My brain seriously needs to be investigated. The ENT, neurologist, audiologist, and primary doctor are all at a loss for how nothing except the flu seems to affect my tinnitus.
I have had three bouts of COVID, and none of them caused any tinnitus spikes or made my tinnitus worse in any way.
I have had sinus infections and upper respiratory infections, and again, there were no tinnitus spikes or worsening symptoms.
Even just a common cold did not affect my tinnitus. No change at all.
But then I had a mild case of the flu, and my tinnitus actually went away. There were no spikes and nothing got worse during the three days I had a fever, cough, body aches, and chills. Then, once all the flu symptoms cleared up and I became congested, the tinnitus returned with full intensity.
I get moments where it sounds like air is escaping, and then it shifts into a high-pitched fleeting tinnitus that becomes reactive to sound. I truly have no idea why only the flu made it worse. COVID did not, sinus infections did not, respiratory infections did not, and even a cold had no effect.
Does the flu cause some kind of inflammation? Is that what is going on? And if so, does it just take time for the body to fully recover from the flu?
