Tinnitus Since
2 weeks
Cause of Tinnitus
Noise induced
Hello, I'm 38yrs old male living in US. Had a strange feeling about a month ago when I was working alone in my home office in the afternoon - something like a cricket sound. I felt weird but ignored it and continued to work. But after a week i was watching a movie at home with my wife and this cricket sound along with static sound of a radio increased in intensity. I suddenly felt that something is going wrong. I usually go to acupuncture treatments for my back pain and read something there about "ringing in the ears". I doubted I got this new problem to deal with.

I love to sing on smule with my headphones at high volume and thinking that Tinnitus is because of high volume. I have an appointment with ENT in the next two days to see if I have a hearing loss.

But this is driving me crazy thinking about this. Also giving me headache and initially gave me suicidal thoughts.
But found this forum and continued reading the success stories which gave me some relief.

I have a very good successful life and a good family. This is a horrible feeling of constant ringing in the head. But I will fight this head on and see where it takes me.

This is what I'm trying.
Acupuncture - 2 treatments already, not much change. But doctor assured it can get better with 6 treatments. Will keep you all posted on the outcome.

Trying Ayurveda - sesame oil heated to body temperature. Massage it on head and under feet. Also soak garlic in sesame oil and put ten drops of it in ears for 15 mins and drain the oil from ears. Tilt sideways when oil is in your ears. I felt this helped with ringing a little bit. We have to do this for 10 days. Will also keep you posted. And of course resting my ears as much as I can. No headphones, no loud sounds etc.,

I dowanloaded an app tinnitusawareness on AppStore. It's like white noise that masks the T. This also helps a little bit, but I want to give my brain maximum time to accustom to T and ignore it eventually. So I just don't mask it, fighting it head on. Let the brain suffer and give us peace ultimately.

I was speaking to my mother-in-law, she also got T from fluid in the ears. But an ENT cured her in India with some medication. This is what she told me yesterday. She is doing fine now.

So guys, I am still fighting, I can hear it while I'm writing this. I will keep you posted on the results on everything I'm doing.

Wish you all luck and hang in there friends.

@Madhan ,
Welcome to Tinnitus Talk.
Please let us know how you get on.
Keep relaxing music on when you need a break from your sound help you relax and hope your sleeping ok.
Love glynis

@glynis

Thank you, Glynis. I am sleeping ok but not like before. If I wake up in the middle of the night, I can never sleep again. But 6/7 hrs sleep a day as of now. I will take your suggestion on listening to music. Thanks for the advice.

@Madhan The first few months can be rough.. hopefully it will go away for you. In any event, do not attempt to fight it head on. Give it time, but ultimately your nervous system will learn to accommodate the sound and it will become a non-issue as time goes on. Good luck!

@MikeL1972 Thank you for the suggestion Mike. I was just deceiving myself saying that I will fight head on. I cannot. This is driving me crazy.

I went to my third acupuncture appointment today. Acupuncturist is also an expert in oriental medicine. As per oriental medicine, strengthening the kidney system can relieve the Tinnitus, seems like. So he gave a bag of herbal tonics (pouches), to take twice a day orally. I took one in the afternoon, my first dose. I also visited my ENT today the first time. He confirmed this is noise induced and no cure as of now. My audio gram showed that there is dip in hearing at 6000hz and went up at 8000hz. This only happens when it is noise induced hearing loss :-(
But luckily the lost hearing is still in the normal 20db range.

I just finished my running and feeling little better with the static sound, coming and going but no crickets. But what I felt is that hissing is too much in the morning and by evening it fades a little bit (Strange)

@Madhan my hearing loss seems about like you described yours. I didn't get a negative "no known cure" from my ENT but more of let's see what develops.

I'm near a week short of two months now and I've been through all kinds of sounds - mainly high pitch (which was variable and sometimes meandering), buzzy bees (high-pitched), and static. I think its safe to say that the days had a lot of variation.

Good luck and let us know how any of your treatments work out.

@PortalNaut throw everything you got at it. I am sorry to hear that you are hearing those high pitched noises. Hope you will feel well very soon. Be active like running or walking if you can.

I believe drumming technique is also helping a little bit. Try it for yourself. But start slowly, 20 times at a time and increase if required.

@Madhan thanks. And may you also find relief. While we cope, adjust, and heal, the mental aspect is very important to keep up. And keep stress down, hard to do at times. Serenity NOW! (haha).

I tried the drumming and found some relief here and there, but haven't actually done it in the last month. Will give it a go again.
