Flonase Seems to Reduce My Low End Warble Tinnitus Tone

Cause of Tinnitus
Noise
I have noise induced tinnitus. Mostly a high pitch hiss. But it started as a terribly loud low end warble in my left ear.

Prednisone helped a lot. Once I tapered off it, the low end subwoofer warble came back though.

Last night I used Flonase and for several minutes the low end warble was gone.

This morning I took a hot shower, breathed steam in boiling water, and took more Flonase. It's not entirely gone, but I think I've made progress with that part.

My ear feels full and heavy.

There could be something to this.

Guys I wanted to update you all.

My acoustic trauma was about a month ago, and my tinnitus start was about 2.5 weeks ago. It started with a low loud warble in my left ear, which during my 2 weeks of Prednisone raised in pitch to around 15,000 Hz. Following wrapping up the Prednisone, the low end warble came back, although lower volume, along with ear fullness.

As it turns out, taking 500 mg of magnesium citrate daily and up to two doses of Benadryl every night to sleep dehydrated me severely. That combined with the Prednisone really put me off edge emotionally and physically I was completely weak. I lost around 10-15 lbs.

2 days after the Prednisone course, I got my appetite back. I began eating, and more importantly drinking a lot of water. I've stopped the Magnesium and Benadryl, although I have started a generic Flonase which has seemed to help open my left ear.

The low end warbling has stopped. I have one very low volume ring around 963 Hz, and mostly, a hiss.

The hiss sounds exactly like the sound when you swallow a carbonated beverage, or an ice, although it's constant.

Please be aware how important it is to stay hydrated. I didn't realize how bad I was until I saw the skin on my hand looked scaley and I could pinch it and it would go down very slowly (a sign of dehydration).

I was able to attend a wedding (although I sat outside to avoid the loud music as best I could), and the hotel had a noisy AC system which actually allowed me to sleep better than I had in weeks.

These are positive changes and I'm still on the emotional rollercoaster but I feel a deep relief that the low end subwoofer warbling has subsided.

Thanks all.

Yeah woo wee. It is imperative that you keep protecting your ears as much as humanly possible. Please please please don't go to any clubs, concerts, movies, bowling, headphones, etc. for a few months, and keep a spare set of earplugs handy just in case you do find yourself in a noisy environment. I'm happy for your improvement and you may have dodged a major bullet but you're still not out of the woods. Trust me.

Also, maybe consider looking into some supplements that have otoprotective properties and load up on them.

I'd like to hear people's thoughts on the most troubling part of my tinnitus, the low end warbling. It basically sounds like somebody playing rap with a subwoofer in a distant car passing by.

When it first started 2.5 weeks ago, it was super loud in my left ear. Devastating. My tinnitus is due to acoustic trauma of hammering metal and a nail gun. Audio test shows mild hearing loss of 35 dB in 6k range.

After about 3 days of Prednisone, that went away and turned into a high pitch, which elevated and elevated all the way to 15,000 Hz and now is mostly a hiss, however, the low end warble came back, although much quieter once I tapered off Prednisone.

Last weekend I had to attend a wedding. I sat outside, avoided the DJ and noise like the plague. That went fine. I slept well in the hotel, as the wall AC unit was a great noise maker which masked almost everything but my hiss.

The next day the drive was long, 5 hours. Drank lots of water, kept the radio low, and the AC high. The road noise and ac fan were good distractions.

When I got home, I went upstairs into the bedroom and laid down, and listened. I listened carefully. The low end was gone. I cried like a baby. Tears of joy.

That was Sunday. Monday it mostly stayed gone. Unfortunately Monday evening I began to hear it again. Although faintly.

Tuesday I had to work, way out in the country. Again I used the road noise and AC fan to my advantage. When I got out there I shut off my truck and listened. Sure enough it was there. At one point a car with a subwoofer playing rap did pass by. It nailed the frequency and I felt joy that it was a real thing passing by, fading into the distance, only to hear "it" still.

Here's what I notice about it in the most recent form. The volume of it is faint. What's somewhat new, its also triggered by things that make noise in similar frequencies, as if I'm hyper aware of that sound.

When the AC unit cycles on at my house or my in-laws, I hear it. There's a moment of relief when they cycle off and it stops momentarily, and then continues quietly.

I also notice I can hear it in jets passing by, trucks passing by, etc. It's triggered by them and when they leave it almost stops, only to warble quietly.

Interestingly, when I pee, it makes the low end sound, and when I stop, again it stops momentarily, or at least to a lesser degree.

So this time around its beginning to coincide with real sounds, even though they themselves are very low/safe volume.

I'm 2.5 weeks in, so I'm hoping this aspect goes away. The hiss is the least of my worries, which is constant. If anything, that part gets a little louder during everyday noise, and returns to a lesser volume when in silence long enough.

Shouldn't you be happy that it's faint? Also I would rather have low end warble than high pitched ringing.

It's in fact both low and high. Having experienced both, trust me, you don't want low end warble.

The worst part about it is that

a.) It's hard to mask, and

b.) It constantly sounds like something is going on outside your house. You never know if it's real or in your head.

I've had 4 great days of tinnitus in a row while taking Flonase which is uncommon.

The root of my tinnitus is from my neck and jaw which led to tinnitus instantly...

Why is Flonase helping me? Hopefully I keep having great tinnitus days from Flonase although I know I can't take it forever.

@Greg Sacramento, please read my above post about Flonase?

Now that I think about it I had a bad cold a few weeks before my tinnitus started although the root cause is my neck/jaw... Can I do Flonase forever? Should I stop the Flonase for awhile after a few months of use because maybe the Flonase fixed my ETD?

I can still hear my tinnitus, but it's very low and almost inaudible. I haven't had 4 very low days of tinnitus forever and this year not at all when my neck slid out of place some when leaning over the sink.
