Hi fellow tinnitus sufferers,

I haven't checked in here for quite a while, but I have some exciting news I want to share with you.

I have very sensitive ears and developed tinnitus ten years ago due to acoustic trauma. Since then, I have adjusted and learned how to protect my ears. This includes wearing earplugs in noisy bars and restaurants, while swimming, and especially avoiding clubs, concerts, or any loud music.

As we all know, most earplugs do not effectively filter out bass, which can still be harmful to our ears. Because of this, I skipped all music events even though I loved dancing, raving, and concerts.

Last night, I tried something new and was amazed that it worked. I was at a loud birthday party and was about to leave because, even with my earplugs, I could feel the bass painfully in my ears.

Then, I decided to soak my earplugs with water before putting them back in. Suddenly, they filtered much more sound, and the volume became completely manageable for me. I felt super happy and ended up dancing for about an hour, still unable to believe my luck.

Even today, the day after, I can confidently say that my ears are neither damaged nor stressed from the music. The water significantly increased the earplugs' filtering capacity. I used Howard Leight Max foam earplugs.

Soak your foam earplugs with water before inserting them to greatly increase their filtering capacity.

I am super excited about this, though it needs more testing. Can you guys try it out and report back?

While it may work for some reason, the added warmth, moisture, and lack of air make me concerned about an increased risk of ear infection. Doing something like this could make things even worse.

That said, it might provide insights for improving earplug design in the future.
