Cause of Tinnitus
Acoustic trauma (go-kart racing)
Today I was outside for under 30 minutes and there was this lawn mower more than 10 meters away from me. It didn't sound loud but when I got inside I thought "wow it was actually pretty loud."

Now I think my tinnitus spiked. Is it temporary?

I have found that I tend to react more to sounds that come from loud sources (airblowers, sirens, jackhammers, motorcycles, etc.) even when I am far enough away that the volume has been reduced to a reasonable level. I tend to associate those loud machines with something that can cause damage to the ears. Using a decibel meter has helped me to see the reality of the situation.
