I have tinnitus and hyperacusis and noticed after swimming and running my hyperacusis seems to get worse the next day.

When running the traffic seems louder when cars whizz past me and think that has an adverse impact on my ears. I have ran with Alpine earplugs but they seem to be a hollow distortion and secondly do not stay in.

With swimming even when there are not many people the water running seems louder.

Any ideas of earplugs to get? I have small ear canals.

Running with proper earplugs sounds to me like a bad idea due to the occlusion effect.

I have to agree with @Juan. I'm a runner and have tried running with earplugs. Ugh! For me the occlusion effect was terrible. Sometimes easier said than done, but I now try to avoid traffic when I run.
