Cause of Tinnitus
Unknown
She has not been diagnosed by a doctor or specialist, but based on what my mother tells me she is experiencing, I feel tinnitus is the cause. However, she not only hears low frequency noise all the time, but tells me that she actually FEELS it in her body as well. Was just wondering if anybody could possibly shed light on this, if you experience the same thing as well. Thank you.

I've read several posts by people saying they can feel their tinnitus within their head... Some people described it as an electrical storm, others as a soft buzz or as a kind of pressure that they've been feeling since developing tinnitus. However, feeling one's tinnitus doesn't seem to be the norm.

She says that shes feeling it in her chest and head and it's making her life a living hell. Yet I can't convince her that it's not another person doing it to her, and that it's within her body that this is all taking place. She insists it's the neighbors doing it to her maliciously.

Is she living in an apartment or house? If she has direct neighbors who, for example, run an air condition all day, she might feel the vibrations from that. If she means it as in she's been cursed then I'd politely disagree.
Has she been to her GP and an ENT due to her tinnitus?

Apartment. This is the 4th one actually. It's becoming a really big problem but she doesn't want to take my advice and I don't know what to do or even where to start. She always blames the neighbors and won't listen to any other reasoning from me.

No GP or ENT because she won't even admit that that's a possibilty. I don't even know that it's tinnitus, but I'm just looking for a place to start. It sounds like the symptoms are what she's experiencing.

To be honest it sounds like she urgently needs to see a doctor. If she has moved four times already because she thinks neighbors are causing her symptoms then she needs to be assessed by a doctor to make sure her issues aren't of a psychological nature. She might have tinnitus and I've read from other people who feel it in their heads but not in their chests. I've also read from other people whose neighbors low rumbling air conditions drove them crazy but not that they actually caused their tinnitus.

I experience tinnitus--apart from my ears ringing--in a way I've yet to see described on this board. It often feels like it's centered in my throat area, and extends out from there. And I tend to feel it as a vibration as much as a sound. The intensity of it, and location of that intensity varies by the day, and sometimes fluctuates from moment to moment.

At its most intrusive, it wanders (juts around) at very high speed throughout my head and mouth, which sometimes leaves me with a gagging feeling. But it often extends down into my heart, giving me a heavy hearted feeling. It can also go down my upper arms, but more often, extends down to my gut, which leaves me with a nauseous feeling.

Which brings me to the vagus nerve. It extends through all those areas, and I've come to believe is responsible for the gag reflex, heavy heartedness, and nausea I experience. The vagus nerve is also primarily responsible for initiating a parasympathetic, or calming response in the body. It seems most people new to tinnitus seem to struggle mightily with restoring a calm to their systems, which indicates to me possible major vagus nerve involvement.

Whenever I hear of somebody experiencing what might seem like mental or psychological issues, I always think about the health of their vagus nerve first. It not only plays a HUGE part in our physiological makeup, but from my understanding, plays a HUGE part in our emotional makeup as well.

Just wanted to make sure to say that this woman could very well have tinnitus and I'm not doubting her symptoms. The fact that she's convinced the neighbors are causing it and that she has moved four times already made me feel really sorry for her. I just feel like she needs medical help and support.

Yes. 10 of the 12 cranial nerves originate in the brainstem and in some instances they can associate with acoustic neuroma - cranial nerve VIII - a little rare but radiation, Wi Fi, fluorescent, electrical impulses can associate with hypersensitive waves.

I hear tinnitus of course, but in a quiet room I swear I feel it too. I hear mine over the TV, but not the shower type of volume. Quiet rooms are tough, but as the tinnitus starts to roar I can feel a strange pressure growing in my head with it. It's like un-nerving sensation that makes it so hard to rest. Then, once I stand up and move about or go somewhere with noise that perception is gone.

I guess what I mean is sometimes is almost like it's more than just a noise. It's a feeling as well.

It is shitty is what it is. However it's the low loud tones that I feel do this more than anything else. Extremely disturbing. I have found Betahistine and enough sleep or masking with low frequencies do help this (makes the high ringing worse so take your shitty pick).

I feel mine. My brain sizzles along with the static sound. Like feeling the fizz when opening a can of soda. It's unnerving.

I would love to hear how things went with the mother discussed in the original post.

I feel my tinnitus physically quite frequently... it is hard to explain. I have bilateral tinnitus but I experience movement more in my right ear, where my tinnitus and hyperacusis are worse (also my high frequency mild hearing loss and occasional jaw issue are slightly worse there). I attribute it to TTTS but I could be wrong. Sometimes it is like a little feather moving inside my ear; other times it is more of a vibration. If I cup my ears, I can kind of trace the tinnitus sound changing with the vein moving.

I wish I knew what it meant. Sometimes I feel like the feeling part may actually be low frequency tinnitus that I don't perceive very often like the high frequency tinnitus that I hear all the time. Hard to say, I guess feeling it is something that happens to some of us. I agree that it's hard to explain the feeling. It's not pain in my case, but it's disturbing. Effect is it keeps one on edge.

Is it unstable, like sizzling constantly, like a ''bzz bzzzzzzt bzzz'' kinda sound?

It depends what my tinnitus is doing. My tinnitus changes from one day to the next and it changes through the day. When my brain has static is is a continuous buzz sensation. When it is chirping/cricket like it's like you said - bzzz, bzzzzzzzzzzt, bzzz, bzzzzzzzzzzt - like long and short with small intervals and I feel and hear it at the same time.
