But people who have suffered an acute acoustic trauma know, at least:
This trauma destroyed my auditory cells.
People for whom the cause is not so clear are in the dark. Notice all kinds of somatic phenomena, observe their jaw (TMJ?), notice pulsatile patterns, and end up wondering if they are still clear in the head at all.
They do not know what to do diagnostically and certainly do not know what makes therapeutic sense.
I find this complete typing in the dark more difficult than a clear, comprehensible cause.
