- Cause of Tinnitus
- Scuba diving accident
Upon returning to the boat, after a scuba dive in July 2016, I became deaf in my right ear, had vertigo and t. The vertigo is gone, everything else has remained. The first few weeks, I was freaked out! I could not imagine living with these afflictions. Somehow, I was able to habituate to the t, and I bought a bi-cross hearing aid for the deafness. Things were going fine.
Last week, I was receiving a chiropractic treatment for a pinched nerve in my neck. I mentioned to the chiropractor that I had single-sided deafness and t. He said he could 'adjust my ear' and this would help with my t. The adjustment has resulted in an explosion; the t has been magnified from a level 3 to a level 8!
I've spoken with my audiologist and he gave the classic response - I would need to habituate to the new level and to find soothing tones to mask the amplified t. I have not been able to work, and I am up up now at 4:00am typing this because I have not been able to sleep for the past week. OMG, I was getting on with my life after the accident, dealing with the deafness and thought I had found a way to deal with the t. Now,.,.I'm back to feeling dread and feel myself spiraling down in despair. I never imagined it could get worse!
