Cause of Tinnitus
Burgler Alarm
Since I suffered a severe acoustic trauma in May 2016 my balance has been affected along with tinnitus and hearing loss.
Is there anything that can be done for balance?? I'm not dizzy but I def have a lot more "sway" than I used too especially when going too sit down.

Honestly I feel like I have suffered a stroke. The ears really do control everything :(

I'm only 37.

Betahistine or Buccastem or Proclorperazine or Cinnarazine can help . ..lots of love glynis

Do you do any gym work? Lifting weights, even just light to moderate work with dumbells and bodyweight you can do in the comfort of your own home, will help you with your balance issues, as well as improving overall health
You will have to put some effort in to it though. Leg work, such as walking or alternating lunges and bodyweight squats will do wonders.

I am at the gym 4 times a week and have been for years. Balance is still off. I think the acoustic trauma was bad enough too destroy hair cells in the vestibular system. Thing is, my hearing seems to have improved but the tinnitus is obviously still a problem. I had hoped the balance issues would be temp but obviously not.

Easy option,
Stand on a cushion and then try with eyes shut and TRY on one leg then other, try walk in straight line etc...lots of love glynis

Hi Glynis,

Yep I have tried that. Just proves my balance is way off though. Tried it over and over for weeks but didnt help. Always same result.

Hey are you sure? Are there ways to see how many haircells have been destroyed?

Unfortunately not as far as I am aware.
My hearing loss isn't even that bad. It's a slight dip at 4K but all within the 20db threshold on a standard test up too 8k
The tinnitus is there but I would say it is mild and if I could get over the depression and self hate etc I would probably be ok but the balance issue is just another thing too deal with.

Anyone else have balance issues after acoustic trauma??

Hi @Jason C, I'm still having balance issues, sway as you put it. It's over a year now for me...have your problems improved?

I have the same, sway like a drunken sailor most of the time, my tinnitus is always soooooo loud it drives me spare, had a balance test and it showed damage to left ear, NHS ENT basically said " it's frustrating " goodbye, absolutely useless, oh but one of them did apologise for another so called doctor prescribing me beta blockers, for what he didn't know me neither, absolutely disgusted with them.

It's a year for me yesterday. Balance issues still there and tinnitus obviously. It's nowhere near as
Loud as it was in the first 6 months. In silence it's like a hissing noise mostly.
Only thing that has improved is my hearing, music sounds normal again and I am not sensitive to loud noise anymore although I am very aware of loud noise I try not to let it bother me.

I'm really pleased to hear that @Jason C, I hope things continue to improve for you. Music for me is not nice anymore, but I try to listen a little at a quiet level. Fingers crossed a miracle happens for us all, or failing that they find a cure soon!
