Hi all
[first post]

The buzzing in my ears started about a month ago. I've had a persistently stiff neck for months now which I stretch several times a day.

On the day the buzzing started my neck hurt a lot (more than usual).

The pain settled down later in the day but the ear kept buzzing.

I can tune out the noise during the day and usually sleep for a few hours before I wake up for whatever reason. When I wake up the buzzing noise is loud and very annoying and it's difficult to get back to sleep.

Not sure if this is a coincidence. My GP says it's Tinnitus.

Has anyone's tinnitus started in similar circumstances?

thx

Welcome to Tinnitus Talk.
Yes neck problems can cause tinnitus.
Have a chat with your doctor to see what he can do for you and ENT to check other posibilities for you....lots of love glynis

Hi DK,

It could, and it's really easy to test. Go see a manual therapist to loosen up your neck :) Did you change anything in bed? Maybe try a different pillow, or try sleeping without a pillow.

Hello,

My T started two months back, and yes I was very stressed at that point of time. My neck and shoulders are sore still and hurt daily, even now.

Yes neck troubles specially trouble with C1 and C2 can cause T. Kevin Hogan (T expert) also says about 1/3 of the T trouble starts with head/neck region.

I am also on a wild goose chase as to how to understand the cause of my T, but my anxeity has kicked in real bad and now I have to solve that first. :) Wonderful, right ? So yes on anxiety meds now....Busriprone 5mg which does not seem to be doing much at the moment. I am having to take Valium to calm myself down at times.

I have already seem 13 specialists in last month and half and gotten lame answers from everybody. Its a shame that in today's medical advancement and bla bla bla, we dont have a cure for this shit.

thanks both for your answers, I've been to a chiropractor and also had accupuncture. Mind you it's just one treatment of each, maybe I need more visits!

Yes one treatment would be tough to tell.....what kind of chiro are you going to...I have been advised multiple times to goto Upper Cervical Chiro....Accupunture...I am not so sure...I went for 3 session and they seem to be treating my anxeity and not T....

Yes it can, some people have had success with muscle relaxants. But it's best to take them before sleep because they can make you drowsy. I think one can get prescription from any doctor.
