous eustachian tubes....!! OH NO!! That sound has gone straight into my ears, really... this is bad!! Now I really lost all my hope! There's no way my ears can recover anymore, they were already irritated, and going to the dentist totally ruined everything! Oh no oh no :cry: Why didn't I remember this earlier...

Don't beat yourself up. It is completely normal to, early on in one's T journey, not worry about the things that healthy people don't worry about.

There is still a reasonable chance that you will be ok. Actually, since you are already hearing a hiss, less than three month after onset, it means that your T is not a relentlessly the same sound, and that's a positive sign.

I know exactly how you feel, as I also began identifying some things I had done following my acoustic trauma that might have made my T worse (e.g., I did Valsalva maneuver multiple times and had a tympanometry test done - there are posts on this forum indicating that those things can make T permanently louder). But one thing one learns after having this condition for a long time is that one needs to wait for months or years to get a sense of just how much damage had been done.

Recall that dental procedures are safe for healthy people, so hopefully the damage (if any) wasn't too great. Many people on this forum had dental procedures done and had no problems afterwards. Of course some people Did get temporary (or even permanent) spikes after seeing a dentist. On this forum, you can find more information about what to do during your future visits to the dentist.
You will want to ask your dentist to drill for at most 5 seconds followed by a 10 second break. If a laser can't be used, find a dentist who uses electric-powered drills (as opposed to the traditional air-powered drills) as they are supposed to be quieter. For more details, check out
https://www.tinnitustalk.com/threads/dentist-laser-vs-ordinary.2791/#post-272983

You will want to get a good sense about how loud and how intense your T is now. Wait another 4 months or so, and then see whether it had faded. Until you verify that it hasn't faded, there is no reason to worry.

Try to not think about your past mistakes. Instead, focus on protecting your ears in the present and in the future.

If you haven't seen it already, check out the post below

@Jemina ,
Tinnitus spikes from a dentist procedure should settle.
It can be caused from the drill but also from having your jaw wide open and the pressure on your jaw joint as it is right by your middle and inner ear.

If you grit or grind your teeth at night it can cause tinnitus and spikes.
Make sure you keep reaching out to us all and your doctor and if have any suicidal thoughts you definitely seek help.
The first few months can be hard and the turmoil of emotions like a rollercoaster but that will get better .
