My tinnitus has become unbearably loud, like a whistle in each ear. A few months ago, I managed to get hold of Prednisolone, and it significantly reduced the volume. However, doctors refuse to prescribe it for me. I have an elevated ESR, but they claim it's not high enough to justify using Prednisolone. It's frustrating.

Interestingly, the Prednisolone didn't just help with the tinnitus; it also improved my vision, which had been deteriorating this year. It even resolved the numbness, tingling, and exhaustion I've been experiencing. Despite these improvements, I'm stuck. I can't continue living with this extremely loud tinnitus.

You'd think doctors might consider prescribing a different type of immunosuppressant, but they won't. Instead, they dismiss my concerns, saying things like, "It must be due to stress." But I wasn't stressed before this started! Now, the tinnitus is causing me immense distress.

What should I do?

Welcome to the forum. I am sorry to hear that you are struggling with your tinnitus.

What caused your tinnitus? Do you have any symptoms of hyperacusis? How long has your tinnitus been present? Have you consulted other doctors about trying prednisone? One of its primary functions is to reduce inflammation. If prednisone is not an option, consider researching natural supplements or foods with anti-inflammatory properties.

In the meantime, try using masking sounds to see if they provide any relief. Take care of yourself, and may your recovery be swift. God bless.

I recommend looking for studies that show a reduction in tinnitus symptoms with Prednisone. Be sure to also review the potential side effects. If your doctors still refuse to prescribe it, even after you share relevant studies, consider seeking a second opinion or finding another doctor.

In my first year or two, I worked with an ENT, a GP, a Psychopharmacologist, and a Neurologist—any of whom could write prescriptions. I did my own research and discovered that Gabapentin, when combined with Klonopin, was helpful in some cases. I discussed this with my Neurologist, who prescribed the Gabapentin with full knowledge of the medications I was already taking.

Now, my GP handles two of my prescriptions, and my ENT manages another. Everything is aboveboard, with all my medications documented in my medical records.

Good luck!
